The Devil Doctor's Spicy Love -
Chapter 218: Cowardice
Chapter 218: Cowardice
Dr. Shi stepped out of the conference room and immediately, his phone rang. He arched his brow at the incoming number. He walked a little further and picked it up.
"Yes, Boss."
"I am not your Boss anymore."
"That hurts a lot, Boss. I thought you finally decided to revive She."
Yang Bingqing coughed on the other side. "Those days are over."
He smiled. "Yeah. Those days are really over, aren’t they?"
"How was the conference?"
"Your son is a piece of work, do you know that?"
She released a long sigh from another end. "As always he caused trouble, didn’t he?"
"I mean only if he knew to please people a little, things would be very easy."
She smirked. "The Yangs would never please people."
His brow twitched.
"So is my son still a doctor or not?"
"He is still a doctor thanks to me."
"I owe you one."
He chuckled. "We are too old for debts now. Anyway, I got the message from your right hand man."
"Did the left hand man find anything?"
"Nope. These people are being very cautious," he leaned his arm against the wall and sighed. "This is really messed up. We didn’t work with messed up people."
"Yet only one of us is the reason behind this."
He gasped. "I am hurt to know that you think of us as monsters!"
She rolled her eyes.
"But on a serious note, it is possible that it is not one of us, but perhaps somebody got the bright idea of reviving She because one of us accidentally mentioned us to somebody."
"Who in my gang was that foolish?"
"You know about Chao’s drinking habits. He could get very passionate and talk for hours and hours. Maybe during one of the nights lying wasted in a bar, he might have casually mentioned about us to someone? That someone took his babbling a little too seriously."
Yang Bingqing said, "Chao was surely an irresponsible drunkard but he would never babble us out. That was my ironclad rule and he for sure knew it very well lest I feed him to the sharks myself."
Dr. Shi laughed. "Have you heard of old age? It’s what we are going through right now."
"You are going through old age. I am still very much young!"
"My point is Boss that he is lonely and old. He never got married. Perhaps in a state of emotional turmoil, he might have done it. I am not saying he did. I am just stating a possibility."
"You are also single and old."
"By choice," he corrected her. "There is a difference."
"Well then have you tested out your theory?"
"I did drop him a message but I haven’t heard from him yet."
She sighed. "Ah how my fingers are twitching with violence...Only if I get somebody’s head to play with~ Anyway, keep me posted."
"Yup. How is your life going with your husband?"
"Very well! He cooked spaghetti for me today. It was so delicious~ He even-"
"Dogfood. I shouldn’t have asked," he sneered and hung up.
Dr. Shi turned and noticed Mingshen walking towards him.
"Dr. Yang."
"Why did you help me?" Mingshen came straight to the point.
"Ah. I am sorry. I didn’t know that you preferred losing your medical license," he smiled. "My bad for helping a doctor whose guts I already hate the most."
"Then why did you help?" Mingshen sneered.
His eyes narrowed. "Let’s say...I hate you but I cannot hate you at the same time as well," he inwardly sighed thinking of Yang Bingqing.
"What kind of logic is that?"
"Not all things are meant to be understood, son. My only advice to you is to advise caution. You are walking on a dangerous path and you better stay out of it. You are lucky you escaped a terrible outcome today. But luck also runs out one day. Just remember that."
Dr. Shi said nothing more and left.
—
Mingshen walked out of the Medical Association’s building, still pondering over Dr. Shi’s words when he recognized a familiar silhouette standing under a tree.
His eyes shone golden like the sun and he dashed towards that spot with full speed.
"Spicyyyyyyyyyy you missed meeeeeeee!!"
Before Jia could even react, she was already enveloped in a strong, firm embrace that would have otherwise broken somebody’s bones. But her fit body could take that pressure.
She stared at the blank space ahead of her.
Huh...?
"Ah the world will finally not be so boring," he sniffled.
"Yang Mingshen! What are you doing?"
"Welcoming you~"
"I don’t need such a touchy welcome," she frowned. "Aren’t you just taking advantage?"
He pouted. "Are you not happy seeing me?"
She pushed his chest away and glared at him. But looking at the Medical Association’s building behind him, her gaze slightly softened. Thinking of Ehuang, she worriedly asked, "What happened there?"
Mingshen chuckled. "It was fine. I am too important of a person for the association to let go of me."
Her brow twitched heavily.
Just when I feel a little bad for him...
She folded her arms and scrutinized him. "They really let you go just like that?"
"Like I said-"
"Who helped you?"
"I am myself enough-"
"Seriously, who spoke for you?"
"...There was one doctor who mumbled something here and there but it was nothing-"
"Be grateful to him."
His brow twitched. "You think I am not capable-"
"Just be grateful to him," she reiterated.
He looked away, scoffing.
Jia stared at him for a moment and said earnestly, "Thank you Mingshen."
He looked back at her, blinking.
She clasped her hands together and continued. "You really were admirable to take such a huge risk with your career for a young girl’s sake. I...feel a little pathetic of myself because I think that I couldn’t have done that. Without the parents’ consent, without the court’s order or at least some form of legality, I wouldn’t have been able to go against the law even if it was for her happy future."
Her lips curved into an awkward smile and she scratched her head. "In a way, I failed Ehuang because of my cowardice, didn’t I?"
He stared at her.
She then quickly waved her hand and said, "J-just forget about the last part. Let’s go. Huojin and I have a lot to talk about with you."
She turned to leave when Mingshen held her wrist and pulled her back.
"Wait."
