Chapter 217: The Medical Association

"Dr. Yang. What do you have to say?"

Mingshen arched his brow at one of the senior doctors before him, Dr. Duan. He was one of the most renowned neurosurgeons in China and held quite some authority in the Medical Association where Mingshen was right now.

"I can see your veins popping on your forehead, Dr. Duan. Have you taken your blood pressure pills?"

The air fell grim and silent.

"Dr. Yang, we are gathered here for a very serious matter."

He yawned. "Good."

"You do realize that you are the subject of that discussion, right?"

"I am always the main star of any discussion," he smiled.

"I am afraid it’s not in a positive light."

"Positive doesn’t suit me anyway."

Dr. Luo gritted his teeth. "You unethically operated on a teenager kid! Do you know how bad of a reputation that will cause our profession?"

"No clue," he acted ignorant.

"This is not the time to be sarcastic, Dr. Yang. She could have died."

"In my operation theater? Not a chance," he sneered.

Dr. Su, a cardiac surgeon, objected. "Overconfidence will not get you anywhere. You seem to be very proud."

"The last time I checked, you were not so shy in boasting about your successful heart surgery’s achievement that you performed on that rich industrialist...what is his name? Don’t remember," he shrugged.

"Mr. Huo insisted on making it a big deal!"

"Yeah, yeah, whatever. We all know how much of it was his insistence or yours~" he waved his hands in dismissal.

"You..."

Dr. Duan breathed in. "Dr. Yang. We have to do something about it. This cannot be tolerated, especially not by the Yang family. You are the one who tethers the medical world together and if you are allowed to run freely like this-"

"Then?" Mingshen’s eyes narrowed. "What are you proposing?"

"You are not doing a very good job in protecting your license," Dr. Luo glared at him.

"I let my work do the talk~"

The association erupted into a big uproar and there were back and forth heated clashes between Mingshen and the other doctors.

"This cannot be done! You don’t have an ounce of realization of your mistake. People’s faith in the doctors can be shaken with this incident!"

Mingshen smiled. "I don’t understand. Did you not hear the good news? The cop who urged me to do this surgery is out free. The judge closed the case. See? He was so practical and understanding. This makes me wonder why there can be no practical and understanding people here? It’s not like I did it on my own. I had Ehuang’s consent."

"She is underage."

"But old enough to understand her sexual needs and desires."

Dr. Su said, "Dr. Yang, please understand that this sets a bad example for other patients. She got too emotional and it is understandable at her age, but we are adults."

"Does anybody here really think that I would have gone ahead with the surgery if there was a threat to her life or if the cons outweighed the pros?"

There was a beat of silence.

"You just got more into the limelight," Dr. Duan scoffed.

"My charisma is enough for me to stand in the limelight. I don’t need to use any faulty methods to be popular. Please think a little before you speak."

Dr. Luo lashed out. "This is enough! No matter what judgment Song Jia got, you won’t be spared so easily. The Medical Association has its own set of rules and ethics."

He laughed with a tinge of danger. "Where were the ethics when your dear nephew almost took a woman’s life because he was operating on her drunk?"

He froze.

"Forget about losing his license, there wasn’t even a case of malpractice lodged against him." He smiled. "Where were the rules then?"

"He wasn’t drunk! Those were all lies that a jealous doctor tarnished him with!"

"Your nephew’s track record is not bright for anybody to get jealous of so get off your high horse."

"You-"

"Then I also wonder as to why are you so passionately driving this discussion?"

He scowled. "Somebody has to."

Mingshen’s eyes squinted. "How is Huo Tengqi?"

"...Excuse me?"

"Haven’t you been the Huo’s family doctor for years ever since Dad rejected treating his brother?"

"What are you getting at?"

"I had a not so fun pleasure of meeting him in Tianjin. Aish, as salty as always."

"So?"

"I feel like if I place myself in his shoes, then I would definitely grab this golden chance that is presented to me with a cute ribbon tied to it," he chuckled.

His gaze darkened. "You are just bringing a completely unrelated person into this matter!"

"I wonder how really unrelated he is."

"That is-"

"Enough already."

A new voice echoed from the end of the table. Dr. Shi, a reputed gynecologist, looked at Mingshen. Seeing his calm expression, he sighed. He faced the other doctors in the conference room and said, "Everybody knows how Dr. Yang is so let’s not get unnecessarily provoked. The bottom line is the girl is safe."

"How can you take this so lightly Dr. Shi!? We demand the revoke of Dr. Yang’s medical license!" His response was met with vehement criticism.

"I have taken this matter as seriously as you all. I feel what he did was right. Who would understand it better than a doctor in my profession? You haven’t seen my patients’ eyes who are struggling with sexual and fertility problems and how devastating and crippling their life becomes. I am not being biased. But if there was a sliver of chance that the girl could be helped, then I am all for it. Isn’t seeing a patient healthy and happy our aim anyway?"

Mingshen raised his brow, amused. It wasn’t the support he had expected to get.

Dr. Shi released another sigh. "So how about we end this topic here? Song Jia is released and if the judge has closed her case, then it gives us a good reason as well to ponder over it. And it wasn’t like Dr. Yang didn’t try getting her parents’ consent. They didn’t give it. Now we really don’t know how innocent they are so should we count their refusal of giving consent as care for their daughter or something else?"

Silence.

"By the rulebook, Dr. Yang might have made a mistake but by humanity, he didn’t. He is too talented to be stopping practice at this time. So let’s all go home, shall we?"
