"You cannot be serious," Jia quietly growled like a ferocious tigress on her hunt. "Ehuang will be able to live a normal life and you want to snatch that possibility too from her?"

Mr. Yu glared. "She is already living a normal life! You are the one making it sound abnormal."

"That’s it. We will take Ehuang back home," Mrs. Yu shot back.

Huojin said, "Like Inspector Jia said, your next destination is the jail, not home. But as a last act of kindness for your daughter, give your consent for this surgery-"

"No. There is no way we approve of this!"

Jia took a deep breath and said, "I will call you back, Mingshen."

She hung up and Mr. Yu said, "You cannot force us, okay? Otherwise, we will sue you!"

Huojin was also losing his patience with them. If he wasn’t bound by the law, then he would have taken them to a corner and made them understand through his fists.

Jia asked Xiyang to take them into custody and stepped outside with Huojin.

"Let’s talk to Sir Tang," Jia wasted no time. "There has to be some way out of this."

Tang Haitao was in a predicament too, but he had a solution. "I am afraid the only way that remains is to take this matter to court. The judge can overturn her parents’ consent if they are convinced with the arguments, which I believe they will be. It can be a long process. You know how courts work but we will definitely win."

Huojin agreed. "I think this is the best option."

Jia also found a source of light in the hazy path. "Okay. Let’s do this then."

"There is a problem," a dark voice said through the phone.

"What problem?"

"Yu Ehuang’s parents came to me tonight with their predicament."

"Who is Yu Ehuang?"

"One of ours."

"Ah, I see. Why did they come?"

"Her daughter got caught with a boy. She was dating him."

"Ah, that’s regretful," the second voice said with lament. "I believe her parents would have done the right thing."

"They did discipline her but came to me if still something more can be done. According to them, the boy has completely brainwashed her. I attended to their queries and they went away. But here is where the problem starts. I heard the cops caught them."

"How is that possible? Their daughter must be at home, repenting her actions. She wouldn’t have called the cops."

"No, she didn’t. When I dug in, I came to know that the boyfriend reached her home in the middle of the night and took her away on his bicycle. But she is not in any of the hospitals I checked."

"Then why are the parents at the bureau?"

"Because I believe she is in Yang Mingshen’s private lab."

Silence.

"The cop Song Jia and Yang Mingshen were at the high school yesterday to resolve the fight between the boyfriend and the gang. I strongly believe that the kid took her there and through Yang Mingshen, Song Jia got involved."

After a long pause, the second voice, "How far ahead do you think they know?"

"Of course, they have no clue. Not yet. They stumbled upon this case by accident. But I doubt that Song Jia dragged the parents in only because of the disciplining part."

"The kid told them about the surgeries?"

"There is a great possibility."

The air was filled with finger tapping sound for a few moments as the second voice contemplated.

"This is a problem."

"Very big problem. More so because Yang Mingshen is directly involved. If it had been another doctor, we could have handled him but not Yang Mingshen. That devil cannot be handled."

"Do you think he will look for ways to undo the surgeries? I mean, that is pretty impossible but as you say, Yang Mingshen is very unpredictable."

The first voice said slowly, "He is not the one to give up for sure. The Yang family controls the medical world for a reason. But if he finds a way, he will need her parents’ consent. Yu Ehuang is below eighteen."

"Well at least something is in our favor."

"Not if they take the matters to court. The court judge can overturn the consent if they find the arguments convincing in the daughter’s favor."

"If the judge finds it convincing. That’s a big variable right there," there was a sense of smile in the second voice.

"Will that be possible?"

"No doubt about it."

Mingshen stared at Jia with folded arms and eyes narrowed. "How sure are you with this overturning thing?"

Jia blinked. "A hundred percent. Once the court knows what happened with Ehuang, the judgment will definitely be in her favor. It’s outright cruel and criminal what they did."

"We understand that but I doubt if your court will understand it."

Her gaze darkened. "You are seriously doubting the law here? This is an open and shut case as far as I see."

"Again, that’s what you see. I highly doubt the functioning of the court’s eyes."

She grimaced. "There is no point in arguing with you in law’s defense because you have clearly made up your mind against it. You can see the judgment for yourself when it will be out."

"And what if it is not in her favor?"

"That’s impossible."

"You should always have a contingency plan, Spicy," Mingshen smiled.

"There is no need because this case is as crystal clear as it gets. Ehuang has suffered a lot and the court will never turn a blind eye to it."

"That is if the eyes are not blind in the first place."

Jia fumed. "It’s hopeless talking with you! Where are people supposed to go if not the courts?"

He chuckled meaningfully. "Underworld is a good place. The Mafia King’s code of law never fails anybody."

Her brow twitched.

"And this case will prove to you that so does the police law’s"

"I see," he arched his brow. "In that case, I will wait."
