It took some few days for Ehuang’s case to turn up at the court but when it finally did, her parents were brought into the court by Xiyang, who ordered them to walk forward.

Jia was sitting on one of the front benches and the parents immediately glared at her as if they faced grave injustice. Mrs. Yu’s face even looked haggard and tired.

Other people, who were present at the court to watch the proceedings, hushed in whispers as they saw Mingshen coming in. His hands were in his pockets as he was casually taking a look at the court.

"Hmm, I thought so. The court’s air doesn’t suit me. It feels nasty breathing in here."

Bojing, who accompanied him, gasped in terror. He whispered urgently. "Boss! W-We are in the court. Don’t say th-things that will o-offend anybody here," he cried.

"And since when do I care about offending anybody?"

They sat on the very last bench at the corner. Jia looked back because of the whispers and glanced at him.

The whispers stopped when the court judge stepped in and ordered silence. After the customary proceedings, the judge asked the prosecutor to put forth Yu Ehuang’s case.

The prosecutor did exactly as he had prepared the case. He narrated the entire incident that started from Yu Ehuang calling the cops to her high school to the stormy night when Jin brought her in all beaten up and bruised.

Everybody was horrified and a wave of sympathy arose for Ehuang who had to live with such horrible parents. They threw nasty glares towards Mr. Yu and Mrs. Yu.

"Honorable Judge, what Miss. Yu’s parents did to their daughter is utterly barbaric. For once, even an enemy wouldn’t go so far as her parents did. They did this because of their false beliefs and extreme conservativeness towards love and sexuality. Miss. Yu has every right to live a normal sex life, but they refuse to give their consent for the surgeries that would make her recover. That’s why, the defense asks for justice for this young girl who has already suffered through a lot of pain."

The judge nodded and took notes after which he ordered the defense to come forward.

"Honorable Judge, the prosecutor is completely painting Miss. Yu’s parents like some sort of horrible monsters. They are her parents and naturally, they will always have her best interests in their minds. In fact, the truth behind the surgeries is far different than what the defense is claiming here to be. I would request you to kindly allow Mr. Yu Long and Mrs. Yu Guanyu to appear in the witness box."

"Allowed."

Mr. Yu took his wife’s hands who was wiping her tear-stained eyes as she walked towards the witness box.

"Nice acting," Huojin murmured in disdain.

"It’s not going to last for long," Jia expressed the same disgust.

The defense lawyer stepped near the box and asked, "Please tell the Honourable Judge what the truth is, Mr. Yu."

Mr. Yu nodded and pleadingly looked at the judge. "There is a horrible conspiracy going on, Honorable Judge! It’s all to make Ehuang hate us. We were against her relationship with Xiong Jin, not because of any beliefs but because we thought that he isn’t good enough for our daughter. He is not a bright student in school and even gets into fights so on top of that he is violent too. Which parents will agree to such a relationship?"

The defense nodded. "There is a history of violence, Honorable Judge. When I dug into his middle school records, Xiong Jin had indeed gotten into a lot of fights and clashes. A troublemaker. He skipped classes, did low on tests and got into altercations."

"I see. Please continue, Mr. Yu."

Mr. Yu nodded. "So you would understand why we would be against this relationship, right?"

"But the prosecutor says that you say otherwise."

"It’s all false, Honorable Judge! The police officer here coerced us into admitting such nonsense things!"

Jia’s gaze darkened.

Mrs. Yu burst into tears. "Yes, we felt so cornered when she dragged us to the bureau. She was so angry and kept blaming us for hitting Ehuang. Yes, we were surely scolded her for stubbornly wanting to be with Xiong Jin, but we never hit her! Ehuang had stepped out at night because she forgot to buy some school stuff. But she never returned and we left home urgently to find her. The next news that we come to know that is Ehuang is in Dr. Yang’s lab where Xiong Jin took her."

Mr. Yu said, "You saw the proof how violent Xiong Jin is, right? It must have been him who beat up my poor daughter and then himself took her to Dr. Yang as if he was innocent! They must have definitely fought and he hit beat her up and then threatened her to not expose him."

"That’s preposterous, Honorable Judge!" The prosecutor lawyer stood up. "They are completely spinning up stories and putting blame on Xiong Jin. If needed, we can have Miss. Yu’s testimony as to who really physically assaulted her."

"Of course, she won’t expose him because he completely has her in his control! My Ehuang is too naive and innocent..."

The judge raised his palm. "You will get your chance to cross question. For now, please proceed Mr. Yu."

"Thank you, Honorable Judge. As if it wasn’t enough that they blame us for hitting Ehuang but also questioning the surgeries. We already explained this to Ehuang multiple times that she got into a terrible accident in the past that severely injured her lower body, especially...t-that area. We had no choice but to agree to the doctor’s guidance for those surgeries because it was that bad."

"Whatever we said in the bureau was all false because this cop was hell bent on making us the bad people! We were coerced into it! It’s definitely that boy’s doing because he knows we are against this relationship! So he is using every chance to humiliate us!"
