The girl still had her head lowered in response to his question. She couldn’t speak up as if something was blocking her throat.

Mingshen raised his brow. "Am I that terrifying?"

She vigorously shook her head. "...No," she meekly replied.

"That’s good to hear or else you saw that female cop inside, right? She would have chewed me alive thinking that I bullied you or something," he smiled. "What’s your name?"

The lines on her forehead tightened and she lost some color in her expression.

Mingshen thought back and guessed. "You didn’t want to risk the teachers guessing your relationship with that boy?"

Mingshen immediately felt the change in her demeanor. She reflected the same dread as he saw in Jin’s eyes but it was far much worse as if her head was put on the guillotine.

"Are you afraid that the news of your relationship will reach your parents’ ears?"

Her trembling body was her answer. The skyrocketing stress was clearly visible on her face.

"Calm down," he made her sit on a nearby bench and brought her a glass of water. "Will it be that bad if your parents found out? The most they would do is scold you. That’s what parents know to do anyway. Speaking from personal experience."

His tactics to reassure her were failing as she was sinking further and further in despair.

"If you want, Spicy - I mean that female cop can be with you and talk to your parents. They will better understand then," he smiled dangerously. "People generally fear authority."

Just then Jia stepped out to take a call and when she was about to return, her gaze fell on Ehuang and Mingshen at the side.

Mingshen gave a short gist and said, "Guess she will be more assured if you talk some sense into her parents for not going too far with the scolding part."

"Of course, I will be here. We all will be here, okay?" Jia sat beside Ehuang and held her hands firmly. "You don’t have to be so afraid, dear. Liking somebody is not a bad thing and you don’t have to feel guilty about it. It’s common at your age. Don’t worry. I will talk to your parents and tell them not to be harsh with you."

Ehuang tried to catch onto the confidence in Jia’s warm gaze. "R-Really?"

"Yes. Count on me," she smiled and patted her head.

Eventually everybody’s parents were called and there was chaos for a long time as the parents of the five boys continuously blamed Jin for beating their child. Jin’s parents stood in his defense in return and the argument went on for a while until Jia had no choice but to intervene. The situation calmed down and in the end, Jin and the five boys apologized to each other to escape from more wrath.

The only matter that remained at hand was about Jin and Ehuang’s relationship. Only Jin and his parents and Ehuang and her parents were present in the principal’s office. Naturally, he objected to their relationship and gently tried to make them understand that it was against the school rules.

"Mr. Yu and Mrs. Yu. I know you might not feel comfortable with what you have learned, but I hope you get to hear your daughter’s side too," Jia came forward. Xiyang chirped as they headed out. "All’s well that ends well."

Bojing beamed too. "It was n-nice to see the parents so understanding..."

"In the end, all parents love their children," Jia smiled.

A roar of thunder suddenly broke through the grey sky and a strong gust of winds blew past them.

"We should head back soon. It’s going to rain heavily," Shilin commented.

Mingshen looked up at the dark, scattering clouds and murmured. "And it feels very ominous for some reason."
