Chapter 187: Brawl turned into violence
A few days later.
"Heyyyy look who’s back~" Huojin teased as he saw Jia coming into the bureau. "You look all upbeat now."
Though Jia was still using the crutch’s support, her knee was very close to recovery now. It wasn’t as painful to walk as before.
"Guess you really enjoyed your vacation with Dr. Yang," he raised his brow.
"Don’t make me beat you up so badly that you would need a vacation now," she smiled with a hint of warning.
"Yes, you haven’t lost your fiery touch. Glad to see you doing well," he chuckled.
She rolled her eyes. "How were things here?"
"Same old, same old. I am catching up with Wen Luoyang to check if he got any updates on that tattoo artist."
She nodded.
The emergency line hit red and Jia took that as a sign of incoming work. "Guess my work really missed me."
"Missed you and Yang Mingshen working together~"
"You seriously need a beating, Huojin. You continue your investigation regarding the tattoo. Meanwhile," she straightened up. "Let’s greet the first case of the day after a long vacation."
—
The case turned out to be a brawl at a particular high school which started out as a minor fight but then turned into full blown violence. Teenagers were hurt and injured.
Jia, along with Officer Xiyang and Mingshen, with Bojing and Shilin, were at the principal’s office confronting the students. There were six boys in line with the last one at some distance from the other five.
Bojing and Shilin already started with the first aid for the five boys with Mingshen tending to the last boy in the group.
Naturally, the principal’s fury soared at the highest point.
"Who started the fight? This is a respectable school where we teach students, not raise hooligans! You all were this close to being sent off to the hospital!
"He beat us up!" A sixteen year old Gang lashed out, pointing at the boy who Mingshen was tending to.
Zedong said, "He raised his hand first! He started beating us up like a madman."
Jia alternated her gaze between them. "What is the context? He just came out of nowhere and used violence?"
A third boy, Yuhan, snorted. "We were just talking to him and he suddenly got triggered. How is it our fault?"
Mingshen saw the boy he was taking care of, named Xiong Jin, clench his fists. His eyes looked red with fury.
Xiyang asked, "What were you talking about?"
"Just some stuff here and there about him and his girlfriend. What was there to get so angry about?"
The principal’s brow twitched. "Xiong Jin, are you dating someone here? Isn’t it against the rules to be in a relationship? You have no fear, do you!"
Jin bit his lip hard but he said nothing in his defense.
Jia looked at Jin. "Is it true what they are saying?"
"...Yes. I started the fight but only because they were talking nonsense and insensitively about her. I couldn’t take it so...!"
Mingshen cocked his brow. "A lone boy taking up on a gang of five? Feisty. I like you."
Jia sent a warning glare in his direction.
Zedong exclaimed. "Hey it’s not our fault if you are so damn sensitive!"
"You won’t understand it because your sorry ass doesn’t have a girlfriend, do you? Probably the reason why no girl looks at you."
"You fucking-"
"Enough, all of you!" The principal roared. "Xiong Jin, I have no choice but to call your parents. And you five too. Breaking rules left and right and getting into fights. They should know what you are doing in school instead of studying."
That immediately drained all the color off his face. "No! That’s not necessary. I-I will apologize for my actions, Sir. No matter what, I shouldn’t have resorted to violence...But please don’t call my parents."
Mingshen glanced at his body trembling with fright. Jia, too, saw a distinct dread enveloping his eyes.
The principal said, "I am afraid it’s out of my hands now. I mean just look at your state. How will you explain your injuries to them? If I don’t call them, then they would come crashing my office door anyway!"
"No..."
Jia felt helpless to intervene. It was only right for their parents to be called and informed but she thought to at least stay and try to diffuse the situation for Jin.
He really looks terrified for some reason, she thought.
Xiyang blinked. "By the way, who called us here? I heard it was some female student on call though we didn’t get her name. It was very chaotic."
Even the principal was clueless. "I also don’t know. But...are they going to be arrested?"
The boys immediately stiffened at that.
"A-arrest? Jail?" Gang stammered. "I don’t want to go to jail! It was all Jin’s fault anyway!"
Shilin said, "Please don’t move or I could end up hurting you."
Mingshen caught a slight movement from the doorside.
Jia assured. "Nobody will go to jail. But at the same time, this is not an acceptable behavior either. Somebody could have seriously gotten hurt. You are minors, so there won’t be any arrests but we need to talk to your parents."
The boys looked genuinely terrified. Bringing parents into the picture was a nightmare for any teenager.
Mingshen squinted his eyes at that shadow. Suddenly, he felt a gaze at him and he turned. "Were you staring at me just now?"
Jin almost jumped up with a scare. "Nope..."
Mingshen gave him the benefit of doubt and got up. "My job is done. I am heading out."
—
An anxious figure was sneakily pacing back and forth outside the principal’s office when a chilling, hair-raising sensation intruded the air.
"You seem to be that brat’s girlfriend."
The young girl jolted terrified and took a few steps back.
Mingshen smiled. "I am a bad wolf but I am not interested in eating kids. So chill."
The girl tremblingly clasped her hands together and she immediately lowered her head.
He tilted his head. "Did you call the cops?"
