Chapter 120: The Devil Doctor at Spicy’s home
Jia stopped and turned her head, narrowing her eyes dangerously. "Who are you calling stubborn and a pain in the ass?"
"Cops," he smiled without a trace of guilt.
"And you think you are any less stubborn and a pain in the ass?"
"The adjectives associated with me are handsome, wealthy and talented."
"Also, narcissist, arrogant and evil."
"Egoistic and too full of myself if you may also add~"
Jia was tired. She simply wanted to lay on the couch now so amidst a violent wave of denial in her heart, she grudgingly accepted his help.
Mingshen smirked with victory. He approached closer to her but Jia held her palm forward. "I refuse to be held like a rice sack again."
He blinked at her, tilting his head. "Who said I would be carrying you like that?"
Her gaze darkened. "Don’t even dream of a princess carry. I won’t give you any chance of being unnecessarily touchy with me."
"Who said I would be carrying you at all?"
"Huh? Then how are you supposed to help me?"
"By teaching you how to walk with a crutch obviously. The assault you are doing towards that stick is too agonizing for my heart to bear."
"..."
Mingshen burst into laughter. "I carried you before because you didn’t have any support. You weren’t in that state to walk by yourself. But I won’t carry you now. I am a doctor. My job is to teach you how to properly walk with the crutch. Doctors don’t spoil their patients."
Her brow twitched and a wave of extreme embarrassment crashed in her heart like a tsunami on a sea shore.
Damn it! I want to kill myself!
Mingshen leaned closer to her face and devilishly whispered. "It’s alright Spicy. It’s fine to admit that your desperate inner desire is for me to carry you. That wish is so very common among the female population."
Yeah I knew he would twist it in this way, Jia gritted her teeth. Ugh, I am so stupid!
Mingshen stood behind her and placed his hand overs hers that held the crutch. "Take your good foot forward."
She grunted and did as instructed.
"Place the crutch ahead parallel to where your foot is."
She did so.
"Put your strength into the crutch and slowly lift yourself in the air. Then move your upper body forward."
She stumbled at the lifting her foot part, making the crutch slip. Mingshen caught it and Jia by her waist at the same time, unfazed.
Before Jia could apologize, he released his hand from her waist after stabilizing her. He put the stick back in her hand in its upright position and calmly said, "Again."
She looked up at him, surprised. She had expected him to throw a cheesy line again, but he didn’t.
She cleared her throat and repeated the steps. It was after a few tries that she got the hang and sync of using the crutch. By then, they reached the apartment’s lift.
She looked back at him and said, "Thanks for the help. I think I can manage from here."
"I don’t think so," he smiled and pointed at the board he was looking at.
It was a note from the apartment’s committee.
’Lift is down. Repairs are in progress. Please use the stairs until it’s fixed. Regret for the inconvenience caused.’
Jia’s jaw dropped.
My house is on the third floor but with my knee...
A bright, beaming ray of golden light blinded her eyes whose source was none other than Mingshen. "How fate keeps us inseparable~"
I should ask why fate is my enemy, she closed her eyes.
—
Jia laid back on the couch and finally her leg got the well-deserved rest it needed. She looked half-dead with all the climbing on the stairs while learning to use the crutch.
"So this is Spicy’s house~"
The only elated existence in the room right now was of Mingshen’s who couldn’t wait to explore Jia’s house as if it was an adventure spot.
"Where is the living room?"
She gave him a dry look. "The couch is here. The TV is here. What do you think this room is?"
He gasped. "The entrance directly leads to the living area? I thought this was the porch and then came the living room."
Her brow twitched. "This is a two bedroom house apartment, Dr. Yang. I sincerely suggest not to compare it with your luxurious Yang mansion."
"It’s not just about the porch but the problem is the size of this living room too. I can already see the kitchen from here. How do you accomodate in such a small and tiny place? I don’t even have the space to stretch my legs," he complained.
He rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "Poor people are flexible on so many levels. Interesting."
"That was offensive on so many levels too," she scowled. "I am not poor."
"If you can reach the kitchen in just five steps from the living room, then yes you are," he lamented.
Her knuckles cracked with a thirst of violence.
"Is that the bedroom there?" He asked with sparkling irises.
"Try and step inside and this crutch will land directly on your head," she smiled alarmingly.
He smiled mischievously. "Do you have naughty things on display over there? My curiosity just keeps on increasing."
"So does my urge to strangle you."
Mingshen stepped into the kitchen and looked around. It was compact but well maintained. He rummaged through all the containers. "Where do you keep the coffee?"
Jia threw her head back on the pillow.
Only because he helped me. Only because he helped me, she tried to soothe herself.
"Left upper cupboard."
A minute later, he poked his head out and said, "This is instant coffee."
"So?"
"I only drink coffee ground out of the best and pure quality coffee beans."
"What is here is what you get."
"I want pure grounded coffee."
"Then you are not getting any coffee here."
"But I want to drink coffee."
"Then use the instant one."
"But I want pure grounded coffee."
"See, I feel like killing you too but not everytime we can get what we wish for, right?" She smiled.
"So I don’t get to drink coffee?"
"Either you drink the instant one or get out of my kitchen."
Mingshen wasn’t so pleased with the outcome. He opened the fridge instead where he found too much cheese to his taste.
"Is your house a cheese factory, Spicy?"
He stared at all the cheese inside with a tilted head. He closed the fridge and came out of the kitchen. Near the TV where the table was, he observed a picture frame but the picture faced down not the front.
Hm?
He lifted the wooden frame and saw a family picture, happily posing for the camera. Her mother Song Lan, held baby Lihua in her arms while little Jia stood between her and her father, Song Wuying, with a merry grin on her lips.
Huhh...
"I wonder what’s so interesting there," Jia asked from afar.
"Oh something very interesting indeed," he murmured.
He kept the picture frame back to how it was and turned. His gaze fell on Jia, who was staring outside the window, dejected. Somewhere Mingshen felt as if he could sense guilt in those irises too.
"Is the outside world more beautiful than Yang Mingshen standing before you?"
Her stupor broke, but was too tired to rebuke.
Mingshen arched his brow. "Are you thinking about Zhang Luqi?"
She silently met his black eyes. She softly rested her head back on the couch.
"I failed Zhang Luqi. Quite royally at that."
