Chapter 119: The most difficult patients

Chapter 119: The most difficult patients

"When the car was overturned, her head got badly crushed as it hit the roof. The crack to her skull caused internal bleeding. We have stopped that bleeding but some crucial nerves have been affected which has left her in a comatose state."

Like a slow motion movie, Jia witnessed Zhang Feiyue’s world collapse. The news didn’t just crush his hopes but hers as well. Zhang Luqi had just escaped from one nightmare and now she was already gripped by another.

Jia closed her eyes, defeated.

"Jia?"

A look of surprise flashed in Huojin’s eyes seeing her in the hospital. "What are you doing...Wait, are you hurt?"

"Just a little tussle happened with the goons. But Lim got stabbed."

"What?" He exclaimed. "Shit. How is he doing now?"

Bojing answered. "H-He is out of danger now. He is in the same hospital. I got the reports before c-coming here."

"Thank God," he sighed in relief, "And you said goons. There were more than one?"

"Two more. They arrived when Lim and I were on our way. I just came to know about Zhang Luqi’s accident."

He grimly nodded. He noticed the doctor was already out of the operation theater, but Zhang Feiyue’s expression still failed to show any positive and joyous change.

"...What did the doctor say?" He asked with an ominous feeling.

Shilin said after a moment, "Internal bleeding and fracture to the skull affecting important nerves. She slipped into a coma."

He exhaled, his shoulders slumping in helplessness. His fingers tightened into his fist.

"They don’t deserve this. Zhang Feiyue is a good man. He wanted to take a vacation with her. He wanted...to spend time with her."

Jia said, "Zhang Luqi is a brave woman too. She took the risk to lie and called the police. They hit her and tortured her and now this?"

"Were they thieves?"

She shook her head. "They looked more organized than that. Zhang Luqi was about to tell me more about it when she got the news of the accusation against her husband. She rushed out soon after. The goons are dead, but I will find out about them. They didn’t drop in for a simple robbery."

Bojing tried to reassure. "Don’t w-worry sis! The doctors here will do their very best to bring her out of coma. It m-might take some time but I-I am hopeful!"

Huojin asked, "Should I tell him about this morning’s incident with Zhang Luqi?"

Jia hesitated. "He is already going through a lot. He wouldn’t be able to bear it. I think we should wait until he is a little more stable."

Huojin agreed. He looked back at Zhang Feiyue who looked like he had aged a lot. The news had sucked out his vitality.

Why do good people always have to suffer?

"I will drop by to check in on Lim."

"I will come too," Jia said, "I need to tell him the news. He wanted to help Zhang Luqi the most."

"Take care, Lim," Jia said with a reassuring smile.

Officer Lim laid on the bed, weakly nodding to her. The news of Zhang Luqi’s accident had devastated him too. He wanted to give her his sincere apology for ignoring her distress calls. But now he didn’t know when that time would come. He only prayed for her to recover as quickly as she could.

They stepped out of Lim’s ward and Huojin asked, "Are you getting discharged now?"

She nodded.

"Cool. Let me drop you home."

"No need~"

Mingshen popped in with his usual cheery self. "As a responsible doctor, I insist on dropping Spicy home."

"Home or your lab?" She questioned with a raised brow.

"I can divert the car in that direction too if that’s what you want~"

Huojin said, "I think that’s a better idea if Yang Mingshen goes with you. You cannot go alone and if something happens to your leg, a doctor’s company is more reassuring."

Mingshen sparkled with delight. "I don’t give you enough credit for your intelligence, do I?"

He smiled. "I don’t need your validation anyway, Dr. Yang."

"From the world, no. From me, yes."

His brow twitched.

"I leave Jia in your care. Bye."

"Huojin, you traitor!" Jia yelled.

Mingshen smirked at her disgruntled expression. "Shall we?"

"So how do you find traveling in a limousine for the very first time in your life?" Mingshen asked like an excited child.

"Why the heck just one person needs such a big car to go around?"

"The car should also fit my status and ego, don’t you think?"

Jia gave him a stare. "You know sometimes I fail to understand if I should be furious at your narcissism or be impressed by your self-awareness of it."

"Hmm, two very difficult choices indeed. I would love to impress you but then again, your spicy fury is something to behold too~"

"You better not park this luxury in front of my apartment. I don’t wish to become an entertaining spectacle for my neighbors."

He chuckled. "The correct word to say here starting from en is envy, not entertainment."

Though Jia didn’t agree with him, the only thing she truly appreciated from this grand limousine was the infinite leg space she was getting to enjoy. The soft cushion underneath and the space to extend her leg was simply a blessing.

Reaching the apartment complex, Jia painfully stepped out with the help of her crutch. Her feet were unstable as she was still getting used to using the crutch support.

"Thanks for the ride. I will head now-"

Mingshen was out of the car, whistling. "Let’s go."

"Where?"

He innocently blinked. "Your home, where else?"

She was left speechless and amazed by his confidence at the same time.

"You think I will invite the devil to my home?"

"I like my coffee black. Thank you very much~"

"You can leave, Mingshen."

"But you can’t leave without me. See Spicy? Even fate keeps us inseparable."

Jia didn’t answer further and started walking by herself though it wasn’t ’walking’ in any way. Two steps later, pain swelled in her knee and she faltered.

Ouch!

She thought it was only a matter of adding more mental strength and determination for the mission. She didn’t lack any of it in front of the idea of seeing the devil in her house.

That determination didn’t let her go very far though.

Mingshen craned his neck and yawned. "I am ready whenever you are~ Like I always say. Cops. Always a bunch of stubborn and pain in the ass patients."
