Chapter 452: Look, I’m not made for speeches, okay?

"Here’s come the newly wedded couple!" Arta greeted us like an MC or something, spreading her arms wide in front of the garden and announcing our appearance.

The sounds of whistling and applause filled the garden again, and I bashfully looked at all of my guests spreading on the garden tables. Initially, I had this thought of having a long table where everyone could sit together. Unfortunately, it was impossible in the garden; I would have to do it in the field, but that wasn’t exactly the flowerful venue I envisioned.

And so, Angwi and the other demons had put several tables around the garden, with flower beds in full blooms between us. Now that I thought about it, it was better this way. They all might be my friends and family that I cherished, but they also came from different backgrounds. While it would be nice if they could blend, I didn’t want my happy event to be filled with awkwardness.

Also...it was hard to blend with a Sacred Guardian or a High Shaman, so...

I kind of felt sorry for Lesta though, who had to sit between his obsessive vampire lover and his doting vampire-in-law. He couldn’t even muster his usual relaxed, diplomatic smile. Malta was sitting at that table too, and seeing there was an empty chair there, it should belonged to Arta.

A family meeting! Nice, wasn’t it?

The other vassals sat at another table, and Caba had finally stopped crying, left with puffed eyes. My friends--transmigration-friends--were together at a slightly larger table, simply because Izzi was still operating the video recording device; now with three girls hounding him about the angles and whatnot. Poor guy.

But why was Zia not there? Obviously, because she was babysitting my child at the ’family’ table with Amarein and Ignis, who could now leisurely lay on a tablecloth without fearing it would catch on fire accidentally.

The last table, the biggest one, was for the servants--although, right now, they were still busy serving the food that Angwi had prepared for us since dawn.

"Augh--what is this? What have you been doing inside?" as expected, Arta was looking at the crease in my clothes disapprovingly. "Don’t tell me you already have your first ni--"

"Are you crazy?!" I clasped her mouth shut. "There’s my child over there!"

Arta grinned behind my hand, dark eyes curled teasingly. "It’s still fun teasing you even after you get married, Young Master."

Ugh--

She laughed and took my hand off her mouth. "Shall we get to the party, then?"

"Oh, wait..." I turned at the big girl who had been looking at me patiently with sparkling eyes. Vrida lowered her head and nuzzled me gently as if fearing she might mess up my clothes. She purred softly, touching the mark on my finger with its snout. "Thank you, sweet girl."

Vrida purred again and suddenly, a group of colorful cotton balls--I mean, fur--peeked out behind her head. I gasped in delight and turned to look at Doun, who grinned in response. "Oh, you’re here too!" I picked up one of the rabbits, the one who was fused with me the other day. "Would you like to explore the garden while you’re here? You can’t be naughty and damage anything, though."

The rabbits made a few eager noises and I turned toward Natha. "Can they?"

Natha, who had been staring at the colorful rabbit and looking all distracted, coughed and cleared his throat afterward. "It’s your garden, so you can do whatever you want."

I narrowed my eyes and whispered under my breath. "You want me to fuse again, huh? Pervert."

He coughed again and picked up the rest of the rabbits in his arms, proactively taking them to the garden where our guests had been waiting. My Lord, you are really true to your desire, huh?

"I’ll see you again later, girl," I patted the wyvern’s cheek and followed my new husband to our little reception banquet.

"Papa! Papa! Over here!" Jade energetically waved his hand. The table was right in front of the pond, so my little boy could look at the fish and the garden together.

I glanced at the servants who were still handing out canapes and refreshments around, and I thought it would take them a while since even for the little things, Angwi prepared a lot of them. So I put the rabbit in my hand on Jade’s lap and patted the boy’s hat. "Wait a bit, yes?"

I went to the next table, nestled between blooming purple and blue flower beds. Izzi was still controlling the birds to take a wide shot scene under Neel’s instruction, but Zarfa and Aina stood up to welcome me with open arms.

"Vaaal!"

I hugged them again; easier now since my cape was already gone and my hair already tied. "Why are you only here today? You should have come yesterday--we’ll have more time to talk then!"

"Well...we thought the place would be busy with all the preparation, so we didn’t want to be a bother," Zarfa grinned. "Besides, you shouldn’t be busy tending to your guest when it’s your big day, right?"

I pursed my lips in disagreement. I had nothing to do and a lot of free time stressed me out. I would have been more than happy to tend to them if that meant I would be able to take my mind off the depression caused by missing Natha to death.

But, well...they probably thought it would be awkward with so many demons around.

"Don’t worry," Zarfa laughed and squeezed my cheeks. "Your nanny is taking care of us well. She even prepared rooms for us already."

"Yes, yes," Aina nodded. "So don’t worry and go about your party!"

"You’re just here for the liquid elemental stone, aren’t you?" I narrowed my eyes and Aina giggled in response.

I bid them goodbye--for now--and patted Izzi’s shoulder to cheer him on. He just gave me an amused glance before getting back to his cameramen work. Natha joined me then, and we visited the table briefly one by one while the food was being distributed.

Caba looked like he was about to weep again, so Natha spent time patting the shifter some more--as well as telling him to stop drying his tear duck. Opti had a field day laughing at the bald demon, while Haikal shook his head exasperatedly between the two opposite emotions. He did make a bit of a speech about how he would strive to protect me even more, which was very Haikal.

The most interesting table, as expected, was the other ’family’ table. Malta tried to keep her expression steady, but it was hard to do so in front of someone revered as a half-deity. And if it was hard for Malta, how much harder do you think it would be for the one who suddenly became a half-deity ’son-in-law’?

Well...technically, they weren’t ’married’. But in the vampire community, being someone’s Eternal meant becoming part of the family. Since Eruha was the progenitor’s direct offspring, it would mean he was the big uncle of most vampires--and so did Lesta, as Eruha’s partner.

It seemed that Lesta only realized that fact now after D’Ara came. Having a Sacred Guardian tailing him almost everywhere, asking all kinds of things about him like it was an interview, and taking him shopping for days, drowning him in gifts...

It was overwhelming for Lesta. He had already been stressed out before by the fact that Eruha was basically a ’prince’ and now...well, he had met the Queen Mother.

The one who faced it all the best was Arta, who had never been too formal with Natha anyway. She easily took it that she was the Vampire Mother’s in-law now, and had fun because she also received a lot of gifts as an extension.

Truly the Lord of Greed’s vassal!

"Should we talk later?" D’Ara whispered to me before I got back to my table, and I nodded quickly.

Yeah, I still had my wedding gift from D’Ara, and since she was going back later, we only had today left. But for now...

"Speech!" Arta cheekily shouted before my butt even touched the seat.

I looked at Natha, but this new husband of mine continued to sit down and looked at me with a little smirk. "It’s your party, sweetheart. You should be the one giving it."

What?! How foul! I pressed my lips but caught the others’ waiting eyes. Jade even chanted cheerfully; "Speech! Speech! Papa’s speech!"

Ugh...

Well...I guess, this was indeed my event. Besides, they were all my friends and family that I personally invited, so...

They deserved my appreciation, right?

I took a deep breath and looked around, feeling a bit embarrassed at their attention. But I felt Natha’s hand on mine, and, while holding him, I felt a boost of courage.

"Umm...I’m definitely not good at this but...first, I want to thank everyone today for coming to our w-wedding," I bit my lips in embarrassment--couldn’t believe I was still flustered saying it out loud. But they gave me applause as if encouraging me to say more, and I took a deep breath again.

I glanced at them again, one by one, each one smiling and looking happy at my own happiness, and it warmed my heart; giving me the courage to say what was inside my heart.

"Last year...yeah, I think if someone asked me last year, they would know I had never, in my wildest dream, thought all of this would happen," I gripped Natha’s hand tightly. "I had no courage to think that I would find the first love I had many years ago, let alone marry him today."

"Congratulations!" Zarfa yelled from her table and whistled. Yeah--she was the only one who knew my massive crush on Natha in the past.

I laughed and continued after the garden quieted down again. "I also...never thought I would meet such good people, that I would make a lot of friends, meet my old friends, and even...find my family..."

I looked to my left, and Jade grabbed my hand with a big grin that was also present on Zia’s lips. Amarein smiled gently at me, holding Jade’s hand as if it were an extension of mine.

"So, today, I just feel very very thankful and--"

[Papa...]

I paused and blinked, looking at Jade. "Did you call me, Jade?"

"No? Jade is good and quiet!"

[Papa!]

I inhaled sharply and looked down, at the black pendant that I didn’t take off even during my wedding.

"Sweetheart, is something wrong?"

[Papa! Con...ats!]

Oh...oh, Gods...

[Papa! Let’s meet soon!]

"Sweetheart?" Natha grasped my face and it was only then that I realized I had tears streaming down my cheeks. Even if I tried to hold it, I couldn’t. "Sweetheart, what’s wrong?"

"Papa? Papa sick?"

"No," I shook my head swiftly, laughing even as tears continued to stream down my cheeks and wet my clothes. I grasped the black pendant tight and looked at Natha, wishing he could also hear the voice of our unborn child, which I hadn’t been able to hear for a while. "I just...I just feel so, so happy right now."
