Chapter 451: Isn’t it weird when you move from being a fiance to a husband?
"Alright, alright, let’s get ready!"
Arta quickly ushered me back to the suite so I could take off the cape and any accessory that would hinder me from enjoying the banquet. The servants had been busy tidying up the suite during the ceremony, but they offered me lots and lots of congratulations. It was all very nice until they started calling me ’my Lord’ too.
"No! Don’t call me that!" I pursed my lips and shook my head firmly. "I don’t want that!"
"But...you are Lord Consort now, Sir..."
"No!"
"Just do what he wants," I heard a chuckle and Natha was coming inside the room with Jade.
Right! We were no longer banned from meeting now! I perked up and opened my arms to receive Jade, who immediately hugged my neck with a cheerful laugh. I hadn’t had the chance earlier, since my outfit was rather unfit to carry a child--lots of painful accessories and cords in front.
"Papa, look, look--we’re a match!" Jade fiddled with the embroidered lapel of my tunic while Arta tied my hair neatly so I could eat without fussing about my hair later.
And yes--Jade’s white outfit and colorful hair made our clothes match. We also had the same snow flowers decorate our clothes--and hair, in my case. The little boy turned toward Natha and said smugly. "Look, Jade is matched with Papa--unlike Nightmare!"
Arta was choked from muffling her laugh, and the servants froze in dread. What an amusing difference between their reaction. Natha, however, merely scoffed and patted his boutonniere.
"Only one flower!"
He pointed at the ribbon tying his hair next.
"Jade also have the same ribbon!"
Natha shrugged and just casually took a seat in one of the armchairs. Jade’s brows raised and the boy looked at me weirdly. "Papa, Nightmare is weird today. Nightmare don’t tease Jade at all..."
Were you hoping he would be?
"His Lordship is just soooo happy that nothing will make him angry today," Arta said with a smirk while tying my hair with the same ribbon that Natha used.
"...ugh, so boring," Jade pursed his lips and plopped down on my lap.
Pfft--you were getting used to it, huh? Feeling lonely now?
"He can do and say whatever," Natha said nonchalantly, lounging back and closing his eyes. "I’m going to take you far away soon after all."
Jade gasped and was suddenly reminded about the honeymoon. He turned to look at me with trembling lips and glazed eyes. "We’ve talked about it, so you shouldn’t cry again," I pinched his cheek lightly. "You wear such pretty clothes; don’t sprinkle it with tears, mm?"
Jade pressed his bowed lips, and before I could prevent him, jumped off my lap and ran toward Natha. "Nightmare bad!" he kicked the demon’s shin, who only smirked at the tickling. "Nightmare take Papa away!"
Cheekily, Natha just smirked and shrugged while letting Jade hit him for a while. But when Jade trembled in annoyance, he laughed and lifted the boy to his lap, before whispering something to the boy’s ear. I had no idea what it was, but Jade perked up; eyes widened and lips parted. His annoyed expression gradually turned into awe, and in the end, he looked at Natha with hands on his mouth.
"Really?" the little boy almost gasped. "Nightmare not lying?"
"Have I ever not delivered what I promised?" Natha tilted his head, and Jade took some time to think about it before shaking his head. "See? You don’t need to doubt me."
"F-fine!" Jade puffed his reddened cheeks and turned his face away from Natha. "J-Jade will believe Nightmare this once and let you take Papa!"
Wow...what kind of bribe did he use this time? A chest full of expensive candy? A vault of elemental mana stones? A warehouse of jelly?
Oh, who cares; as long as they got along and we could go on our honeymoon.
"Now," Natha suddenly stood up while carrying Jade, walking toward Zia--who had just entered the room--and put Jade in her arms. "May I have a private moment with my husband?"
I pressed my lips as the heat started to climb my cheeks. Arta cleared her throat and the servants giggled as they cleared the room. Zia pursed his lips because she had to retreat back again, but Natha had already closed the door and left the suite empty with just the two of us there.
Oh, the sound my heart made when I saw him walking toward me. I didn’t think I even breathed at that moment--or blinked. All I did was look at him getting closer, and inhaled sharply when he lowered himself to kneel in front of me.
"My sweetheart," he took my hands into his and kissed every knuckle. "My lovely sweetheart," he pressed his head into my hands, sighing long. "My dearest sweetheart."
How many times would he call me that? My neck and cheeks had become so hot from his continued call with that soft but strained, almost desperate voice.
"Nat..."
"How could I be this lucky?" he lifted his head and looked at me. All the cheekiness and smugness he showed us earlier was gone. "How could you see someone like me in that way?"
I blinked and gripped his hand in return, reminded of the time I looked into his eyes and felt how he saw me all this time the moment we were bound by the oath of eternal. I thought it might be no more than my delusion, but...
"What?" I bit my lips and asked hurriedly, for some reason feeling nervous. "What did you see?"
He rubbed his thumb over my mark and shook his head, which confused me for a second. "Nothing; just me," he said, with a slight tremble in his strained voice. "Just an empty path and...me."
Oh...
I pulled my hands away from his hold and grasped his cheeks, leaning down so there was nothing I could see but him. "Natha, you are my whole world," I whispered what I had yet to convey during the ceremony earlier. "You are the person who opens the path for me. Everything I have in this world is only possible because of you. For me, there’s no one else but you; no one is more important than you."
I heard his breath stutter and he turned his head so his lips were pressing into my palm. He took a deep breath, and my eyes widened when my hand got wet from the tears falling from his eyes.
"W-why are you crying?" I wiped his cheeks with my thumb. I wanted to use my sleeve, but I was worried the small sequins there would hurt his skin.
"I had held it back since the ceremony," he said with a short chuckle, closing his eyes and taking another deep breath. "I just didn’t want anyone else to see me like this."
I bit my lips and felt my eyes start to heat up and blur. The next thing I knew, I had thrown myself into his embrace--just what I had been holding back since the ceremony. Hugging him on the floor, I buried my face on his neck and felt the tears come out no matter how much I held myself back.
"Arta will scold me," I laughed with tears in my eyes, but Natha just scoffed and caressed my hair, telling me to not mind her.
Just like that, I spent a few more minutes in his arms, inhaling his scent, and truly, truly felt his presence. I soaked in the fact that we were truly married; that I had the name ’Ra’ added before my own name. But even more than that...
I pulled back and stared at the mark spreading along my ring finger. Just looking at it made my lips stretch.
The oath of eternal.
We might not have all the time in the world like vampires, but...with this, I would be able to live as long as Natha. I wouldn’t have to be afraid that he would lose me, or that he would forget me after I died, because we would live together and die together.
Natha took my hand and kissed the mark, making me feel rather tingly. "Thank you," he whispered. "For doing this."
"What are you talking about?" I slipped my fingers between his, intertwining our marks. "I want this; it’s my selfish objective so you won’t look for anyone else but me."
He scoffed and pulled me close again so he could nuzzle my neck. "And why would I do that? I have the loveliest person here, the love of my life. I have spent all of my luck getting you in my arms," he kissed my neck and pulled back, tilting his head--no one would think he had just shed some tears a minute ago. "Or do you think I am such a dumb person?"
I laughed and grasped his cheeks again, pulling him closer for a kiss. "Well...what can I do? I am the bride of Greed."
"Mm, it’s indeed nice being so desired."
Arta would truly scold me again for all the wrinkles and creases I caused in this brand-new outfit, but I couldn’t care less. I kissed him long; nice, soft, and long, as if there wasn’t a group of people waiting for us down there for a feast. As if there were only the two of us in this world.
But it was true enough for us. Just like how there was only me in his world, there was only him in my world. We are tied in the past, the present, and the future we strive to have. We might not be able to live eternally, couldn’t stay in this world forever. But during our time in this world, we would be together until the end of our time.
And that was enough.
That was our forever. That was our eternal.
