Chapter 44: Robber Inside of Dungeon
Agares saw that the woman was still slumped weakly on the floor. He observed her legs and the rest of her body—there didn’t seem to be anything wrong with her.
"Aoi," Agares called briefly.
Aoi nodded, understanding what Agares was implying. The white fox’s eyes remained fixed on the mysterious woman.
She wanted to know what was in the woman’s heart, especially given the suspicion she felt.
’Come on, feel sorry for me, sir! That way, I can easily rob you,’ the woman thought.
The white fox jolted in surprise, her eyes widening with a bright glow as she heard the woman’s inner voice.
"She’s planning to rob you, Master!" Aoi declared, startling the woman and making Agares smile.
"She read my mind, damn it!" the woman shouted.
"Come out, all of you!"
One by one, four people emerged from their hiding places on the fifth floor of the dungeon. They appeared and surrounded Agares from all sides, forcing him to prepare himself.
"I didn’t expect a fox that could read minds," said one of the woman’s companions.
"She can not only read minds, she can talk too. I’m sure she’s a rare-type fox," added another.
The woman in front of Agares stood up, no longer moaning in pain as she had before. Agares noticed. He realized she had been faking her injury to rob him.
"Pathetic," Agares sneered.
He drew his sword and swung it forcefully to the side. The enemies looked shocked, but not frightened. Outnumbering him, they were confident they could defeat him.
"You tried to rob me? Are you not afraid of dying?" Agares asked coldly.
"HAHAHA!"
"Stop spouting nonsense! You’re alone, and we’re five. We’re the ones who will destroy you!" one of the men shouted.
He boldly charged forward and leapt while swinging his spear. Agares turned, observing how slow the man’s movements appeared to him.
Agares sidestepped and swung his sword in a wide arc, slicing the man cleanly across the chest using Palace-style sword technique.
"What?! Palace-style sword technique?" another man exclaimed.
"Who are you really?" the woman demanded.
The man fell to the ground, groaning in pain from the wound across his chest. Agares calmly approached him, pointing his sword directly at the man’s throat in a threatening manner.
"Who are you?!" the man shouted.
"I don’t need to explain myself to scum like you."
Agares drove his sword into the man’s neck, twisting the blade until the man writhed silently in agony.
His neck was pierced and bleeding; blood gushed from his mouth as his skin turned pale from blood loss.
Within minutes, the man was dead. The other bandits were stunned—they hadn’t expected their companion, a level 20 adventurer, to be killed so easily.
"Who the hell are you?"
"Let my next attack answer that for you."
"Activate skill!"
"Saber Skill: Shadow Cleave!"
[Saber Skill: Shadow Cleave Activated]
[-150 Mana]
[Mana: 550/1500] [-150]
Agares channeled dark energy into his blade. Not only his sword, but his eyes also glowed with a purplish-black hue, the signature of his darkness affinity.
With a single sweeping slash, he unleashed a massive wave of shadow energy forward. The woman and her three companions panicked. They knew now who Agares was.
"You?! That’s a saber skill attack!"
"NOOO!"
BLAST!
A blast of dark violet energy exploded within the dungeon chamber, striking them directly.
The woman’s body was torn apart, her organs ruptured, blood lost, and internal damage severe. Her companions were in similar states, though barely clinging to life.
"W-What the hell are you doing here... bastard?" one of the men groaned, his leg severed and half of his body charred and burned.
Agares approached the woman, suspecting that she had been the leader of the bandit group. He reached into her pants pocket and successfully retrieved her magic pouch.
Not just hers—he looted all of their pouches. Then, Agares raised his hand and extracted five Dark Essences from their dying bodies.
[DING! Congratulations, Agares! You’ve obtained Dark Essence]
[Amount: 20] [+5]
"What’s that?" Aoi asked, curious about the purple dots floating and entering Agares’ body.
"Nyx calls them Dark Essences."
"What are they for?"
Agares shook his head. He still didn’t know the true use of the Dark Essences. Nyx had once mentioned compressing them into bombs, but Agares didn’t know how.
For now, it was better to collect as many as possible and extract their value later once he had enough.
In addition to the Dark Essences, Agares seized five magic pouches. Before moving to the next floor, he decided to rest and inspect their contents.
’My mana is almost depleted. If I force myself to continue, I might run out mid-battle,’ he thought.
’Maybe these bandits have Mana Potions.’
Agares levitated the five magic pouches and shattered them with dark energy. Items burst out into the air.
Due to the sheer number of items, Agares needed Nyx’s assistance to sort through them again.
"Nyx."
[Standby Mode Deactivated]
[Do you need something, Master?]
"I want you to scan the items and sort them by quality," Agares replied.
[Understood. What quality tiers should I prioritize?]
"Mid and high. Separate the coin pouches and potions from the rest."
[Alright. Command accepted.]
[Separating coin pouches and potions from the sorting process...]

[Item Sorting Complete]
Through his eyes, which were synchronized with the Nyx system, Agares could clearly see differences in the floating items. Nyx explained the classification through a panel in front of him:
[Sorting Categories:]
[Blue: Mid-tier items]
[Yellow: High-tier items]
[Mid-tier items: 39]
[High-tier items: 12]
"Almost half of them are low-quality," Agares muttered.
He saw mid-quality items glowing blue, while high-quality ones shone with a golden-yellow hue. Agares picked them up one by one.
Most were gems and minerals used in forging. Luckily, Agares found two pieces of Mythril Ore.
He took out a side quest token and activated it. The number of Mythril Ore increased on the side quest panel.
[Armor and Sword]
[Tier: 6]
[Materials:]
[5x Mythril Ore] [4/5] [+2]
[1x Tenebrium] [0/1]
[1x Umbrasteel Ingot] [0/1]
However, he didn’t know where to find Tenebrium or Umbrasteel Ingot, nor the last Mythril Ore.
He figured the deeper he went into the dungeon, the more likely he’d find the materials he needed.
"I’ll search for them as I explore deeper."
Agares stored 51 items into his magic pouch and left the rest behind. He didn’t forget to take a Mana Potion to replenish his energy.
[+300 Mana]
[Mana: 850/1500] [+300]
’Only 300 mana restored. Looks like I’ll need more,’ Agares thought.
In front of him were at least six Mana Potions and three HP Potions. For now, he decided to drink two more to prepare for continued exploration.
[+600 Mana]
[Mana: 1450/1500] [+600]
Agares smiled. Once his mana was restored, he stored all remaining items and stood from the stone he’d been sitting on.
He turned to Aoi, noticing her gaze fixed on something on the ground.
"What is it?"
He glanced down—Aoi’s eyes were locked on a piece of bread wrapped in paper. Agares furrowed his brow. Do foxes eat bread? Who knows.
"You want that?"
Aoi nodded enthusiastically, staring at Agares with her big round eyes. Agares walked over and unwrapped the bread—it still looked fresh and unspoiled.
He broke off a small piece and handed it to Aoi. Surprisingly, Aoi eagerly devoured it. Agares could tell she was happy just by the way her tail swayed.
’This fox... she’s truly something else,’ Agares thought.
"It’s all gone."
"Eh? Why did you eat it so fast?" Agares asked.
"I want more."
"Alright. This is the last one. We need to save the rest—you can eat more later."
