Chapter 43: Emberfang Kobold Chief
Chapter 43: Emberfang Kobold Chief
One by one, the city soldiers entered the dungeon in groups of five. In total, there were six groups, all searching for Agares.
Erika sat silently, slumped over while her priest friend healed the wounds on her legs. In her current condition, Erika couldn’t immediately return to the city.
"Was what he said true?" asked the female mage, gossiping.
"About what?" Erika asked.
"The Divine Saber!"
"Tch! There is no Divine Saber. The last knight to hold that title disappeared hundreds of years ago," Feyd explained.
"Then why did he say that if there’s no chance for him to become the Divine Saber?" asked the female mage. Feyd shrugged his shoulders, responding with a gesture of ignorance.
"Forget about Agares. His abilities are beyond our imagination. We’d better focus on Erika’s recovery and return to the city immediately," explained Nash, and everyone, including Erika, obeyed him.
Erika turned her head slowly to the side, feeling pity and sympathy for what had happened to Agares.
Deep down, Erika didn’t want this to happen. But she was aware of the consequences of being friends with a high-ranking fugitive of the Great Empire.
’I hope you’ll be okay, Agares.’
Inside the dungeon, Agares continued walking through the hallway with his digital map activated.
Every now and then, he glanced behind him and faintly heard the sound of footsteps of city soldiers who recklessly entered the dungeon.
’Are they stupid? A dungeon is not a battlefield,’ Agares sneered.
’Just leave them. They’ll find out their mistake soon enough.’
"Nyx."
[Standby Mode Deactivated]
[Do you need anything, Master?]
"Yes. Can you set a route for me to the 100th floor?" asked Agares.
[At this moment, your abilities are not yet enough to challenge the 100th floor directly. Do you want me to set a route through each floor boss?]
"Sure. That’s much better."
[Command received]
[Starting Route Mapping]
[Route Mapping Successful]
[Smart Navigation Activated]
[Total floor bosses: 97]
[Estimated travel time: 5 years]
[I have found the best route to the lowest floor, Master. Do you want to start now?]
"Yes. Show me the route to the fourth floor!"
[Yes, Master]
From Agares’s view, he saw a green arrow showing the best route to reach the fourth floor.
The sound of footsteps was no longer heard from behind the man, as the first group of soldiers was held back in the first floor boss room.
"I knew it. They won’t be able to catch me."
"I’d better improve my abilities here. If I force my way out, the people there will kill me."
"I have to get to the 100th floor and get that sword."
Agares continued walking through several corridors until he arrived at the boss room. Following Nyx’s Smart Navigation instructions, Agares encountered a monster with fire affinity.
Lucky for him! There was only one monster in the floor boss room, and that was it.
It was about 2 meters tall and looked like a red-scaled lizard that seemed to be burning like a blazing fire.
Not only that, it wore light armor made of burnt animal skin. Its hands clutched a magma spear and an animal bone shield.
Now, its attention was focused on Agares. Agares had been detected by it as the floor boss’s challenger.
"Human?!" the monster roared, its loud scream accompanied by a blast of air toward Agares.
"Yes, I’m human. Can you stop screaming? Have you ever brushed your teeth, buddy?!" Agares mocked.
"No one is allowed to say anything about my teeth!"
The monster swung its magma stone spear forward, aiming directly at Agares below. Agares ran in a circle, dodging the monster’s spear thrust.
"Activate Skill!"
"Saber Skill: Shadow Cleave!"
[Saber Skill: Shadow Cleave Activated]
[-150 Mana]
[Mana: 850/1500] [-150]
Agares swung his sword while running in a circle, sending a slashing shadow attack forward, right at the fire lizard monster’s body.
Two attacks were launched from Agares’ first skill. They brought out different damage panels, but the debuff effect was the same.
[+150 dmg]
[+200 dmg]
[Weakened 10s]
[Reduce ATK by 30% per 12s]
[Reduce 10hp/sec for 7s]
Agares jumped far back, watching the monster named Emberfang Kobold Chief get pushed back in pain. Agares’ attack made the Kobold’s HP panel appear in front of Agares.
Its total HP was 550, much less than the Wolf Voidbound Hound. There was a reason why the kobold’s HP was lower, it was because its level was also low — a level 3 monster.
With the total damage dealt and the HP reduction buff, the kobold would lose at least 420 HP, leaving it with around 130 HP to survive.
’A little more. If I can increase the level of my first skill, I might be able to defeat the kobold monster easily,’ explained Agares.
Even so, Agares had 10 precious seconds to use. He had to take advantage of the weakened debuff to deal more damage.
Agares was confident that one attack from him would definitely defeat the kobold.
"Activate Skill!"
"Saber Skill: Shadow Cleave!"
[Saber Skill: Shadow Cleave Activated]
[-150 Mana]
[Mana: 700/1500] [-150]
Agares channels his dark energy into his sword, then swings it forward to unleash a shadow slash attack.
The Kobold monster cannot dodge, its body struck directly by Agares’ attack.
[+650 damage] [Critical ATK]
[DING! Congratulations, Agares! You have defeated the monster]
[Name: Emberfang Kobold Chief]
[Lv: 3]
[+500 exp]
[Item:]
[+20 Silver coins]
[x1 Scorched Bone Shard]
[x1 Minor Fire Essence]
Agares obtained the items and exp after defeating the 4th floor boss. The Kobold monster’s death opened the dungeon corridor door to the 5th floor, which Agares did not waste.
He stepped out of the fourth floor boss room to arrive at the fifth floor. Aoi woke up from her sleep and saw Agares still exploring the dungeon.
Aoi had fallen asleep for quite a while due to the effects of his sound resonance ability.
"You’re awake, Aoi."
"Are you still exploring this dungeon, Master?" asked Aoi, half asleep.
"There’s a lot happening. I can’t leave for now, not until my power increases."
"Eh? What’s going on? Did something happen?" asked Aoi, panicking.
Agares smiled. Aoi’s presence was enough to keep Agares from feeling lonely in this place.
"I’ll explain everything to you later."
"SOMEONE HELP US!" shouted someone from the end of the hallway.
Agares froze. He hurriedly left the area to approach the sound. When he arrived, he saw a woman sitting alone on the floor of the dungeon, crying uncontrollably.
"What happened?" asked Agares.
The woman raised her head and looked at Agares hopefully, "Sir, please help us."
