Chapter 38: Search For Forge Materials

"Wait! You are—"

"You better not speak too loudly. I don’t want anyone to hear us."

Agares gagged Erika’s mouth and interrupted her. This was a risk Agares had to take when he revealed his identity to Erika.

Even if Agares didn’t tell her, she would eventually find out when she arrived at the Thorn residence.

It would be much better if she found out directly from Agares rather than from her father. That way, Erika could try to understand all of this and Agares’ connection to her rescue.

"What are you doing there?!" asked Nash.

Agares smiled, saying that they were fine. The man held out his hand and grabbed the rope, letting Erika go first.

Erika was still lost in thought, her mind wandering far away, thinking about why Agares had saved her.

Wasn’t Agares a cruel and dangerous man to everyone? Wasn’t it that which made him a threat to the Great Empire?

Her thoughts were in turmoil, her head shaking in disbelief at what was happening. When everything was completely empty and confusing, Agares tapped Erika on the shoulder to snap her out of it.

"Hey, are you okay?"

"What...?"

Erika looked down and saw Agares holding out the rope for her to use. Agares was right! It was Erika’s turn to climb up.

The woman grabbed the rope and began to climb up the steep slope. When everything felt so easy, Erika didn’t expect that the rope wouldn’t hold for long.

The rope broke! Erika screamed as she fell from a great height. Agares gasped and quickly drew his sword.

"ERIKA!" shouted Nash and the other members of the adventuring party.

Agares threw his sword forward, sticking it into the steep floor as he jumped hard toward it.

"Hold my hand!" Agares said firmly.

Erika turned and saw Agares. She managed to grab Agares’ hand just before her body hit the trap of sharp thorns filled with human bones.

Agares managed to catch Erika, but he couldn’t hold on any longer. He threw Erika’s body back into the first hallway, and she fell and was saved.

The man also jumped back while pulling out his sword. Now, the rope was cut, and there was no easy way for Agares and Erika to return.

"Do you have another plan?" Nash asked.

"My sword isn’t very strong right now, and I’ve run out of rope. It seems I’ll have to find a way out by going around."

"Go and tell her family. She’s safe with me," Agares replied.

"What about you both?"

"We’ll get out of here as quickly as possible."

Nash fell silent, as did the others. They didn’t know what to do; what was happening now was beyond their expectations. But at least Erika wasn’t trapped there alone.

With Agares’ strength, Nash was certain they could leave this place quickly.

"Alright. We’ll wait for you at the dungeon entrance," said Nash, Agares nodded.

Agares turned and saw Erika still looking down, unable to believe that she was currently trapped in an S-level dungeon with the worst person on the entire human continent, Agares the Saber monster.

"Sigh!"

"I didn’t do anything. They’re the ones manipulating the truth," Agares explained, thinking Erika must be affected by his current status.

"What do you mean?" Erika asked.

’It seems it’s not time for her to know the truth about me yet,’ Agares replied.

"It’s nothing. I’ll just explain to you that everything you’re accusing me of is untrue."

"Even the news about you destroying Faircallen Village is false?"

"WHAT?!" Agares shouted, startled.

"Y-Yes... they reported that you destroyed the village, raped many women, and burned down the village until nothing was left," explained Erika, looking frightened.

Agares’ hands clenched tightly, his hatred reaching its peak as he could no longer contain his anger.

Helderic and the people of Caer Vireth Castle were so cruel, they had thrown their crimes onto Agares just because he was a dangerous criminal.

"The people at Caer Vireth Castle are truly lunatics! I will kill them all!"

"No!"

"A quick death is not a suitable punishment for them!"

"I will crucify them and pierce every inch of their bodies with my sword. Then I will place their bodies on the highest place in the entire kingdom so everyone can see how shameful they are!

Agares’ face turned red with bulging eyes, his pupils reddened with veins on his temples and neck tensing from the impact of his anger.

Erika saw Agares’ strange expression and felt afraid when she was near him. However, she had to be brave because, after all, only Agares could save her.

"Agares?" Erika asked softly.

Agares’ expression of vengeance and anger slowly subsided after Erika brought him back to his senses, pulling him out of the depths of darkness filled with rage and hatred. He turned his head, clearly seeing the moment when Erika felt fear.

"What—"

"I don’t know what happened between you and them. But please focus on our problem right now. I only have you to help me out of here, " Erika interrupted, her eyes teary.

Previously, Erika always had a arrogant and angry expression on her face. But after the terrible situation that had befallen her, she threw away that attitude and began to place great hope in Agares so that the two could leave this place.

Agares was aware that he had become Erika’s only hope, her life and safety were completely in his hands. That was why he felt so responsible for Erika’s life.

"Alright."

"Nyx."

Erika gasped, her forehead wrinkling, "Nyx?"

Agares turned his head, looking to the side, directly at Erika. He asked if Erika had a map of this dungeon, and she did.

The woman patted her magic pouch and brought out a token containing a digital map of the S-level Dungeon. When Erika activated it, Agares began his turn.

"What are you doing?" asked Erika.

"Nyx."

"Copy this map and track our current location," Agares said firmly.

[I’ve found your location, Master. Do you need me to set the way back?]

Agares was silent. Actually, there was something else he wanted to do while he was here, which was to find materials for his armor and sword.

He tapped his magic bag and brought out a side quest token from Agares’ private blacksmith shop. From it, he could clearly see what materials Agares needed for his armor and sword.

"Record everything that happens to me while I’m in this dungeon on this map, including the boss rooms, boss names, and trap routes, " Agares said firmly.

"Where’s our way back?" Erika asked.

Agares smiled. He glanced sideways while keeping the system panel active. He clearly wanted to do something here that Erika might not like.

"We might have to hold off on your return," Agares replied.

"What?!"

"What do you mean?" Erika asked, annoyed.

"I have to do something, you have to come with me if you don’t want to die here!"

"In return, maybe I can try to find a tier four or five spear in this dungeon for you."

Erika shook her head, unable to understand what Agares was thinking.

"What are you really trying to do?"

"Find forge materials!"
