Chapter 37: Agares and Erika
Chapter 37: Agares and Erika
"Even without you, we can get out of here," Erika said arrogantly, crossing her arms in front of her breasts.
Erika and Nash left the boss’s room on the third floor. Surprisingly, Agares arrived on the third floor. He thought he had passed the second floor because of the sliding corridor.
Agares sighed. He sheathed his sword and followed Erika. Erika and Nash walked into the hallway that connected to the room where his members were rest and recovering.
"How did you get here? How did you get close to my family? Who are you, really?" asked Erika.
"I don’t think I need to explain it to you."
"You!"
"Enough, Erika. Anyway, he helped us. Without him, we would have had a hard time defeating that magma golem," Nash explained, stopping the argument between Erika and Agares.
Erika sighed and nodded. She realized that without Agares’ help, they might have had a hard time defeating the magma golem. Still, Erika was still curious about Agares’ identity.
’My father is a strict and firm man, my mother is always suspicious. Why did they send someone like him to save me?’ asked Erika.
"What is your adventurer level?" Erika asked Agares.
’Adventurer level? What is that?’
"About... level 13."
"Tch!"
"Just a low-class adventurer. You’re too reckless to save me. Are you trying to impress my family?" asked Erika, shocking Nash because the words were quite harsh coming from Erika’s mouth.
Agares fell silent, glancing sharply to the side with an intimidating look that frightened Erika. Erika gasped, not knowing what was going on, but Agares’ attitude felt different than before.
’Has something happened to him?’ asked Erika.
From the front, a man appeared, being carried by his teammate, a woman. He was still injured, but his condition had improved and he was able to walk steadily.
"Hey, you guys!" he greeted, waving his hand.
"Feyd?"
Nash rushed forward and checked on Feyd. The wounds from the boss fight earlier meant that Feyd had to be evacuated quickly and left the third floor boss room.
There was a simple rule that had to be known. If the adventurers came and entered, they had to defeat the floor boss to continue their journey to the next floor.
If the adventurers exit, they can skip the floor boss because the door is already open for them.
Erika tried to fight the floor boss earlier because she needed the items dropped by each floor boss, such as the Howl Core owned by Agares, which was obtained from the item dropped by the Wolf Voidbound Hound monster boss.
"How are you?" Nash asked.
"I’m good. I think I can walk further," said Feyd.
Agares arrived from the corridor and handed Feyd a HP potion, throwing it to him. Feyd’s condition was because his HP was at a moderate level, not fully recovered.
"Drink that. You’ll be a burden to the team if you don’t recover fully."
"Alright, thanks."
Erika and the others looked toward Agares. The man walked to another hallway, where he first entered this room after passing through the sharp thorn trap.
Agares was silent. It was impossible for him to get out of this place through this hallway. If they slipped, they would die.
"How strong are your hands?" asked Agares.
"We are quite strong. We are even confident that we can defeat the next floor boss," replied Erika confidently.
"There’s no need to fight the floor boss. You’re exhausted, your resources are depleted."
The man stepped toward Erika with a stern face. Erika gasped, acting cautiously while holding the handle of her spear, ready.
"Rope."
"What?"
"Rope. I need rope," explained Agares.
"I have some."
A woman came and handed Agares a long rope. Agares nodded, wondering what the priest was doing with the rope.
Agares tied the rope tightly to his sword. He was sure the blade wouldn’t break easily since it was a tier four sword.
Erika saw what Agares was doing and laughed loudly, mocking his stupid plan.
"Are you stupid? That sword won’t be strong enough to hold our weight," Erika responded.
"Sigh!"
The man turned to look at Nash, Erika’s adventuring friend. The two stared at each other.
"I’m impressed you can put up with all this damn woman’s nonsense!" Agares sneered.
"What did you say?!" Erika shouted.
Just as Erika was about to thrust her spear forward, Agares raised his sword and blocked it with force.
Due to his overwhelming strength, Erika’s spear split into two, leaving the woman in shock.
"What...?"
"Don’t make me kill you."
Everyone watched. The sword Agares wielded emitted a strong black-purple light. Nash approached them again, separating Agares and Erika.
Nash was truly confused by their behavior. What had happened to them before that made them hate each other so much?
"Can you two stop fighting? It’s sickening!" Nash complained.
Agares smiled grimly. He pulled out his sword and stepped away from Erika. The man returned to the hallway with his sword tied to a strong rope.
Feyd and the others followed Agares. They finally arrived at the sharp thorn trap in front of them, with a sliding hallway before the trap.
"What are you going to do, sir?"
He was silent as he took a deep breath. Through his mind, he channeled the dark energy from his body into the sword he was holding. This caused Agares’ sword to glow blackish purple.
Agares’ eyes opened, emitting a purple light. His ability to control darkness had reached the point of manipulation.
This was thanks to the change in Agares’ race—he had become a demi-demon.
With great force, he threw the sword upward, sticking it firmly into the wall at the end of the steep hallway.
Feyd and the others were amazed and applauded, never thinking they could do such a thing.
"Just hold on to the rope, you’ll be fine."
"Okay."
Feyd was the first to go. He grabbed the rope and tried to pull it, but the sword was very strong and helped them climb up.
"This rope is very strong, so is that sword."
"Hurry up and climb up. I want to get out of here as soon as possible."
One by one, the members of Erika’s adventuring party climbed up the rope in turns. Feyd and two other team members were already up, leaving Erika, Nash, and Agares below.
"Go ahead, Lady Erika."
"You go first, Nash. I have something to talk to him about," explained Erika.
Nash remained silent, then turned to Agares. He asked the man not to act recklessly and endanger Erika’s life.
After all, Erika was the daughter of a city noble; injuring her intentionally could have serious consequences.
Agares nodded, agreeing to do so as long as Erika was kind to him. Nash felt relieved to leave the two below.
"You’re not an adventurer. Am I right?" Erika asked softly.
"Are you judging my strength by how I destroyed your spear?"
"A level 13 adventurer wouldn’t be able to do that. I also saw clearly that you channeled your affinity power into your sword, increasing its strength."
"Who are you really?" Erika asked, staring intently ahead.
Agares remained silent, then smiled slightly as he turned his head to the side, looking at Erika who seemed curious about his identity. But it wasn’t time for her to know who Agares really was.
"There’s no time to talk. Sir Casper Thorn is waiting anxiously for you at his residence."
"You have to go home immediately!"
"I won’t go back until you answer my question."
"Tch!"
"Damn woman."
The man tapped his magic pouch and pulled out another sword, the one he had used before the Light of Ocean.
He always kept it in his magic pouch, just in case he needed it again someday.
"You’re really annoying! I shouldn’t have saved you back then," Agares complained.
"Are you going to kill me? Do it quickly! The Thorn family won’t let you live."
"I don’t care!"
"I’m being hunted by the Great Empire. What can the Thorn family do? I can kill them all easily!" Agares shouted.
"The Great Empire? A sword? Don’t tell me you’re—"
"Yes. If you really want to know, I’m the one they’re after!"
"I’m Agares!"
