Chapter 28: The Thorn Family and the Demon Clan
After paying the money, the two soldiers hurriedly left them. Agares breathed a sigh of relief, turned around, and saw the blonde-haired girl still standing there, staring at him in awe.
"Woah, are you an adventurer, sir?" asked the girl, curious.
Agares nodded, it was much better to say he was an adventurer than to mention his saber. It seemed that no one knew Agares’ true identity.
They were too busy with matters in the city that they forgot to memorize Agares’ face.
"Do you want to come with me, sir?"
"Where?"
"To my house."
Agares smiled. He crouched down in front of the girl with a big smile, he didn’t have time to visit her house. That was because Agares had other business at the Thorn family residence.
"Maybe next time. I have to visit my friend first," explained Agares.
After hearing Agares’ words, the girl couldn’t argue. She watched the man leave her alone in the city center. Still, the girl’s attention was still focused on Agares.
’It’s better to leave her. I don’t want to drag anyone else into my problems. That’s because I’m a Saber,’ explained Agares.
The girl’s eyes widened, her pupils dilating. Her heart raced so fast that her hands reflexively dropped the piece of bread she had been holdingall this time.
"Saber?" the girl whispered, her face shocked.
That’s right! The girl wasn’t an ordinary girl, she was a descendant of an ancient mythological race that had survived to this day. One of her unique abilities was reading minds.
She could read a person’s mind by focusing her attention for a few seconds. That way, she could know what a person was thinking.
Hearing that Agares was a Saber knight made the girl excited. She remembered her parents telling her that Saber knights were the kindest knights to other mythological races.
"Saber?"
Out of curiosity, the girl secretly followed Agares. Luckily for her, Agares did not have the ability to detect auras or presence. That kept the girl safe while she was following Agares.
Agares stopped walking. He looked up and saw a magnificent residences with dozens of windows inside.
The building had at least five floors, but Agares did not know what each floor was used for.
Agares’ mysterious arrival caught the attention of two guards at the gate. One of them stepped forward and asked his purpose.
Agares showed them the Thorn Family’s noble token. Both of them looked shocked, not knowing who Agares was and never having seen him before.
"How did you get the Thorn Family’s noble token?"
"Tell the head of the Thorn family. Madame Louise has come with a message," said Agares firmly, answering nothing else.
Feeling suspicious about the strange situation, one of them stepped into the Thorn family residence.
He went up to the fifth floor and entered the office of the head of the Thorn family, Casper Thorn.
"What? Madame Louise sent a message?" asked Casper Thorn, confirmed by the soldier.
"Who is Madame Louise?" asked Natalya Thorn, Casper Thorn’s wife and Erika Thorn’s mother.
"Only the heir to the Thorn family head is allowed to know who Madame Louise is."
"That’s why you, Leon, and Erika have never heard that name," said Casper.
"She also brought the Thorn Noble Token, sir."
"I understand," replied Casper.
He firmly ordered the soldier to let Agares enter and to serve him well, making sure the Thorn family didn’t look bad in front of Madam Louise’s envoy.
The soldier stepped away from the room. Now, only Casper and Natalya remained in the room.
Natalya got up and stood in front of Casper’s desk, very curious about Madam Louise’s identity.
"I can’t tell you now. When the time is right, I will explain everything to you," replied Casper.
"Is she your mistress?"
"Of course not. What do you mean by that? She’s just someone running a brothel in Hurdor City," explained Casper.
Hearing that Madame Louise was the owner of a brothel made Natalya even more suspicious and angry. Her eyes stared intently ahead, trying to uncover the secret Casper was hiding from her.
"A brothel? Why did you go there? Oh, lately you’ve been going to Hurdor City all the time. Is that also to visit that damn whore?"
"What?! Of course not, what are you thinking?"
While Casper and Natalya were arguing with each other, there was a knock on Casper’s office door. It was Agares, who came with the two gate guards.
Casper and Natalya’s attention was distracted. He looked to the side and saw that it wasn’t Louise who had come, but a mysterious man in a black robe.
"You? Are you Madam Louise’s envoy?" asked Casper, pointing forward.
Agares nodded slowly, "Louise gave me the Thorn Noble Token. She said that you must protect me."
"Protect you? Who are you?"
Agares was silent. He closed the door and locked it. Slowly, Agares walked forward and removed his right glove, revealing a red saber pattern.
"A saber pattern? You are Agares?!" Natalya was shocked.
Natalya did not remain silent. She brought out her magic and directed her attack forward. Agares quickly drew his sword and swung it upward, splitting the attack in two.
An explosion happened, causing the office to become a mess. Casper gasped, he could clearly see that something was different about Agares, especially his strength and affinity.
"You?! How dare you fight me?!" Natalya snapped.
Casper arrived between them, separating the fight. The man turned, asking Agares with sharp, serious eyes.
"Tell me, what is your affinity?" Casper asked.
"Darkness."
"HAHA! Only a criminal like you deserves such a terrible affinity," Natalya replied, angering Agares.
Unlike Casper, he knew what it meant. An affinity for darkness was very rare, or even unheard of. If Agares had it, then Prince Kael’s prophecy was definitely true.
"Prince Kael’s prophecy is true. The rise of the Demon Clan is certain," said Casper firmly, laughing loudly, leaving Agares and Natalya confused.
"What are you talking about?" asked Natalya, but Casper did not respond.
Instead, he stepped closer to Agares and patted the man’s shoulder gently with pride and joy.
Shocking! Casper knelt down to pay his respects to Agares, surprising Natalya.
"What are you—"
"I, Casper Thorn, swear on my life and my family’s, that I will help and protect you until the time comes for your ascension to the throne," Casper explained.
"What are you saying?" Agares asked.
"You don’t know, sir?"
Agares shook his head. That was enough to confuse Casper, especially since Agares had already met Madame Louise. Could it be that Louise hadn’t told Agares anything?
’Better wait for further instructions. I mustn’t act rashly,’ Casper explained.
Casper smiled and stood up, gazing at Agares firmly.
"You are more than welcome here, Agares."
"Welcome to the Thorn family."
