Chapter 406: Justify Her Own Action

Days passed by and a lot had happened inside the palace of Valcrez since their arrival from Ebodia. Aside from Abel’s sudden appearances just to annoy her, Dani became very busy making sure they had covered all bases and had prepared everything, securing the palace to ensure the Queen’s safety inside.

They couldn’t let their guard down especially when they knew that a snake like Rosela was still around posing a threat. It turned out that just like the Queen had predicted, Rosela made a stupidly bold move, trying to frame the Queen for murder. Although Rosela failed miserably as she was no match against the Queen’s wits and wisdom, it showed that there were still people trying to harm the Queen. They were glad that Roselia’s future days would be spent in dungeons and facing trials in court.

"She’s done for sure," Dani remarked as she monitored Abel’s movements. She knew that Abel would not remain idle for too long. That man would surely try to rescue Rosela and probably take her away.

Today, she spent most of her time outside the entrance to the dungeon knowing Abel would find a way to visit Rosela at any cost. They had cast a powerful spell protecting the dungeons so no one would be able to enter it in their mist form except the King.

"Tsk, he’s really a fool," Dani muttered as she watched Abel make his way towards the dungeon.

"It’s a good thing I cast a spell on him," Dani added as she followed him. "Stop right there and come with me," Dani commanded, using the spell to stop him before Abel could get near the entrance.

"I knew this would happen," Dani hissed, walking ahead and standing in front of him. "Hah! It’s a good thing I had the outside of the dungeons’ entrance under surveillance!"

Dani frowned as Abel simply stared at her. Like her, he too was frowning. She could guess how conflicted he was right now.

"Tell me, what are you planning to do?!" she demanded, still using the spell to confirm if Abel was indeed here to help Rosela escape.

"I want to see Rosela and talk to her," Abel replied. "I’m not sure what to do, but I’m thinking of helping her escape and giving her a new life far away where no one can find us."

"You really are a fool, aren’t you? Don’t you realize that helping her will also kill you," Dani pointed out with a frown. "I guess you’re so blinded by your love for that good-for-nothing woman that you’re ready to sacrifice your own life for her."

She let out a sigh before pulling out a piece of reflective stone from her pocket. It was a magical stone which could record one particular event and be used to play it for everyone to view.

Mineah had used it to record her conversation with Rosela which turned out to be the best decision as Rosela had confessed her wrongdoings.

Mineah had let Dani protect that piece of evidence so she always carried it with her. She was feeling conflicted, she hoped that maybe showing the evidence to Abel would somehow make him change his mind. Since he was under the control of her spell, Dani was confident that showing it to Abel would not jeopardize the safety of the stone.

Releasing the reflective stone in her possession, she said, "How about I let you watch this so you’ll know what kind of a woman she is? This is a special relic that can store a specific event. A while ago, our Queen had carried it with her when she visited Rosela to record what she said and use it as evidence for Rosela’s crimes..."

Abel narrowed his eyes as a white cloud appeared in front of them. From there, he watched the entire conversation between Mineah and Rosela. His face paled as he saw what exactly happened.

"No... But why... Why would she confess all this to Her Majesty so easily?" Abel thought aloud.

It didn’t make any sense. If Rosela truly did what she said she did to her sister, then why would she spill the beans to Mineah knowing she could just tell Nikolai about it?

Dani had the same doubt but she didn’t dare question Mineah about it. What mattered to her was the evidence she held against Rosela. Her face crumpled when she saw Abel having a hard time believing what he just saw.

"I honestly don’t know how that happened as well, but that’s not the point here! Someone like her who stooped so low that she killed her own sister has no conscience. Her obsession with the King is too much, and it’d be better if she just disappeared before she hurt everyone else around her," Dani hissed at him.

"She’s toxic, delusional, and won’t stop at anything to get what she wants! She will not change even if you take her away with you. She’ll only bide time and plan her next move, so wake up, you fool!"

"You... How dare you call me a fool!?"

Dani blinked at him and said, "I’ve already told you. The only way I’ll apologize for calling you a fool is if you stop acting like one. So get used to being called a fool!"

She then shook her head and murmured, "You can thank me later for saving your life from that vile woman, Chancellor. Be grateful that I performed the Thrall Chaining Spell to stop you because you would’ve surely wasted your life following a woman like her if I hadn’t."

What she was doing was very out of character. Even Dani could not explain why she was acting like this, like cared enough about this Chancellor to interfere in his love life. Why would she give a damn if Abel wanted to throw his life away for that woman? It wasn’t like she was connected to this Chancellor.

But she simply couldn’t help it...

"Go back to your residence and stay there. Don’t do anything to help Rosela. Focus on your work as a Chancellor instead!" Dani commanded. "Be a just and righteous official for this kingdom. Stop being biased because of your love for a vile woman. Don’t waste your life saving her. In fact, don’t even think of Rosela, she’s not worth anything! Go and leave now!"

Predictably, Abel’s body moved against his will. "You! You will pay for this!" he threatened her. "As soon as this spell wears off, I’ll definitely get back at you for this, Lady Dani!"

"Oh, I’m so scared Chancellor!" Dani laughed at him, ignoring his threat. Dani didn’t go back but instead quietly followed Abel back to his residence, making sure he was home.

"This feels weird... Why am I doing this?" Dani muttered to herself as she decided to leave. She couldn’t understand why she was exerting so much time and energy to check the Chancellor’s whereabouts.

"I’m invading his personal life... But it’s only because he’s trying to help a murderer escape!" She talked to herself, trying to justify her own actions.
