Chapter 407: Best Spell
Chapter 407: Best Spell
The trial took place and it could be said that it ended somewhat successfully but on a tragic note. Rosela ended up losing her life before she could receive her punishment. Her life ended because of the dark spell cast around her. It looks like she said something that she wasn’t supposed to say, taking her life away in a flash, leaving all of them stunned.
"We need to further investigate this matter, Zoran. "What killed Rosela was the result of the powerful dark spell cast on her before the trial," Dani analyzed, as she looked at Rosela’s dead body. King Nikolai allowed her and Zaila to check on Rosela’s body before the burial.
Zoran was obviously someone very powerful if he was capable of sneaking into the dungeons without anyone knowing.
"Look at this," Zaila pointed out a mark on Rosela’s back. "It’s no wonder he easily penetrated the dungeons. It’s because he and Rosela had a contract. Rosela is nothing but his medium."
Dani nodded.
"Are you all done now?"
She flinched at Abel’s familiar voice. "Can we at least let the dead be in peace?" Abel added with a serious tone.
"Be at peace? Oh, I hope her twin Dahlia will be at pea-" Zaila quickly halted upon Dani’s sharp gaze.
Zahlia shrugged and murmured, "We’re finished here."
Dani looked at Abel and said, "We’ll leave now," before pulling Zaila with her.
"Why did you stop me? It’s not like I was saying something wrong. That woman murdered her own sister! She might not be the one to drain Dahlia’s blood but she’s definitely the one who planned it all! And this Abel is telling us to let her rest in peace? Ugh, is there even peace in hell? Because I’m sure that Rosela went straight there," Zaila annoyingly muttered.
"Let’s just be more understanding. The man is blinded by love," Dani mumbled with a sigh.
Zaila stopped walking to face Dani. She raised her brow as she scoffed, "Since when did you become so thoughtful about the Chancellor? The last time I checked, you were vexed by the man."
"Let’s just go. It’s almost time for our meeting with the Queen," Dani deflected and continued walking, pulling Zaila along. She was honestly confused about her feelings and emotions towards the Chancellor. She just probably pitied him for loving the wrong person.
’Right, that’s just it...’ she mused.
Dani and Zaila went straight to Mineah’s bedchamber.
Once they entered, Mineah told them that Abel would be handling Rosela’s remains. "He’s the benefactor of the Benett Family so it’s only natural for him to get involved in this. Nikolai has allowed him to do it."
Dani remained quiet. She actually hid the truth about Abel trying to meet Rosela and possibly helping the woman escape from all of them. She prevented it from happening anyway so she didn’t see the point of reporting it. Also knowing her comrades, she was sure they would watch Abel with more scrutiny.
Dani was confident that she alone was enough to keep an eye on him. She knew in the back of her mind that Abel wouldn’t do anything to harm the Queen or be disloyal to the King. He was just simply protecting that woman.
Dani’s face soured just the thought of Rosela but then realized that she shouldn’t bother with her anymore as she was dead and had paid for her sins.
"Now that everything about Rosela is settled, we can be more at ease. It’s now time to call Laura back..." Mineah commented.
"Yes!" Krisha cheered and Dani smiled. She too had been missing Laura who was staying outside the palace.
"The National Civil Examination is nearing so I want someone to meet with Laura outside and give her this magical purse. Everything she’ll need is inside, "Mineah informed as she held out the magical purse and placed it on the table.
"I’ll do it!" Dani quickly volunteered.
"But you have so many duties inside the palace Dani. I should do it," Krisha commented with a pout.
"I... I have some personal matters to discuss with Laura," she lied. The only reason she volunteered to do it was because... she actually wanted to check on Abel after he settled everything with Rosela’s burial. And one good way was asking the man out for a drink...
"I need to see Laura so I’ll handle this matter," she firmly stated and quickly grabbed the purse on the table.
"Oh right, I have to go now. I’ll send Laura a parchment about our meeting," Dani said and quickly got up, excusing herself before the Queen. She knew that if she didn’t, Krisha and Zaila would insist on doing this task and meeting Laura.
While walking back to her own bedchamber, Dani wondered if Abel would agree to go with her if she offered him a drink and be his drinking partner.
"Right, I owe him at least this... Since I still manipulated him against his own will using the spell I cast on him, the least I can do is share his misery and be his drinking partner," she murmured to herself.
She was already inside her bedchamber but her mind still wandered about Abel.
"Is he crying now? Do vampires even cry?" she mumbled as she slipped inside the comfort of her quilt. She couldn’t picture someone like Chancellor Abel crying.
Dani abruptly shook her head and hissed, "Ah, what is wrong with me? Why am I even thinking about that gray-haired vampire?!"
Then Dani unknowingly touched her lips as she recalled how she cast the Thrall Chaining Spell on him. She used her lips...
"It doesn’t count as my first kiss, right? No! That’s absolutely not the case!" she annoyingly murmured. She then moved and buried her face on the pillow.
Something weird was happening to her and she wondered if it was the side effect of the Thrall Chaining Spell. Her connection with Abel seemed to be getting stronger by the minute. She simply performed the spell and succeeded by luck but she was honestly not that well versed about the effects of it and even its validity. All she knew was it was the best spell she could use against Abel during that time.
She had become so busy that she didn’t have time to check the details about the spell she used. Right, she must check it soon as there was no way she would have these foreign feelings for that Chancellor if not because of the spell. She was sure it was nothing but a side effect of the spell!
