Chapter 396: Diplomatic Talks
"You know, do you think our friends will have normal babies or not?"
Dani almost did a double take as she heard Zaila’s random question out of the blue. They were currently both busy working on their respective duties and granted, it could get a bit dull especially with there being nothing of note in regards to any life threatening or pressing issue that counted as an emergency. They were just there, simply keeping the kingdom moving along with their work.
"What kind of question is that?" Dani dubiously asked.
"Well, they’re both married to vampires," Zaila pointed out with a curious tone. "Krisha’s baby will surely be a half vampire, but what about Her Majesty’s? She’s half angel while also being married to a vampire."
Dani couldn’t help but sigh even as she allowed her mind to start thinking about the scenario being presented to her. "I’d... I guess the baby will be half vampire too?"
"That’s already a given though. What I’m talking about is if the baby would be born with more human or angel in them," Zaila insisted with a chuckle. "Do you think they’ll be the former or the latter?"
"I don’t know..." Dani groaned in exasperation. "Why even ask that? Does it even matter?"
"It matters to me," Zaila whined. "Come on. Aren’t you at least curious about it?"
Dani sighed as she turned around to face her procrastinating friend. They still had a lot of work to do, and yet here they were wasting time about hypotheticals.
"Fine then. I’d say the baby will be half vampire and two quarters human and angel respectively," she pointedly answered. "There, happy?"
"But that’s too logical though," Zaila pouted.
"Hey, you were the one that wanted answers," Dani shrugged. "Now let’s get back to work."
"Ugh... But it’s boring though," her friend groaned back.
"Just be glad that things are actually boring," Dani pointed out with a sigh. "It means nothing’s happening that needs our utmost attention."
"That also means there’s more time for us to think about our futures and all that," Zaila fired back with a smirk. "And speaking of which, when are you going to get pregnant?"
Once again, Dani almost let out a cough at the random question being thrown at her. On top of embarrassing her enough that it made her blush, just thinking about getting pregnant... with her husband no less...
"T-That’s none of your concern," she stammered out, doing her best to maintain her composure.
"But it is though," Zaila grinned. "We’re friends, right? And surely, Her Majesty and rest are also waiting with excitement for when you finally pop the news regarding your love life."
"You really want to play this game, Zaila?" Dani scoffed. "At least I’m not the one that’s still single."
This time, it was Zaila that was put on the backfoot as Dani fired back at her annoying yet endearing friend. Not that she wanted to rub in the fact that she was already married despite said marriage being more confusing than it should be, but her hand was forced by Zaila’s constant teasing.
"If I remember, you’re still picking between three candidates, right? Lord Gregory, Admiral Sixto, and Minister Milo?" Dani attacked further with a smug grin. "Why, those are pretty good options, so why are you still stuck picking between them?"
"W-Why is that your concern?" Zaila weakly rebutted. "It’s not my fault that they’re all handsome and good marriage choices."
Dani rolled her eyes at Zaila’s quick surrender. Truly, her friend was good at teasing, but she was half as good at taking the teasing right back if her chosen victim decided to fight back. She might be prepared for some of them, but pushing the right buttons just made her friend back down without even much of a fight.
"A-Anyway, what do you think of King Ezekiel’s plan?" Zaila quickly followed up, changing the topic to something more political. "Something about conducting some kind of global summit?"
Letting out a small scoff of victory, Dani raised a brow as she allowed the change in topic to occur. It was about something that remotely affected their jobs, after all, which meant that it wouldn’t be too embarrassing to talk about.
"It can work, but it’ll need a lot of planning to even come into fruition," Dani replied after a few seconds of deep thought. "Maybe a year or so of planning is needed to throw together an event of that magnitude. Could be even less if the planning committee knew what they were doing."
"Well, it was said that the Sorel Guild will be doing all that," Zaila recalled. "They’ll be acting as the neutral party to facilitate talks with all of the kingdoms. It’ll also be done on their grounds, and that they’ll only take around nine months or so of planning."
"Then that’s that," Dani shrugged. "It’s already settled. I just hope that it’ll all work out in the end."
"I hope so too," Zaila hummed in agreement. "It’s going to be the first of its kind, so if it’s going to be a success, then it’ll pave the way for more of its kind to take place."
"Like some kind of yearly gathering then," she stated, finishing the thought for her friend. "It’ll be a good thing for everyone in general, and everyone will be able to talk things out in a regular and orderly manner too, on top of facilitating diplomatic talks and all that."
"You’re really thinking too much like a politician sometimes, you know?" Zaila pointed out with a soft chuckle.
"It’s part of our jobs, Zaila," she replied with a smile. "And speaking of jobs, we should get back to it."
"For once, I actually agree," her friend giggled. "That’s more than enough lazing around for today, I think."
And with that, the two returned to what they were supposed to be doing. Well, whatever happened, Dani was sure that they would all get through with little problems. And even if something happens, they’ll be sure to tackle things together one step at a time.
