Chapter 292: Chronicles of the Fallen Angels
It was Krisha who came back first to Valcrez. She was then followed by Zaila. The two then accompanied Mineah during her visits to the provinces to let Niran have a few days of rest.
"Do we really have to have them be in our entourage?" Zaila complained, her eyes landing on the group of ladies that just left them to get their meals. "They’re an eyesore."
"That’s politics," Krisha shrugged. "Just bear with them. It’ll be over soon."
Throughout this, Mineah remained quiet as she simply observed. She was currently seated with the two shadow maidens, and they were all talking in their secret language while they ate their own meals.
She and Nikolai had decided to let these ladies like Jane and Diane from Wagner Clans, together with some others to continue being with her during her visit throughout the provinces. It was also good for her in that it would allow her to build some connections with each of the powerful clans if she allowed their ladies to come with her.
"I’m sorry that your honeymoon had to be cut short though," Mineah apologized to Krisha as she grabbed her hand and gently squeezed it. "In such short notice too." She really felt bad for her friend that she was unable to do something to extend Taro’s vacation to be with her more.
Krisha’s face reddened as she bashfully shook her head. "It’s really fine, Milady. Taro and I already had a wonderful time together, and I believe this current set-up we have isn’t that bad," she sincerely stated. "I mean, being married hasn’t honestly sunk into me just yet. I feel like I still have more to do before proceeding to have my own family."
Zaila clicked her tongue and snorted. "Why let Taro mark you in haste then if you’re still not ready? Goodness, how naive can you be?" she grumbled. "You two already did the deed too, and who knows if you actually ended up getting pregnant first before Her Majesty? Al-"
"I like Taro, so I don’t regret everything I did with him, but I must admit that everything happened very quickly between us," Krisha scoffed, cutting Zaila off as she gave her a pointed glare.
"Anyway, so what if I got pregnant? I have you to help me take care of the baby while Taro is away. And besides, don’t you know that my husband has the ability to appear in my dreams like His Majesty?" She let out another scoff as she boasted, "Seriously, even if we’re not physically together, we’re still able to see each other in my dreams."
"Ughh... What if you ended up not dreaming in your sleep then?" Zaila snorted. "Anyway, I guess it’s just me and Laura now who are still allowed to play around."
Mineah chuckled as she watched the two banter. She unknowingly touched her own belly wondering when she would be blessed to be of child too. Just a moment ago, a piece of good news came from her sister Xenia. She was pregnant and Xenia was so happy to hear that good news. She was going to be an Aunt soon!
"I think you’ll be last to marry, Zaila. You’re picky," Krisha pointed out, making Zaila’s face soured. Krisha only laughed and Mineah shook her head as she also smiled. Right, Laura and Zaila were the only singles left. But then Laura seemed to be too focused on her own goal and achieving her dreams.
MIneah almost forgot about Dani. She lost track of the day already. So she interrupted the conversation and asked, "Will Dani and Abel be arriving today?"
"Yes, milady. I believe they’re already in the palace by now," Zaila informed her. "They’re required to return as soon as possible too since Chancellor Abel has a lot of pending work to attend to."
"We should put Dani to work this instant. What do you say Krisha? It’s only fair that you have a companion... Let Dani be very busy." Zaila jokingly suggested.
"Hah! Try that if you can. Do you think that Chancellor will not meddle?" Krisha snorted. "I’m curious though..." Zaila mumbled.
"What?!" Krisha asked. Zaila gave her a timid smile and murmured, "I wonder who will get pregnant first. Her Majesty, Niran, or you?" Zaila gave Jrisha that teasing look as she added, "Who knows, maybe Taro is like a beast. We witnessed how fast he was beforehand. Maybe he’s also fast in getting you pregnant!"
Krisha’s face turned crimson red and Zaila chuckled. Mineah couldn’t help chuckling too.
"Ah, can we just change the topic?!" Krisha muttered in surrender.
"How are Dahlia and Zoran doing then?" Mineah further asked upon Krisha’s request for a change of topic. She became so busy that she hadn’t seen the two for a while now.
"Ah, those two lovebirds... They’re enjoying each moment they have together," Zaila reported with a shrug. "Luis and Marlo are closely monitoring the two, and so far, there’s nothing suspicious going on with Zoran."
Mineah nodded. It would seem that for now, Zoran was content with not making a move that would favor Devon. Still, she knew he would have to do something for Demon King soon even if it was against his will. That was what she read through his mind before. The man had no choice but to act as Devon’s spy inside the palace and wait for further instructions.
It was something that they already put into their calculations anyway. She would have to ask Nikolai later if they could have a casual tea gathering with Zoran and Dahlia so that she could check for updates regarding Zoran and Devon.
In other news, she had also been analyzing a few things lately, mostly thinking about Tarah’s vision regarding Zoran and her involvement. She also had a hunch that she would try something to save Zoran since that was her sole intention right now, especially since she read in the man’s thoughts that he had no intentions of harming anyone at all.
If worst comes to worst, Zoran was willing to sacrifice himself not just for Dahlia, but for Nikolai as well. He would rather have Devon take his life than bring harm to everyone in Valcrez.
With those thoughts in mind, Mineah went and continued with her duty to her people. She took her time to learn more about each province, and by the time she was finished, it was already getting dark out. She didn’t stay in an inn for the night however since Nikolai had already picked her up and carried her back to the palace.
"Did Aunt Alexa and Cian find something?" Mineah asked as she and Nikolai went to the library hall before making their way to where the secret chambers were located.
"I believe so since they want to talk to us," Nikolai remarked as she held his hand while they opened one of the secret chambers. Inside, Aunt Alexa and Cian were already waiting for them. The two were casually sipping on their drinks while flipping through a few pages of their respective books, both of them sitting opposite from one another.
Mineah smiled as they entered. She couldn’t help but adore the two as they seemed to be engrossed in whatever it was they were reading.
"Come here, Nikolai," Aunt Alexa said, her eyes still glued to the page she was reading. "Look at this."
Nodding, Mineah and Nikolai walked up to her and stared at the page that she was pointing at.
"The first fallen angel knew all kinds of curses from heaven. Specifically, he knew what exactly would befall their kind as they live on earth and the corresponding solutions to lift them," Alexa read aloud. "The heavens allowed the first fallen angel to create a guide about these things on earth because of His Almighty’s grace and mercy for them. That, and those innocent were just bound to be born from these fallen angels."
"Could it be the Chronicles of the Fallen Angels that Devon stole from the Kingdom of Bethel then?" Mineah questioned.
"There’s a high possibility of that being true," Cian commented. "Up until now, there were no books written pertaining to fallen angels except for that one book."
"I must get that book no matter what then," Nikolai muttered. He then addressed Mineah through their bond, [I must help your brother in this mission, Mine.]
She inwardly frowned. She was against Ezekiel’s so-called mission since it just looked like a suicide mission with her brother attempting to penetrate Devon’s territory alone. Also, Tarah had been vocal in saying that she didn’t feel good about this specific plan.
[Looks like Zoran will have a purpose in his stay here then,] Nikolai further remarked. [He will surely know Devon’s palace well...]
[But what if it’s a trap?] Mineah pointed out.
[You can always read Zoran’s thoughts, Mine,] Nikolai pointed out. [We always have an advantage regardless of the situation.]
Mineah fidgeted at the response she got. Despite it all, she felt really weary about all this...
