The Crown's Seduction
Chapter 291: Try Our Best

Chapter 291: Try Our Best

Zoran frowned, seeing Dahlia’s eyes welled up with tears.

"I guess you didn’t listen in through the bangle when Seer Tarah shared everything about the vision that day," Dahlia weakly muttered.

Zoran’s frown deepened. Dahlia already told him about how Queen Mineah asked for Ebodia’s Seer to check if a vision would come once she touched Dahlia. They were trying their best to look for ways to help him and Zoran truly appreciated their kind gestures. Yet, he could already tell that whatever this vision was something not good because of how Dahlia was reacting now.

He purposely cut off his spell connection to hear her with the bangle because he had been inside of Devon’s territory. He had decided that he would only activate the spell whenever he was in a safe location. He was fortunate enough that one night, he was able to hear Dahlia’s words, saying how she missed him and even cursing him for not being able to see her.

Hearing her was enough to risk casting a protective spell with the bangle connected to him, for him to just feel and know whenever Dahlia was in danger. He stored enough energy in that bangle to make sure she would be protected enough from any harm that came her way.

He got up and moved to sit beside her as he quickly pulled her into his embrace. He didn’t know what to feel at that moment. But he knew one thing was for sure, he didn’t want to see Dahlia crying because of him. Making her cry was the last thing he ever wanted to do.

"Shh... Don’t you know that not all visions that come to a Seer are accurate? Especially to an Ebodian Seer. I’m a stranger to Ebodia. A fated Seer of Ebodia usually only has accurate visions involving Ebodia and its people. I’m no Ebodian, so there’s a high chance that the vision of this Seer Tarah will not even happen." Zoran reasoned because that was a known fact.

"I know that, yet you can’t deny the fact that there’s also a high possibility for this to take place, Zoran. I know how things work with Seers... This is an opportunity for us to change the fate that has been ordained on you. I will not let you die because of me. You... Y-you a-already s-sacrificed t-too much because o-of m-me..." Dahlia stammered as she struggled to deliver her words while sobbing. Zoran gulped as he buried his nose into her thick blonde hair, inhaling her refreshing feminine scent.

He was able to find comfort in her warmth like this. He felt his heart swell with the weight of Dahlia’s deep love for him. It was his dream come true, and he couldn’t help but cry as well.

Dahlia broke their embrace and wiped her tears before staring at him and lovingly leaned closer to give his lips a chaste kiss. She then wiped away the tears running down his cheeks.

"Stop crying, you will not die under my watch," Dahlia protectively said. Zoran chuckled as he pinched her nose and said, "It’s not about that, darling. I’m crying because I never thought that this day would come, a day when I would truly feel loved by you."

She looked so adorable, now flustered by what he had said, that Zoran couldn’t help but lean closer and kiss her cheeks. He ended up doing more as he peppered her with kisses on her face. If only Dahlia knew how much he was dying to have her, but Zoran had to restrain himself now more than ever.

He didn’t want to taint her purity, knowing one day he would end up leaving her. How could he be so selfish? But he knew, deep down inside of him, a majority was screaming for him to be selfish.

"Zoran, I want to be yours," Dahlia whispered in his ear, making his body stiffen. He was speechless... He didn’t know what to say to that. He badly wanted her too. Hell, he was never greedy for anything before. It has been enough for him to see Dahlia alive and happy, he didn’t even care for his own life and wanted for nothing...

However, lately, he could feel this greed inside of him building up. The greed of how he wanted to live more to be with her... how he wanted to spend a lifetime with her. But he knew that was impossible because his days were numbered.

"Zoran, please say something. I don’t want to have any regrets. I want to live my life to the fullest and spend each day with you as if it were my last. Could you not do the same? Just be selfish for yourself, just this once." Dahlia muttered as she sobbed on his chest.

He smiled at how bold his dear Dahlia had become in such a short time. Maybe she was right? Maybe it was alright to be selfish and for him to enjoy every moment with her without any inhibitions.

"Look at you, I can still recall how you used to blush in embarrassment from simply being near each other, or from those accidental brushes of skin. And now you’re offering yourself to me. Aren’t you afraid that this calm man could turn into a ravenous beast and just eat you alive?" He humorously stated as he tried to ease the tension between them.

If he were to make her his, Zoran would do things properly, because Dahlia was someone he had so much respect for. She was someone who deserved only the best. And he wanted to always give her the best he could give.

"Will you be my wife Dahlia, and marry me? I don’t intend to just make you my woman. I want you to become my wife in the eyes of the heavens and the law." He lovingly murmured. But then it was followed by a deep sigh as he added, "But right now, I don’t belong to any kingdom’s law to register our marriage."

"That’s not a problem Zoran. I’m a legal Valcrezian, we can even proceed with the marriage at this moment. Nikolai will facilitate it, upon my request and have us legally wedded according to Valcrez’s laws for its human citizens." Dahlia excitedly explained with glowing eyes. Just seeing those smiles on her face that reached her eyes were treasures. And with that, he couldn’t help but feel sad because of the reality that he was about to face.

Zoran released a sigh and with a disheartened voice said, "Look at you looking so excited about this. But Dahlia... you must ready yourself for any possibility. My life is still in Devon’s hands, and I could vanish by your side at any moment, with just a snap of his fingers."

He needed to always remind Dahlia of this fact because he wanted to prepare her for the worst. Dahlia was a strong woman, so he was sure she could move forward without him. That was what he wanted her to do once that day came. Zoran bit his inner cheek, the thought of it was too painful. He could feel that stabbing pain inside his chest.

Dahlia’s face turned gloomy as she scolded, "Must you remind me about it like that? Can we not just avoid talking about it and not allow the negativity to take over our time together?" She turned away from him and crossed her arms.

Zoran didn’t like it whenever she was angry, so out of instinct he hugged her from behind and whispered, "I am sorry. Please don’t be mad at me anymore." How he really hope he could stay like this forever

Dahlia turned back towards him and with a serious face remarked, "Promise me that you’ll no longer talk about dying. We’ll survive this together, Zoran. The two of us must strive to have a good life together. I know that we shouldn’t rely on King Nikolai or Queen Mineah, but I trust them, and I trust that they’ll do everything in their capacity to help us. But that doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t do our part in changing our fate."

Dahlia cupped his face as she stared at him intently without breaking eye contact. She gently caressed his cheek with her warm palm as she convincingly said, "Let’s take that vision of Seer Tarah as a warning so we have an advantage to prevent it. I know things are easier said than done. But we still must still do our best Zoran. Promise me that we’ll at least try our best, please. I can’t lose you."

Zoran nodded and once again lovingly pulled her into his arms for a hug. "I love you so much Dahlia and I will do anything for you," he whispered. He was the happiest man on earth whenever he was by Dahlia’s side. Yes, he would try and do his best to survive, so he and Dahlia could have their happy ending too.
