Chapter 278: Babies First
At Stewart Manor, Kingdom of Ebodia
Krisha woke up very late and on an empty bed on top of that. Immediately jolting out of bed, she went ahead and quickly fixed herself.
"I can’t believe I’m waking up this late," she murmured to herself as she hastily got dressed. Judging by how bright it was outside, she bet that it was already past noon despite her still yawning as she brushed her hair. She was utterly sleep-deprived because of her constant lovemaking with Taro, and she still couldn’t even believe that she lasted for that long.
Making herself ready, a beautiful smile curved onto her lips when she spotted the tray of meals already prepared for her on the table with a note from Taro.
’Eat first before going out...’
[You didn’t wake me up,] she told Taro through their bond as she sat on the chair and started eating. She was starving, and her stomach was really grumbling at the state of its emptiness.
[How could I be so heartless as to not let you get enough rest after tiring you out after last night? Take your time to get more rest if you feel like sleeping more,] Taro advised her. [I’m currently with your father and brothers. I told Mother that you need more rest too, so no one should disturb you. Ah, wait, you’re probably hungry. There’s already some food on the table, but if you want, we can reheat it...]
[It’s fine. I’m good, and it’s still warm,] Krisha warmly replied. [Where are you at though?] She could only wonder what her three brothers asked Taro to do at this rate.
[I’m at the practice grounds teaching them a few techniques.] Taro answered.
Krisha frowned. "Are they getting along now?" she snorted. "That easily?"
Scoffing, she immediately grabbed a piece of bread and rushed out of her bedchamber. She really didn’t want to miss whatever was happening right now, especially since she was dying of curiosity as to how Taro handled everything.
She was munching on her bread as she walked through the hallways. Somewhere along the way, she saw a servant and promptly asked, "Can you please bring me some hot chocolate on the training grounds? Thank you."
Leaving that out of the way, Krisha then made her way to her destination. The moment she arrived, she frowned as she saw that practically everyone was in the training grounds right now. Her brothers, Cal, Teo, and Van were all fighting Taro.
"What is this?" she scoffed as she sat on the nearby table where her mother was casually enjoying some snacks and fresh fruit juices.
"Your brothers are trying to put your husband down," her mother scoffed back before giving her a meaningful glance directed towards her father.
Krisha shook her head. Her mother was obviously telling her to talk to her father about it, so that was what she did.
"I can’t believe how weak your brothers are," her father snorted. "Three against one. Almost an hour has passed and I still don’t see any improvement."
"Almost an hour already?" she breathed out. She couldn’t believe she missed watching this for almost an hour. "Also, Taro is a vampire and a half fairy, so do you really expect those three will manage to put someone like him down?" she pointed out with a pout. "Don’t you know that my husband is the best among our King’s shadow knights? Goodness, how can you look down on my husband like this..."
Her father chuckled at her accusation. "I’m not looking down on your husband. To be honest," he replied. "I admire him for how he managed to survive and become better despite what he experienced."
"Taro told you about his tribe and family then?" Krisha asked.
"I asked about his family and if they would come to the wedding ceremony, yes. I found out then that his entire family and tribe had been wiped out, and that King Nikolai was his only remaining family," her father stated.
"He may be physically stronger than your brothers, but those three idiots are still luckier than him for having a family they can call their own. You and your brothers didn’t experience the hardship and pain Taro had to bear. I could only imagine how long he had to endure..."
"Hmm... What are you saying, Father?" Krisha defended as her eyes darted to her husband who was currently effortlessly dodging her brothers’ attacks. "Taro is fortunate now since he has us as his additional family aside from the royal family of Valcrez."
She then scoffed as she commented at her brothers failing on the the training ground loudly enough for them to hear. "Look at those three eating dust! Shouldn’t they just stop and give up already? Are they planning on eating more dust for dinner?!"
"Just let the boys play, Daughter. Also, your hot chocolate is here. Go ahead and drink it," her father informed her as he handed her the hot chocolate "Now, you and Taro don’t have long to spend with us, so your mother and I went ahead and canceled all our schedules until then."
"Thank you, Father," Krisha smiled. "Also, I’m sorry that I’ve been a pain in the ass for years."
"Well, at least you know..." Duke Rigor snorted.
Krisha frowned and mumbled, "But you’ve been so strict that I feel like choking every time."
"Can you blame me? You’re my only daughter, Krisha," he answered with a sigh. "I only did what I think is best for you."
"You two should stop quarreling," her mother suddenly scolded. "You only have four days to be with each other, so make the most of it."
Krisha chuckled, and her father also laughed with her. They were often like this whenever she and her father were together. Their mother would always act as a referee between their usual arguments.
"But I’m curious," her mother added. "How old is Taro, daughter?"
"Taro was twenty-five when Devon and his dark warlocks and sorcerers attacked their tribe," Krisha answered. "He was about to lose his life but King Nikolai saved him and turned him.
That was thirty years ago, so he’s fifty-five right now."
If she recalled, Devon was just a prince at the time, and yet one could already see how much of a bloodthirsty demon the prince of Helion was becoming. He killed all of Taro’s family before his own eyes. His parents and his older brother... There was something from the fairies that Devon wanted. He wanted their life force, and Devon stole it to make himself more powerful and create his own army against his father.
"Taro was still in pain from his past. That’s why I want him to have his own family with me," Krisha stated in determination. "I won’t turn myself into a vampire just yet since I want to bear him children. Not all vampires are blessed to get pregnant, so I won’t risk it. I will have our babies first before I decide whether or not I want to be turned."
"But I heard that he was dispatched for a long-term mission," his father reminded.
Krisha gulped at that. She had almost forgotten about that problem. But then again, she was sure she and Taro could come up with a solution for it somehow, right?
