Chapter 277: Turn Into Reality

Chapter 277: Turn Into Reality

Dani was still in her own thoughts as they casually walked around the Ebodian streets she once called home. The way Abel was acting just felt foreign to her, and while she knew deep down what exactly was happening, she couldn’t help but still try and deny that Abel really wanted her.

Well, she certainly wouldn’t mind if that was the case, but surely it wasn’t, right?

"So, since we have some time all to ourselves, what do you have in mind?"

"W-What?"

Dani couldn’t help but stutter as she was suddenly pulled out of her thoughts by the very same person that she was agonizing about. She didn’t even notice that they were already in the middle of a marketplace, and the sound of street vendors peddling their wares almost made her feel homesick, which somehow still managed to worm its way into her already confused mess of a heart.

"This is your home, right?" Abel pointed out with a small smirk. "I’m the tourist here, so I’ll be looking at you for guidance."

"O-Oh, right," Dani responded as she quickly composed herself. "I suppose this is one of the many market places in Ebodia. There’s a lot to be done here, really."

"I see. I’ll be looking forward to seeing them should you want to," he smiled.

She blinked at his words. Just looking at his face just made her chest tighten again. This was ridiculous. She should just play things cool right now!

"You should," she smugly replied. "This is my home, after all, and I know all of the good places that will give us some way to kill some time."

Well, that was what she said to try and make things sound grand, but in truth, she was just dying to see all of the old spots that she used to hang out in before she had to leave to follow her queen.

"I have a feeling you have more than that in mind," Abel pointed out with a smirk. "Nevertheless, I’ll follow your lead."

Dani returned the smirk at him, but for some reason, her chest tightened as she felt the faintest blush trying to force itself onto her cheeks.

"Let me drag you to all of the good spots then."

Giving him a coy smile, Dani grabbed his hand and led him to all of the old places that she missed after such a long time away from her home. From all of the street foods that she sampled from her childhood, all the way to all of her old haunts and old hangout spots, she made sure to show them all with all of the enthusiasm of the young girl that she once was. With every sight that they saw, the more she felt her heart swelling with joy. And somehow, spending time with Abel while doing all of this only made things better.

"So this is where you grew up," Abel hummed to himself, his arms already full of all of the things they, or rather she bought for them. "I wouldn’t expect someone like you to grow up somewhere so..."

"Quaint? Lively? Simple?" she asked in succession, her own hands full with her snacks as they sat on a nearby park bench. "I know. My personality doesn’t really fit where I grew up, I suppose."

"You really don’t feel like a daughter coming from a rich family," he chuckled. "You can walk through these streets like you own the place."

"I suppose that there’s some truth to that," she shrugged. "My father is a duke, after all."

She wouldn’t say to him that she constantly snuck out back in the day. Not that she needed to. She was pretty sure that he already had an idea of how she became knowledgeable about the things she knew.

"There’s something in simplicity though," Abel hummed to himself as he soundlessly munched on his own snack. "It’s very much... simple. Not complicated. There’s nothing to overcomplicate, which means less misunderstandings. Kind of like how there’s nothing stopping us from just going through with things."

Dani raised an eyebrow at his words. "Going through with what, exactly?"

"Why make things more complicated, no?" he smirked as he replied back with yet another answer. "We can make things real. After all, the best lies always had truth in them."

Before Dani could even begin to comprehend what Abel was trying to imply, she felt herself stiffen as he snaked his free arm around her shoulder. Their snacks lay uneaten in their hands, their attention more focused on each as the Ebodian populace went on with their lives in front of them.

"I... don’t know what you’re implying," Dani lied, more to herself as she felt his warmth seeping into her shoulders. "I know that principle in those words, but I don’t think lying needs to have some truth in them."

"Ah, but you still agree, right?" Abel smiled warmly at her, his body moving closer as he pulled her close to him. "There’s always a chance for lies to be seen through, but one that is closer to the truth will always pass scrutiny."

He then held her by the chin as he turned her head to face her. All of a sudden, her lips tingled as memories of the kiss they had just a few hours prior lingered in her head. Why now of all times? She knew that they didn’t have something, but simply an agreement that had mutual benefit. Yet her heart was telling her otherwise.

She was really hoping that things would work out with Abel and they’d be able to have their happy ending. Was it really possible? Could she really win his heart over time? Lately, Abel’s actions were really giving her hope and encouragement as if she was progressing well in getting his attention the way she wanted.

"Dani, I have full intentions of making things real," Abel seriously stated. "While it started out as a lie, perhaps this is one that we can turn into reality. That way, we don’t have to lie any more in the first place."
