Chapter 279: Brotherly Love

Chapter 279: Brotherly Love

Mineah felt exhausted and overwhelmed at the same time. She and Niran had just finished their visit to another big province, Apus, and it was finally time for her to take a break.

They currently were inside the room Niran booked in the biggest inn of the province, and it was already getting dark out as she waited for Nikolai so that the two of them could travel in his mist form back to Ebodia. Both of them would be traveling together with their spouses to attend Krisha’s garden wedding tomorrow, and then Dani’s chapel wedding the next day.

"You have to rest early, Milady," Niran advised her as she poured herself a cup of tea. "Take a short nap while waiting for His Majesty."

"You should rest while waiting for Raul too," Mineah advised back.

"Hmm... I will soon. Right now, I still feel a bit energetic," Niran shrugged. "So many weddings... And then Laura’s exams..."

"True, but I trust Laura will do well in it," Mineah remarked. "Nikolai said that Lord Fritz has been monitoring things closely to make sure that everything will go well. And besides, I also trust that Minister Milo will handle this matter very strictly."

After all, Nikolai had already called for Milo’s attention to make sure that only the rightful and deserving people would be placed in their suitable positions.

From what she recalled, Nikolai said that Milo Braun was someone who could be trusted. Then again, he was also someone who was trying his best not to offend any powerful clans.

However, now that he was being called to do something, Nikolai believed that Milo would do his best to enforce the rules with an iron fist. Well, or else his position would be compromised because the next time around, Nikolai would no longer be as lenient enough to even give out a warning.

"Right, I almost forgot that there’s also another wedding coming up at Ebodia. It’s Atlas with Princess Ezme," Mineah reminded herself. "I honestly still can’t believe that Atlas even agreed to it."

It was a curious match, to be sure. Still, she hoped that Atlas and Ezme’s relationship would work out in the long run.

"Also, the Ministry of Defence will be vacant soon," she added. "According to Nikolai, Ezme is planning to step down from it. Nikolai wanted Raul to take over, but..."

"Hmm... You don’t fully trust that he won’t go against King Nikolai?" Niran asked upon seeing her sigh.

Mineah looked straight into Niran’s eyes and shrugged. "Nikolai trusts Raul, so I should also trust him," she remarked. "But for some reason, I feel bothered by his inner demons, Niran. What if he hasn’t completely recovered from it? The ghost of his mother is still haunting him, right?"

"It did when Raul and I were still not on good terms, but right now, he’s been doing really well, Milady," Niran defended.

"I see that, but what if you two quarrel again or have some sort of misunderstanding in the future?" Mineah questioned. "I’m just worried that it will affect his post as the Minister of Defence. That’s a powerful rank since he’ll have authority over our military affairs. Still, I trust my husband, and he probably has his reasons as to why he wants Raul to take on the post."

Nikolai had already informed her about it last night, but she was already too sleepy to ask him more about it. She was also supposed to ask her husband about today, but she once again forgot because of how busy she was. Maybe later, she would remember to ponder more on it.

"Don’t worry, Milady. I’ll make sure to keep Raul in check," Niran reassured. "He’s actually already having therapy sessions with Zaila. It honestly took me a long time to convince him to do it, but I’m glad we did. He’s already past his second session too."

"That’s good then. I hope Zaila will be able to help him overcome this," Mineah hummed in approval while Niran timidly nodded. "Also, I’m sure you two are doing your best to help him become more stable." She took a quick glance at the time and added, "You should go back to your assigned room, Niran. Raul might already be waiting for you."

"Very well," Niran smiled as she excused herself with a curt bow. "See you tomorrow, Your Majesty. Have a good night’s rest."

Mineah smiled back as she watched Niran leave. As soon as she was alone, Nikolai suddenly appeared behind her and hugged her while resting his chin on her shoulder, burying his face in the crook of her neck.

"Ah, my source of energy," Nikolai murmured while he peppered her neck with kisses.

Mineah chuckled and teased, "I thought you were someone that never gets tired, my dearest husband?"

"But I only don’t get tired of making love with you, my dearest wife," Nikolai chuckled as he sniffed and licked at her shoulder. "When it comes to my duties to the kingdom and solving problems... Ah.... They’re always tiring as hell!"

"Do you want to feed on me?" she curiously asked.

"Hmm... I’m not craving for human blood, Mine. I only do it during the full moon," he playfully hummed as he continued suckling on your skin. "But I do want to feed on you in another sense of the word. How about you let me feed on your twin peaks?"

"Later, Lai..." Mineah weakly murmured. "Let’s talk first."

Unfortunately for her, her husband suddenly carried her in his arms as he reasoned, "We can talk while I charge myself, Mine."

Nikolai then went ahead and put her down on the bed and leaned in to kiss her. However, Mineah put her palms up against his chest to stop him. "Tell me about your plan with Raul first," she stated with a pout. "I dozed off last night with how tired I was."

"Well, I don’t have any plans yet, Mine. I simply want to give him that post because he deserves it," Nikolai explained. "That, and because I want him to know that I trust him like how I trusted Ezme in that position."

Satisfied with his answer, Mineah smiled as she gently cupped her husband’s face. "My husband is really such a great and wonderful person," she proudly stated before pulling him in for a passionate kiss. All the while, she could only hope that Raul saw Nikolai’s efforts and his genuine attempts to reach out to him as his brother. One who was honestly longing for older brotherly love and care from him.
