Chapter 258: Public Execution

Nikolai was having a lot of fun torturing Haman throughout the trial. While the man himself had gone silent at the overwhelming evidence against him, he could still feel his fear wafting off him in spades, and that was more than enough for him to enjoy the justice being served for both Mineah and his kingdom.

"No! It should be me!" Eva screamed even as some of his men began restraining her. "Don’t you all dare touch my son!"

"Unfortunately, the law doesn’t care," Sage leered as she stood up and went to where Haman was currently sitting. "I’ll do as His Majesty commands. Clearly, no one else wants to touch such a sinful individual, so I’ll be the one to spare them from the disgust of doing it."

"You... You just want more power!" Eva accused.

"I’m simply doing my duties to the crown," Sage cheekily smirked. "There’s nothing wrong if I get a reward out of it."

Nikolai inwardly smirked as he watched Sage begin to suck the Exordium toxin out of Haman’s blood without so much as a care in the world.

All the while, Eva was kicking and screaming as she watched her traitorous son slowly have his life sucked out of him. This was actually yet another part of his plan to get the Rossi and the Wagner Clans to start feuding.

By the time Sage was done, Haman was an exhausted wreck, his Exordium status now null and void as he was left powerless against any lesser vampire that wanted to suck his blood.

"Thank you, Lady Sage," Nikolai nodded in approval at the woman, to which the latter simply gave him an appreciative smile before returning to her seat. "With Haman now rendered but a normal vampire, is there anyone who would like to see what he truly did through his blood?"

With the threat of dying now gone, Nikolai could only nod in satisfaction as a few officials began to step forward to try and see the truth for themselves.

In fact, he even gave the few other vampires that could do the same thing to take part in sucking Haman’s blood themselves, a separate line forming for them as they all took part in the viewing like it was a free public wine sampling. From there, he was sure that the word about Haman would spread, and it would justify why their supposed Minister of Justice had to die.

With Abel acting as somewhat of a tour guide, Nikolai watched as Haman was slowly but surely drained of his blood by vampire after vampire that had the ability to parse through memories by sucking on his blood.

It was a slow and painful death, one that Haman deserved for even daring to want to suck his wife’s blood. Not that Nikolai had plans for the man to die this way. No, this would be a mercy for what he wanted him to experience.

"If all are done seeing the truth for themselves, now is the time to hand out the final verdict," Nikolai declared as he took the stage. "For all of the crimes listed, Haman of the Rossi Clan, you are sentenced to a public execution. One that is worthy of someone that wishes harm upon his fellow people, for someone that benefits off the misery of others, for one that uses his power and position to further himself even if it means the downfall of his own country..."

The crowd around them seemed to get riled up with each word as Nikolai began his sentence. There would be no mercy for Haman. He had something in mind for a traitor of his caliber, and he would make sure that everyone watching would know what happened to anyone who dared to harm him, the kingdom, and those he cared about.

"Bring out the cage!"

With a loud bellow, his men brought out a gruesome looking cage filled with spikes and rust. It was contained in some kind of magical barrier, and it required the men carrying it to be as far away from it as possible as they used wooden sticks and planks to move it to the center of the open courtroom area turned execution platform.

"No... My King, are you... No!"

"So you’ve finally decided to speak," Nikolai scoffed as he addressed the newly-revived Haman. "Not that it would matter anymore. Your sentence will be swift, and you will be the grim reminder for those that dare to harm this kingdom."

"No!" Haman screamed, his fight seemingly returning as he eyed the barrier-covered cage in fear. "You’re not seriously going to-"

"Take him in!"

At Nikolai’s command, the same men who carried the cage promptly lifted Haman and tossed him into the cage. It was then closed shut, and one of the men snapped his fingers, signaling the spell surrounding it to activate.

For a brief second, nothing happened. But then, Haman’s screams of pain began to echo across the entire area as bugs and vermin began materializing from within the cage itself. The barrier prevented any of them from escaping as they feasted on the accused’s flesh, the cage preventing Haman from fighting back as he was eaten alive in a slow and agonizing death until not even his bones remained.

For once, the crowd that clamored for justice was silent; terrified as they watched the man they cheered death for given exactly what he deserved.

"Let this be a lesson to those that dare to harm this kingdom! Near or far, weak or powerful, there will be nothing that can protect you from the reach of the law!" Nikolai declared with a loud bellow. "Should you be proven guilty, you shall be given your due punishment in accordance with the severity of your crime!"

He then gestured to the nothing behind him. "This is the fate of those that dare to cross the Crown! To those that wish harm upon this kingdom! To whoever wants to do such things, go ahead, but know that nothing will save you once you’re caught and proven guilty of your crimes!"

He let out a huff as he glared at everyone present. This was more than just revenge. This was a demonstration for those who would dare to fight against them.

There will be no more second warnings. The nothing that was once Haman would be all the reminder they got. They would disappear, and nothing would be left of them to even be remembered.
