Chapter 242: A Beast

Chapter 242: A Beast

Abel was already outside the meeting room where Dani told him to go. He frowned because he could hear Dahlia’s cries inside the room. He could only wonder what was happening inside, but just before he could even think to knock, the door opened, revealing Dani as she went to approach him.

"It may take a while," Dani stated as she guided him to sit on the nearest available bench in the hallway. "They are trying to get every single detail they can of the vision Seer Tarah saw."

"It must have been bad hearing how Dahlia’s crying," Abel remarked.

"It looks like Dahlia fell in love with Zoran," Dani sighed. "She cares for him, and she wants to save him badly enough to beg for it."

"Zoran’s a good kid. He’s the quiet type; someone who doesn’t easily open up themselves to someone else," Abel shrugged. "I’m honestly surprised at how devoted he is to Dahlia to the point of not thinking about his own life. He tried killing Nikolai numerous times to avenge her death, and King Arturo was even about to kill him for that if not for Nikolai begging to spare Zoran’s life."

"I see. Zoran then left, but no one knew how he brought Dahlia’s body with him. All this time, he kept her body warm while looking for a solution to bring her back," Dani thought out loud.

"Yes... Who would’ve thought... I guess there are really miracles. He waited sixteen years looking after her under that tree of life." Abel seconded followed by a deep sigh.

"That Tree of Life in Helion sure is something... I’ve long heard of it, but I never had the opportunity to see it," Abel lengthily began.

"They called it the Tree of Life because it stands tall on top of a sand dune in the middle of the desert. No flora can be seen for miles around, and there’s not a drop of water to be found anywhere. And yet the wide-branched tree has survived for centuries. There are myths about it, and I guess Zoran took that chance and risked it all trying to bring back Dahlia..."

"And now, Dahlia doesn’t want Zoran to die just to save her again," Dani finished.

"I see," Abel muttered. "I guess that’s why she’s crying right now."

Dani nodded. That was all that there was to things at the moment.

"We can do a reading of my past some other time then, Dani," Abel chuckled with a smile. "I don’t think this is a good time to do it."

"But we’re not sure when we can ask Seer Tarah to come here again," Dani mumbled.

Abel chuckled as he pointed his index finger in between her eyebrows again. "I’m not in a rush, Dani," he smirked. "I’ve lived for three hundred years not knowing about my origins, so really... It’s not something that’s necessary in my life. I’m sure there will be another opportunity some time in the future."

Dani took the hint and stopped frowning as she decided to just cross her arms in wait instead. There was a deafening silence between them as they both waited for the other to speak.

"Aren’t you needed inside?" Abel asked, breaking the silence.

"I’m not. Krisha and Zaila are more than enough to jot down all the details we need." She then turned to him and asked, "Are you needed somewhere?"

Abel shook his head with a half smile before softly chuckling, making Dani frown again. "What’s so funny?"

"Oh, nothing. It’s just that I never thought I’d see myself lazing around like this," Abel wistfully replied. "For two hundred and sixty-seven years... All I did was work hard."

"Hmmm... So you became a vampire at the age of thirty-three," Dani pointed out after doing the math.

Abel smiled. "Vampires hate talking about their ages, you know."

"Obviously, you don’t," Dani scoffed.

Abel laughed, and Dani also laughed in response.

"I can’t believe I’m marrying an antique," she jokingly stated. "No wonder my brother can’t get over it."

"I hope this antique is something that can be noteworthy to you then," Abel chuckled as he boasted. "Tell me, Dani, how young are you?"

"Guess," Dani snorted, trying to ignore the fluttering in her heart with how much Abel’s simple words became noteworthy to her. She knew he only said as much to humor her, and yet the butterflies inside her stomach were going crazy already. Funny how they only just now bothered to try and find out each other’s age... Not that it mattered, she guessed.

"Her Majesty is turning twenty-one before winter’s end," Abel further pointed out. "I heard she’s excellent in that she jumped two years in her lessons, so you’re probably twenty-three..."

Dami pouted, "Seems like you did enough studying about our Queen."

"That couldn’t be helped. Queen Mother quickly asked for every single detail about our new Queen the moment the news of King NIkolai’s unexpected marriage to her reached us," Abel shrugged with a smile. "The opposition will try and be negative with things, so we had to be prepared so that the Queen Mother can throw all the good traits our Queen had at them in response."

Dani simply nodded. She understood exactly what he meant by those words.

"This feels good, you know... Just sitting around and talking about things with you."

Dani’s heart suddenly leaped out of her chest at Abel’s sudden words. Her face reddened, but she immediately managed to calm herself before things got out of hand. Still, she loved the feeling of knowing how much Abel felt comfortable around her.

Then, an idea suddenly came to her.

She turned to him with her brightest smile, her eyes glimmering as she suggested, "How about we go on a picnic during our honeymoon?!"

***

’Ah, so naive and innocent...’

That was what came to Abel’s mind while staring at Dani’s glowing face. She just blurted out the word honeymoon like it wasn’t anything serious; as if the two of them were simply kids that were about to play house and all.

Was she not aware of how much of a beast he was once he saw an opportunity? The moment he got the chance, he wouldn’t hesitate in devouring her alive...

He had no time to play around at all, especially when he was physically attracted to Dani. He also knew deep inside his heart that she was starting to grow on him too. A picnic on their honeymoon? He would turn it into a different kind of picnic if he had his way.

From those thoughts alone, Abel’s mind started going wild as he looked into Dani’s sweet smile.

"What do you think? You can laze around during our honeymoon period and have fun going to places you’ve never been before," Dani beamed. "I’ll be with you throughout, and we can enjoy and have fun together."

Abel mischievously smiled. "Yes, Dani. Let’s do that."
