Chapter 214: Always Home

"But you’ll lose your lifespan if we do that, Your Grace. It’s never been done before, and we’re not even sure about the amount required of your lifespan," Wizard Lurio quickly explained. "Not to mention that your life will be intertwined with hers. If Lady Jayra dies, you will also die with her."

"Xen... please..." King Darius murmured.

"It’s alright... Do it..." Xenia firmly stated. "Jayra is my sister in all but blood, and I refuse to let anything bad happen to her under my watch."

"No! I’ll do it instead," her mother interrupted.

"You can’t, Your Grace. Please... You’ll lose your own life if you proceed to do this in your current state!" Lurio remarked, making Xenia frown at their wizard. "You barely have enough inner energy left in you to survive the process."

Mineah frowned. She refused to let her mother do it!

She was just about to speak when Wizard Lurio spoke again. "The Queen has already used up a lot of her inner energy on Prince Ezekiel..." he briefly stated.

Mineah held her tongue as she prepared herself. There was silence in the room before a loud sigh echoed from beneath her breath.

"This won’t do..." Mineah finally spoke before interjecting herself into the treatment. "I’ll do it!"

Before anyone could even comment, she had already started casting the spell on her own. Somehow, she felt like she heard Nikolai’s faint voice calling her through their bond...

[Mine!]

She heard nothing else, however, as the spell had already started taking over her as she extracted the black-colored Bloodthread from Jayra’s body.

"We need to destroy the demon’s Bloodthread now. If we don’t, it will simply continue trying to find a host it can infect till it reaches its goal," Tarah quickly stated. "The Demon King is searching for the last person harboring his blood... He wants to make sure to eliminate every single person that could become a threat to his throne and reign at the Kingdom of Helion."

"But there’s no way to destroy it except by killing the owner of the Bloodthread..." Lurio helplessly uttered.

Sweat drops started to form on Mineah’s forehead as she tried to suppress the black spots forming on Jayra’s face. She hissed through her teeth, andher heart almost skipped a beat when she saw the black bloodthread emerging from Jayra’s wrist. A smile curved on her lips as she gratefully mused, ’Thank heavens...’

Now for that hard part...

"Hand me a knife!" Mineah instructed, and Lord Bartos was quick to give his dagger. Mineah then slit her wrist, letting her blood create its own thread as it quickly moved towards the black hanging thread that was currently still connected to Jayra’s wrist.

It all happened in a flash. Mineah’s red bloodthread crawled into the black bloodthread, inserting and morphing itself into Jayra’s wrist. It was then followed by the complete expulsion of the black thread. All of them could only watch as the black bloodthread moved like lightning, escaping the chamber without even a single second to spare.

"It will continue trying to find a host with demon blood in them and kill them if they’re not the one the Demon King is looking for," Tarah murmured as her eyes followed the black Bloodthread. "We should stop it..."

The door suddenly swung open, and King Nikolai entered just in time to quickly catch Mineah and prevent her from falling to the ground.

Weakly, Mineah smiled at her sister Xenia. "She’s safe now, Sister. She’ll wake up soon."

"You...." Nikolai whispered as he stared at his wife’s weak form. His eyes then quickly went to the other people in the chamber. "Who gave you permission to do this?!" he roared.

Shaking her head, Mineah gave her husband a loving smile as she stopped him from making a scene. "I feel too weak to receive your nagging right now, Lai," she murmured. "Can you just quietly get me out of here so we can talk in private? Or would you rather that everyone in this chamber witness us bicker?"

Nikolai cursed as he hastily left the chamber with her in his arms. "I was trying to reach to you through the bond, but I got blocked! Why did you do this?!" he hissed at her. "Why would you irresponsibly risk your life like that? You’re killing me!"

"I... I can’t bear seeing my big sister cry like that, Lai. Jayra is very dear to her, and as a sister, what I lacked in many ways was quickly filled in by Jayra’s presence," Mineah explained with a faint smile on her face. "The fact is, nothing is certain in my life, but while I still have breath in me, I want to live a meaningful life, Lai. I want to do noteworthy things... and saving Jayra’s life is worth it."

She saw her vision fading as she weakly laid in Nikolai’s arms. She was too exhausted from performing what was considered a very complicated and powerful spell. It was like she just fought a spiritual battle with Demon King as well. Now, however, she should avoid showing Nikolai just how much she was affected by what she did.

"Why are you here?" she weakly hummed.

Despite her words, Nikolai’s face was still as dark and gloomy as the worst storm she encountered. Smiling, she raised her hand and gently caressed his cheek. "I thought I was just hallucinating. It turns out you’re really calling out to me through the bond."

"I came here to bring you back home, Mine," Nikolai sternly stated, but his expression soon softened as he leaned in to kiss her head.

"Nikolai."

Nikolai stopped walking as Mineah’s mother called to them from behind. He turned, around, her body still in his arms as they greeted the older woman.

"Mother," Mineah muttered.

"I’ll be going back to Valcrez with my wife now, Mother. However, I will still send some of my men to stay on guard for Lady Jayra," Nikolai firmly stated, making Mineah gulp. "I can’t let anything happen to her now because my wife will also face the same fate. I will make sure that not even a single fly will dare hurt Lady Jayra."

"I understand." Queen Dana stated.

Still in Nikolai’s arms, Mineah gave her mother a reassuring smile as she said, "I’ll send word soon, Mother. Please don’t worry about me. Tell sister Xenia that I’ll also send word to her and to not worry about me..."

Her mother nodded as her eyes welled up.

"Let’s go home, Mine..." Lai whispered in her ear after their brief exchange.

Mineah nodded and lovingly murmured, "I already feel home, Lai... Being with you is always home."

It was then that she lost consciousness, but not before having a content smile on her face.
