Chapter 213: Bloodthread

Chapter 213: Bloodthread

Mineah stayed on the balcony with her brother. The two of them were currently engaged in a serious conversation when Seer Tarah arrived.

"Your Majesties," Tarah’s familiar voice greeted them from behind, making the two of them turn around to greet her.

"You’re finally back," Ezekiel whispered with a frown.

Mineah raised a brow at how dim her brother’s face was. Likewise, she smiled at Tarah and greeted her, "Welcome back, Tarah. Come. Let’s have you rested first. You’re probably tired from your journey."

Still smiling, Mineah walked with Tarah through the hallways going to the courtyard where they could both sit and have a cup of tea while waiting. Behind them, Ezekiel followed, seemingly in thought as he remained silent.

"I heard you met a friend here at Cordon?" Mineah curiously asked.

"Yes, I did. I’m a wanderer, and I’ve been in every kingdom before finally settling down at Ebodia as its new fated Seer," Tarah replied with a smile. "I also met and made a good Cordonian friend last summer. Since I’m here, I thought I should pay her a visit."

Mineah couldn’t help but admire Tarah as she spoke. She had this beautiful smile on her face, and she looked ethereal with her silver-white long hair; the same hair color their previous seer, Beirut, had.

"What’s the original color of your hair?" she found herself asking.

"It’s the same as yours, Your Majesty," Tarah politely answered. "It was charcoal before all this happened."

Mineah nodded in understanding. From what she could recall, after a seer’s ascension, their hair color would always turn silver-white. At least, that was according to Ebodia’s history.

"Those silver-white locks look good on you," Mineah hummed.

"Thank you, Y-"

Tarah cut herself off as she suddenly stopped walking. Understandably, Mineah and Ezekiel did the same.

"What’s wrong?" Ezekiel asked.

"Danger... in the parade," Tarah whispered, her face losing its color as she spoke with a trembling voice. "Lady Jayra is in danger. Something ominous is within-"

Before Tarah could finish her words, her head tilted up and her eyes rolled up into her head. The seer had fallen, and thankfully, Ezekiel was quick to catch her body before it could fall on the floor.

Mineah frowned at what little they’d heard of this so-called prediction. Lady Jayra was one of the royal mages who grew up with them. She was very dear to her big sister Xenia, and she was even considered a sister and member of their royal family.

"She’s having another vision," Ezekiel explained as he carried Tarah in his arms. "It’s happening right now. She would lose consciousness whenever that happens and she sees it happening at the same time."

"What do we do?" Mineah asked while she followed her brother.

"Call for Mother and Wizard Lurio," Ezekiel instructed as he sat on the nearest bench by the hallway, making sure that Tarah was safe in his arms. "Don’t worry. Tarah will wake back up soon."

Nodding, Mineah moved quickly to look for her mother and wizard Lurio. The moment she saw them, she didn’t even bother telling them what was wrong before immediately bringing them back to where Ezekiel sat with Tarah.

She was just in time too, as Tarah opened her eyes the moment they arrived.

"I’m too late," Tarah weakly murmured. "Lady Jayra is already in danger..." She looked at her mother and said, "They’re on their way to the castle right now. You’ll meet them in the hallway nearest to the bedchamber downstairs. The Demon King has inserted a thread of dark energy into Lady Jayra, and her life is now in danger..."

With that, Mineah watched as her mother quickly rushed down the hallways with Wizard Lurio. Everything happened so fast. Her mother, Dana, met Xenia in the hallways of the castle just in time for things to start going down.

"Mother, please do something!" Xenia burst out.

Mineah gulped upon seeing how her big sister wailed. Ezekiel and Tarah were right beside her while her mother and wizard Lurio quickly assessed Jayra’s condition. As if that wasn’t enough, she then felt the divine dagger inside her chest reacting to something. Still, it was a common reaction that would always happen whenever dark energy was around.

"A portion of dark energy has been inserted into her," Queen Dana grimly remarked as soon as she was finished inspecting Jayra’s body. "I need to remove it this instant. We need privacy."

Quickly, Bartos, Jayra’s husband, carried her unconscious body away to the nearest empty bedchamber they found. After he gently put his wife on the bed, Bartos turned around and went down on his knees, his hand still holding onto Jayra’s hand. Like her sister Xenia, he was crying hard at Jayra’s current state. "Please... Please save her."

Seeing all the commotion, King Darius took the initiative to clear out the room while letting Bartos stay with them along with her, Wizard Lurio, Seer Tarah, and Queen Dana. The rest, however, remained outside of the chamber waiting for good news.

With the room relatively clear, Wizard Lurio began extracting the dark energy within Jayra. However, he was struggling.

"It’s a Bloodthread," Tarah suddenly whispered. "The Demon King has inserted a Bloodthread into her body."

Mineah winced. A Bloodthread was deadly once inside a foreign body. She remembered hearing about it from one of her classes under wizard Lurio, and it usually involved a very complicated spell to remove. She frowned as she stared at Lady Jayra. The Demon’s Bloodthread could only be attached to a host harboring the demon’s dark energy in their body.

’She has demon blood?’ Mineah thought as she blinked at Jayra. ’What is going on here?’

Xenia turned to Tarah with a creased forehead. "How did you know it’s the Demon King?" she questioned. "Did you predict this happening and didn’t say a thing?"

"I... I just..."

"Calm down, Daughter. Tarah is still adjusting to her visions," her mother, Queen Dana, explained. "She had lost consciousness, and by the time she woke up, it was already too late for her to relay her visions what with you having rushed back to the castle..."

"I apologize Your Majesty," Tarah weakly whispered.

Xenia sighed upon seeing how Tarah had bowed her head to her. "I apologize too, Tarah," she admitted. "I’m just so worried right now, and-"

She paused. Wizard Lurio had just fallen down on his knees.

"I can’t extract it. My inner energy isn’t enough," the wizard weakly uttered. "The dark energy in this Bloodthread is too much..."

"Only through an angel’s blood ties can a demon’s Bloodthread be repelled..." Tarah remarked.

"Do it with me then!" Xenia desperately offered. Her eyes keenly staring at the wizard, she reiterated, "Use my blood on her! Create a blood bond using my blood!"

’This is getting too complicated...’ Mineah thought as she observed what was happening. Confused as she might be, her focus quickly shifted to her big sister Xenia who was still sobbing as she offered herself to help Jayra. Seeing her sister in pain like that was making her sad...

’I can’t just do nothing...’

Unknown to Mineah, a raven was currently perched by the open window of the bedchamber. Its eyes were only focused on her as the mark of a soaring vulture on its forehead glowed.
