Chapter 201: The Shocking News
Nikolai stared at the glass of wine in his hand then his grasp tightened till the glass broke. Blood dripped from his hand but he couldn’t care less. Right now he was at a total loss after everything Mineah had told him.
"She sure harbors so many secrets," he weakly muttered. Then he let out a sarcastic chuckle followed by a curse as he recalled how he passed out twice while they were making love. It turned out she was taking his energy to save his brother...
alas, that was not his brother but Vulcan! The one responsible not only for his father’s death but many of their kind.
Nikolai closed his eyes as he tried to calm himself. He wasn’t sure as to what he was feeling right now but one thing was certain, he was a total mess. He wanted some time alone, which is why, here he was, alone inside this solitary cave of his at Mount Orion. The insides of the cave were rebuilt for it to be comfortable enough to live in. And Nikolai personally did the changes in it and put on things he wanted to be inside of it.
No one knew of that place except for Fritz, Abel, and Ezme. He was actually planning to show this place to Mineah once they returned to the palace but things became so busy the moment they arrived because of all the pending works and unexpected events.
Nikolai released a long sigh as he stared at the blood on his hand. His wound had already healed so he simply wiped the blood off.
He was about to leave when he suddenly felt someone trying to reach him through the raven which he dispatched to lurk in places he and Zoran had an encounter.
"Zoran," he muttered as he let him in to communicate with him through the raven he marked.
Their conversation didn’t last long before Nikolai felt the raven’s connection was cut off. It was already dead. His face dimmed as he hissed, "Does he have to kill it?!"
With a grunt, Nikolai called for Fritz. It took some time before Fritz appeared before him.
"What is it?"
"Sit down as this news might shock you..." Nikolai instructed as he sat opposite Fritz’s chair.
"Is this more shocking than the scent of Her Majesty’s blood? It’s described as heavenly and that no human has that kind of scent," Fritz snorted and Nikolai knew that his friend was fishing out details from him.
"Didn’t you get any information from her shadow maidens?" he answered with a frown but then, by the looks of it, Nikolai believed that even his wife’s shadow maidens were not aware of her true identity like how they were not aware of her curses.
"Krisha is flabbergasted. She honestly wanted a word with the Queen but I told her to let the Queen rest for some time. Her peers inside the palace will surely contact her soon anyway," Fritz commented as he poured himself some wine and quickly sipped on it from the glass.
"She’s a Nephilim. Queen Dana is a fallen angel, meaning Mineah and her siblings are not purely human; they have angel blood in them."
"Holy cow!!!" Fritz burst in surprise, so much so that he spit out the wine which he had just sipped.
"Oh, sorry about that. I’m just so surprised right now. I mean, I know that those fallen angels are no myths... This is interesting because I’ve known for a fact how Repenters are trying to hide their existence in this world while Demons want to conquer the world. Surely Queen Dana is among the Repenters because of all the good deeds which she’s been doing all this time, unlike Devon." Fritz didn’t hesitate in voicing out his thoughts.
"No wonder their family were the ones mentioned in the prophecy. Damn! Those clans of gossipers trying to take this opportunity in turning the tables against her. Making sure to remind us of how infamously known she is as the Cursed Princess. The Rossi Clan is getting vulgar with their moves, but it’s better that way since we’ll catch them soon," Fritz added.
Nikolai remained quiet. It was their prophecy that had given him more reason to believe that they would surpass Mineah’s curse together.
"Now that I think of it..." Fritz’s eyes widened and Nikolai could only shrug. That expression alone was enough for Fritz to mutter another curse.
"She confirmed it to me. She also begged me," Nikolai weakly murmured as he rested his head on the backrest of the chair and closed his eyes.
Seeing Mineah cry like that. He could still vividly recall her trembling voice and the streaming tears.
"I am sorry Nikolai. I am so sorry for everything but please... Spare my brother. He is innocent and he’s trying his best to fight Vulcan inside of him. I know him. And I am confident that he’ll succeed in overpowering the dragon," she sobbed.
"Overpowering Vulcan? That only means that Vulcan will stay inside his body for good, Mine. That monster will have a permanent body to use..."
"We’re doing everything, Lai. Please trust me. Mother and I will do everything so that Vulcan’s soul will not continue to stay inside Ezekiel. I know that this sounds impossible but there’s always a way with everything."
"I don’t know, Mine. My head and emotions right now are all over the place. I need to be alone, so I’ll leave in order to process everything. This information is too much for me and I don’t want to see you crying like that, begging even. I know you’re doing it for your brother, but the fact that Vulcan’s soul will remain... I just don’t know what to say right now."
Those were his last words before he just disappeared from his wife. There was so much to process and he was hurting too. Mineah had lied to him for far too long in order to protect her brother. He understood her situation, but it still hurt like hell to know that she didn’t trust him enough to tell him.
Did she really believe that he would have the guts to hurt her brother knowing that she’d get hurt in return? Yes, he was so mad that he wanted to kill Vulcan whenever he would see that damn monster, but he would also not dare do anything that would make his wife cry, because seeing her in pain was too much for him to bear. He was hurting twice as much.
"So what’s the shocking news you mentioned?" Fritz interrupted him from his stupor.
"Dahlia is alive..."
"What?!" Fritz’s jaw dropped.
