Chapter 202: Quarrel
Chapter 202: Quarrel
Mineah sighed deeply as she stared at Dani, Zaila, Krisha, and Niran who were all currently gathered inside her bedchamber. She had called the four of them there for a closed meeting to discuss everything that had happened. It was unfortunate that Laura couldn’t attend, but Niran volunteered to be the one to give Laura the details as soon as she was outside the palace.
Because of how sensitive the current situation was, security had to be very strict in the palace to the point that no one could easily get in and out of the place without permission. Nikolai had to implement these precautionary measures so that the incident at Norma would be prevented from happening in any other part of the Kingdom.
With her shadow maidens now gathered, Mineah took a deep breath as she prepared herself to speak. "The truth is that I am a hybrid. My mother is a fallen angel, and I was weak before because the power inside me was dormant and it was taking a toll on my physical body," she began.
"It is now active which means that I am much stronger now. However, my body is still adjusting to it, so I’m not sure when I would fully get a hold of all this power that has awakened in me."
Letting out another breath, Mineah held her tongue as she stared at her friends. She didn’t know how to respond while her four shadow maidens gave their respective reactions. All of them had parted lips as they stared at her, and it was actually giving her pause if she did the right thing.
"Is that why the King suddenly left?"
Mineah felt her shoulders drop. It would seem that Zaila was the one who managed to compose herself first.
"I kept a lot of secrets from him, including things about Niran and Laura," Mineah explained with a sigh. "It will take time for him to process everything."
"But it’s not your fault. I mean, what did he expect? You were about to be married into a foreign kingdom, and it’s only rational and wise of you to plan things ahead," Zaila snorted with a frown. "You had to at least know what to expect in where you’re going where you know absolutely no one else. He should understand that."
Mineah smiled. "He’ll come around eventually. But for now, I’ll give him the space he needs."
Well, her shadow maidens weren’t actually fully aware of everything yet since she didn’t mention to them the case about Ezekiel and what she did to save her brother, but she knew they’d understand. It was a confidential matter anyway, and giving away such information to them with vampires lurking around them who could easily compel or hypnotize them was unwise. Her being a Nephilipm was an exemption since it was bound to be exposed sooner or later by her sister Xenia like what Tarah told her in their last conversation. According to the seer, she saw her sister succeeding in her trials, revealing the truth about their kind in front of all the Cordonians in the process.
"Right, I will need to leave come tomorrow. It’s my sister Xenia’s final battle, and I want to witness that event myself," Mineah reminded them. "My family will also be there to witness it, so I shouldn’t miss it."
She was only grateful that things had cooled down somewhat. Despite everything that had happened to her and Nikolai a while ago, she still received a piece of good news about her brother’s condition. Ezekiel was now awake, and he had apparently succeeded in overpowering Vulcan’s soul inside of him. That only meant that he could now fully control Vulcan and his ability to shift into a dragon.
"You will need to travel with someone that has Exordium blood to reach Cordon in time, milady," Dani reminded.
"I know," Mineah nodded. "I’ll try to talk to Nikolai later about it once he comes back."
"What if he doesn’t come back tonight though?" Krisha curiously asked.
Mineah looked at Dani with an awkward smile. "Do you think you can ask Chancellor Abel on my behalf?" she asked. "I might need to use him as a ride..."
"Oh no! You wouldn’t want to do that, Your Majesty. I think it’s probably because he’s a Curb who just recently mastered or developed his ability to shift, but his mist form is the worst," Dani complained as she warned her friend. "I haven’t heard you complaining during your travels with His Majesty in his mist form, so I assumed it would be a smooth affair, but with Abel... It’s too bumpy!"
"What an icebreaker," Krisha exagerratedly sighed. "Since when did you overtake Zaila in being funny?"
"Ah, I missed these kinds of interactions," Niran chortled, and Mineah couldn’t help but smile upon seeing her friends banter like old times.
"How about Lady Alexa? She’s so worried as hell that she visited you almost every day while you were unconscious, milady," Krisha suggested. "I’m sure she’ll be willing to help."
"Or I can just use the teleportation portal," Mineah murmured with a shrug. "Why bother asking when I can do everything myself?"
"NO!!!!"
Mineah was startled when chorus her shadow maidens suddenly shouted at her in chorus. She gulped as their narrowed eyes all darted at her.
"You just recovered, and you’re already planning to use another powerful spell again?!" Dani complained like a scolding mother. "Your Majesty, why are you always this stubborn?"
Mineah smiled. "It’s just an option, Dani. That’s why you all have to work hard and practice more whenever you have the time," she humorously replied. "Don’t forget to cultivate your inner energy so that you can all finally cast the teleportation portal for once. It would be very helpful for all of us, right? So do better so that next time I need it, one of you can simply do it for me."
"Don’t worry, milady. I’m almost there," Dani immediately boasted. "I’m near to perfecting the spell."
"Hah, you probably won’t since you’ll soon be very busy playing with the Chancellor," Zaila teased.
Krisha laughed as she added, "Zaila, are you jealous that Dani suddenly got a man for herself when we all thought you’ll be the first one to get hooked up?"
Mineah chuckled as she let her friends bicker to their own amusement. Letting out a breath, she then turned to the balcony. She didn’t know where Nikolai went, but she was hoping that he’d come back soon. Her eyes then roamed toward their bed as she mused, ’He said we still have to sleep in the same bed even if we quarrel.’
She was itching to contact him through their bond, but she held herself back. He said he needed some time alone to process everything, and she’d give him the time that he wanted.
Mineah bit her lower lip as she let out a heavy sigh. She would do anything if it meant he’d forgive her for what she had done.
"Looks like it’s dinner time already. I would like to have dinner here alone, Dani," Mineah ordered with a smile. "Have a servant deliver it here. You all can go now so you can get some rest."
She then looked at Krisha and Zaila and said, "You two should also rest as well already. I heard you two have’ve been working hard so hard while I’m unconscious, not to mention how you all rushed here on my behalf, cutting your vacation short just so you two can assist me, so you should at least get some time to yourselves."
Lastly, she turned to Niran. "Prince Raul is probably waiting for you already as well, Niran," she smiled. "Go now. I’ll be fine."
"I’m sure His Majesty will come back soon, milady," Niran reassured her with her reply. "I’ll be leaving first then. I’ll visit you again next time."
Mineah simply nodded. She really hoped Nikolai returned to her tonight.
