Chapter 200: It’s Not Too Late Yet

At Helion Kingdom

"Hah! I knew there was something special about that royal bloodline of Ebodia!!! No wonder the dragon king’s soul chose the prince of Ebodia as its host. He’s just perfect!" Devon beamed with a maniacal laugh.

Abruptly, his expression darkened, and he raised his hand as if he was strangling someone. The sorceress not far from him suddenly floated as she struggled to breathe.

"You incompetent bitch! You took months crafting that spell to cause chaos in Valcrez but looked at what you’ve done!! It all went futile! Not only did you fail in your task, but you’ve also alerted them of the danger coming their way ahead. They’ve gone into complete lockdown! So tell me how to continue from here?!"

"Master, allow me to handle Valcrez, I for one know inch of that kingdom, having grown up there. I have spies planted everywhere and-"

"Zoran! Focus on capturing the damn Prince and that dragon for me! I want the dragon by any means necessary! I want him captured no matter what!" Devon roared, his eyes emanating an ominous glow.

Zoran quickly bowed his head and said, "I understand, Master."

"Please spare me, Master. I will not fail this time. Please give me anoth-" the sorceress pleaded desperately. But her words were cut short by the sickening sound of bones snapping, followed by her body thudding onto the ground.

Zoran’s thoughts were consumed by Dahlia, and he contemplated how he could ensure her safety in Nikolai’s hands without the Demon King finding out. He turned to see the lifeless figure of the sorceress nearby, her body now being dragged away by guards. His own body shivered at the mere notion of Dahlia facing the same fate.

’No! I won’t let anything happen to Dahlia. But how can I safely deliver her to Nikolai?!’ Zoran inwardly cursed.

"Everyone, get out except for Zoran and Sibil!!!!" Devon’s voice thundered, and the room cleared rapidly, leaving only the three of them.

"Zoran. Is the dungeon ready? Make sure everything you need for the experiment and extraction is ready," Devon reminded.

Zoran raised his head and said, "Yes, Master."

"Sibil will be by your side from now on in this goal. I want you two to work closely in capturing and handling Ezekiel. He will lead the extraction of Vulcan’s power," Devon directed.

Sibil entering the picture meant only one thing. Devon no longer trusted him with the task. Although Sibil was impulsive, his loyalty to Devon was unquestionable.

"Now, you two leave and hunt as if it will be your last! I’m growing impatient with the slow and sluggish progress! That damn dragon is wreaking havoc in my forces!!" Devon growled and soon Zoran quickly left with Sibil.

"What is wrong? You seem out of focus lately or are you just being overconfident since King Devon favors you a lot?!" Sibil mocked with his suspicious glare. Zoran simply ignored him, maintaining his usual stoic demeanor, and said, "Mind your own business like you usually do Sibil. I will not hesitate to take the remaining breath out of you if you get in my way and hinder my goal."

Sibil let out a mocking laugh and said, "Goal, huh? Interesting... I wonder if your goal still aligns with King Devon’s. Watch your step, Zoran. King Devon won’t show mercy once he finds your flaws."

Zoran brushed off Sibil’s words, unwilling to waste time and energy on his provocations. Right now, his priority was ensuring Dahlia’s safety. He instantly teleported to the cave where he had last met Nikolai and there he spotted a raven perched on the rock with a familiar glowing mark on it.

"Nikolai," he whispered. Zoran walked closer and touched the raven to connect with Nikolai.

[I’m surprised you reached out to me but I’m grateful at the same time,] Nikolai talked to him through the raven.

[Let’s keep this talk brief as it’s risky and I also know the truth now. There’s no need to talk for long. Dahlia is alive and safe with me for now. But she’ll be in danger if she stays with me any longer. Please take care of her before Devon gets a hold of her.]

[I will, Zoran. It’s not too late yet. Come back to us...] Nikolai asked. It was a very tempting offer but Zoran knew his fate was already sealed. He was no longer the master of his own life.

[Devon already owns my life Nikolai, so there’s no turning back for me. Dahlia... I managed to keep her out of Devon’s grasp. She’ll be at the southeast borders of your kingdom before dawn. Promise me that you will protect and safeguard her.]

[I promise, Zoran. But consider coming with her. We’ll find ways to cut you-]

Before he could finish, the raven in Zoran’s hand turned to ashes, leaving no trace behind.

"Why are you following me?!" he hissed with gritted teeth. Sibil had followed him, but the moment Zoran detected his foul scent, he promptly severed his connection with Nikolai and banished the raven.

’What a shame...’ Zoran thought, feeling a pang of sympathy for the poor raven but it had to be done regardless.

The black wizard appeared behind him with a chuckle and said, "I was just wondering where you would be."

"Where else? This is the place where I almost caught the dragon if not for Nikolai and his wife," Zoran growled.

"I see, so why are you back here?" Sibil inquired.

Zoran scoffed and retorted, "What, are you a dog now? Simply following me around for no reason? Go get a life and do some real work, Sibil. I’m about to cast a trap spell in this vicinity, and you’re being an eyesore right now!"

"King Devon asked me to monitor you closely, Zoran, so you’d better get used to seeing my face often," the man smirked.

Zoran ignored him and focused on casting the spell around the cave, his mind still busy with devising a plan to escape Sibil’s tailing.

"The dragon, do you think our King can truly manage its power?" Sibil casually asked.

"He has angel blood just like Prince Ezekiel. So why even ask such a stupid question?"

"But his blood is no longer divine given that his father turned into a demon. King Devon is also a demon now..." Sibil reasoned.

"Look at you, doubting our Master’s power. Weren’t you entrusted with handling the experiment and the extraction of the dragon’s soul? If he heard your doubts, you’ll be damned."

Zoran turned to him and firmly stated, "If you persist in following me, I won’t hesitate to inform the Master about your doubts..."

Without waiting for Sibil’s response, Zoran promptly teleported himself to another remote area in the wilderness.
