Chapter 125: Sort Your Feelings Out
Seeing as the Midnight Sun had finally come, Mineah together with her Shadow Maidens wasted no time in moving into the King’s Palace.
"Finally!" Zaila burst out as they walked the path of the spacious courtyard where Mineah’s Coupling Rites and other special events were held.
They then passed by the throne hall, and there they saw the King’s Residence where they would be staying for the foreseeable future. Passing through yet another gate, it was the first time that Mineah set foot in Nikolai’s residence.
"Welcome, Your Majesty. The King is currently waiting for you inside the Main House, I will be escorting you inside," Gregory greeted as he accommodated their arrival. "As for Lady Dani, Lady Zaila, and Lady Krisha, you three can all kindly follow her to your assigned living quarters." Gregory signaled the servant that would guide her shadow maidens.
"I don’t have a separate residence for myself?" Mineah questioned as she bit her lip. "What if Nikolai and I quarrel? There might be a time when I don’t want to stay inside the king’s bedchamber with him."
"Hmm... You’re breaking my heart, Mine," Nikolai interrupted, appearing out of the blue. "Such a scenario hasn’t even crossed my mind."
Mineah blushed while her shadow maidens chuckled at her reaction. Scoffing, she promptly signaled them to go away. Seeing as they were no longer needed, the three, together with Gregory, quickly left the area, leaving Mineah to quickly compose herself before sporting a smile as she approached Nikolai.
"Well, I don’t want us to quarrel too, but I’ve heard that’s inevitable in married life," she chuckled as she lovingly hugged him. "They even say that it sometimes spices up and strengthens the relationship. Also, why are you here? Gregory said that you’ll be waiting inside the Main house."
"Well, I thought that would at least make me look patient, but the wait was starting to kill me," Nikolai snorted with a pout. "I couldn’t help myself, so I’m here welcoming you with open arms... Only to hear you talking about wanting separate living quarters."
Mineah chuckled as she raised her head to meet his intense gaze.
"That’s no good," he firmly stated. "If ever we quarrel, then you won’t have a choice except to sleep in the same bedchamber as mine regardless."
"Alright then. I’ll sleep on the bed," Mineah chuckled with a teasing tune. "I’ll just have it be off-limits to you whenever you cross me. Or maybe I can just kick you out. That works both ways..."
"Come now," Nikolai hummed. "Enough with that. Let me give you an actual tour around the king’s residence first."
Mineah nodded, and the two of them began walking around with their hands holding onto one another.
"The king’s residence occupies half of the main palace," Nikolai began as he showed her around. "You can do whatever you want in here, Mine. You can have anything built on any available space that you find. Or if you want to make some changes, then feel free to do so."
Mineah hummed in acceptance of the fact. She was aware that Corvus City, the capital of Valcrez, was bordered by four mountains. The main administrative building and the king’s palace, Corvus Palace, was situated beneath Mount Orion.
"I had something built for you," Nikolai suddenly said as they walked in another direction. "I think you might like it."
Hearing his words, Mineah held her breath as they neared what looked like a conservatory to her. Walking in, she gasped as they entered the spacious greenhouse with a glass roof letting a bit of light into the area. "This..."
"I had it made for you while we were waiting for the Midnight Sun. I heard you love plants and collecting herbs and wild plants, so I figured you’ll appreciate such a building," Nikolai hummed in approval. "You brought some with you, right? Here, you can have a private garden of your own. It’s a huge space, and there’s also a secret passage from here going directly to our living quarters. Do you like it?"
Mineah bit her lower lip as she looked around. By the time she turned to Nikolai, her eyes were practically twinkling with possibilities.
She burst out, "I love it!"
She then subconsciously pounced on him. Wrapping her arms around his neck, she tiptoed up to reach his lips and kissed him. It was simply amazing. The space he gave her was way more spacious than her own private garden back in Ebodia!
Seconds passed, and their kiss deepened as Mineah felt the hunger on Nikolai’s lips. "I want you so badly, Mine," he hummed after he released her lips just so he could pepper her neck with even more kisses.
"That tickles," Mineah chortled as she tilted her head back so he could gain more access. She could feel his body heat burning her alive, and she wondered if she could even control her own body the longer this constant contact with him went.
Eventually, she decided that she should play it safe. Gently pushing Nikolai away before he could even go further, she smiled. "Come now. Tour me around first," she cheekily pointed out. "I’m sure you still have to do your duties soon, Lai..."
Nikolai stared at her intently, one that struck straight through into her soul. She waited for his response, and it would seem that she’d have as he then let out a heavy sigh and pouted. "This is why I’m often inside your dreams," he complained. "In dreams, you’re more aggressive, Mine."
"Let’s not rush things, alright? I want you to sort your feelings out first," she genuinely stated. "How many times do I have to tell you that I can’t afford to lose you? I need you, Lai."
Well, she needed him alive to end all her curses, but for some reason, she couldn’t imagine life without him already. She was falling for him.
"Why do you need me, Mine?" Nikolai directly asked. "Is it because I’m the answer to end your curse?"
Mineah nodded, and she saw just how quickly his face darkened. In response, she gently cupped his face and caressed it with her palms. "It’s not only because of my curse Lai."
She then looked straight into his eyes and stated, "I don’t want to lose you because I believe I’m falling in love with you, Lai. The mere thought of losing you breaks my heart. I... I want to protect you with everything I have. I want to stay by your side until my last breath..."
"Mine... I believe that you don’t need to wo-"
"Shhh..." Mineah stopped him from talking with a shush.
"As I said, take your time to sort your feelings out. I understand your situation, Lai. And again, I won’t take the risk of you dying on me. I will do everything that I can so that you’ll fall deeply in love with me," she declared with a confident smile before leaning forward to give him a chaste kiss on his lips.
