Chapter 242: Chapter 210 Harvesting the Queen

On the vast flat "summit," the Great Knights looked at the scattering bugs and collapsed to the ground, gasping for breath.

Every ounce of their strength had been completely drained, as the battle had never ceased since they descended underground.

Injuries and death were unavoidable.

Soldiers celebrated as they gazed at the distant flickering flames below, knowing that their Lord must have achieved the final victory.

"Mr. Dome?"

Lance, clutching a Mystic Rune bow, had been keeping an eye on the white-haired wizard since the battle began. The wizard was responsible for many of the Lord’s research tasks, making his life extremely valuable.

Ever since the fight started, Lance noticed Dome did little more than cast the Illumination Spell when necessary to improve the soldiers’ visibility; otherwise, he mainly applied enchantments to his two-handed sword, then charged forward with it in hand.

A Wizard Warrior.

Even though Dome’s swordsmanship was a mess, what if this Wizard Warrior had applied some heavy armor magic on himself? His slender body bore the onslaught of three bugs, then he split their thick shells with his enchanted two-handed sword.

His combat efficiency wasn’t high, but his ferocious and brutal style of fighting truly ignited the Great Knights’ passion for battle.

After all, he was constantly glowing under the Illumination Spell—how could anyone not see him?

So, noticing the white-haired wizard seemed ready to move, Lance approached him proactively.

"I need to find the Lord," the old wizard said, "He needs me!"

If he didn’t go now, who knew to what extent the Flying Dragon would burn? Since the fight started, the Flying Dragon had been spewing flames recklessly, incinerating knowledge itself!

The destruction pained Dome.

"I’ll go with you," Lance didn’t reject Dome’s decision and was also very concerned about the Lord.

The situation seemed to show that the Lord had emerged victorious, but that didn’t mean he had not been injured.

Lance instructed the soldiers to clear the battlefield, prioritizing the rescue of their brothers. Those who had died could only be cremated, to prevent their restlessness in death from becoming a Calamity.

It was the living they needed to focus on, for a Magic Potion could heal the gravely injured quickly, but some wounds might be beyond healing, such as damaged eyeballs or severed limbs.

This was quite peculiar; some disabilities could be instantly cured by a Magic Potion, even amputated legs, but sometimes a severed finger couldn’t regrow.

Of course, they hoped all injuries could be healed.

The two mounted a Catastrophe Warhorse and delved deeper into the darkness along the steep slope.

Dome continuously cast the Illumination Spell, illuminating countless bug corpses charred to cinders by flames, piling up into mountains of carcasses and ruins, the acrid smell compelling them to hold their breath often.

It was then that the two realized that the bugs they faced were just a small fraction; the Lord and the Flying Dragon had drawn the vast majority away. Otherwise, they would have been overwhelmed by a sea of bugs in an instant.

The Lord had reacted quickly, nipping a potential infestation that could have swept through the Red Dragon Foothills in the bud—yet there was still much to be done.

Some bugs would suddenly attack along the way, but without their organized ranks, they stood no chance against Lance’s rapid arrow fire and were easily killed, ending on their backs with legs in the air.

They stopped in front of what remained of the Hive Queen’s nest, much of it destroyed by flames.

"It’s practically an art treasury," Dome looked up at the nest in awe.

Lance was skeptical.

He couldn’t see any connection between art and something that looked like an ant and beehive combined, magnified thousands of times.

"They really developed into a tribe!" Dome exclaimed, seemingly invigorated by any form of knowledge.

Flying Dragons circled overhead, declaring the region was thoroughly under control, and allowed the two to feel at ease.

Entering the bug nest, the dense swarm unexpectedly did not attack, but instead from a path, a scene which surprised both of them.

The difference was that Lance was in fear, while Dome was in joy.

In the bug nest hall, still unbearable from the high temperature of the flames, Lind sat on a rock, eyes closed, sensing something.

In front of him was a woman’s torso with the lower half severed.

She was completely wrapped and hanged by chains, the chains enveloping her like a cocoon, leaving only her head exposed, with occasional glimpses of her fair skin at the waist through the gaps in the chains.

Those eyes also drew attention, the numerous eyeballs chilling to behold.

"You’ve come?" Lind opened his eyes, "How many of our brothers have fallen?"

He directed this question at Lance.

"Seven!" Lance gritted his teeth, "The vast majority are injured, but Magic Potion will heal them."

This was a victory, won with fewer against many, but each person who died had been a familiar face who had followed him for a long time; he should be happy about the victory, but he was also sad.

"I will hold the highest funeral ceremony, everyone will remember them," Lind said.

"Thank you for your kindness."

Everyone will die, and Lind wasn’t sure when his time would come, but to have the deceased leave with the highest glory was the last thing he could do as a Lord.

Those still alive in this world and still persevering probably only have the last bit of motivation to "live a little longer" and to "die with a bit more dignity."

Even the Deities in the high heavens will exit the stage, the Ring of Magic with infinite power will shatter, civilization will eventually turn to ashes, there’s nothing in the world that lasts forever.

If he was to die one day, Lind hoped, at the very least, not to be taken down by players in the role of a boss, and then have them stand in front of his corpse and say, "He didn’t even drop good equipment!"

"This is your harvest?" Dome waited for the two to finish their exchange before speaking.

He looked toward the still bleeding Queen, completely devoid of the strength to resist, only her will still striving against Lind.

"I’m trying to establish contact with her," Lind nodded, not denying Dome’s description, "a captive."

Since she was some sort of creature, she should be able to be enslaved like "Flying Dragons," "Catastrophe Warhorse," "Volcano Monster Bird," and so on.

Humans should also be within the range of enslavement by the Lost Soul Chains, but Lind had never considered doing so; the Queen was the first demi-human creature he tried to enslave.

"Her mind is very chaotic, and I’m trying to find something useful inside," Lind spoke, massaging his head with some difficulty, as the noisy and chaotic memories poured in when their spirits connected, he almost couldn’t bear the overwhelming emotions.

It seemed as if the Queen had absorbed the minds of the entire bug swarm into her brain.

"May I take a look around?" Dome asked, somewhat eager to explore the bug nest.

"Wait!" Lind closed his eyes.

After a while, a centipede half the size of the previous one ran up, but it was still twice the size of the Catastrophe Warhorse, like a battle chariot clad in heavy armor.

"It will carry you to every corner of the bug nest," Lind said, "I’m looking forward to hearing some good news from you."

Dome also looked at Lind, "It seems your harvest is substantial."

Lind’s harvest was indeed enormous, he had captured the Hive Queen and then trapped her with the Lost Soul Chains, which essentially meant he had indirect control over the entire swarm.

Now this underground world had begun to open up to him preliminarily.
