"Master’s gem has arrived. I repeat master’s gem has arrived, clear the pathway for her, and report to Master Alanis immediately." The chauffeur said with his walky-talky.

The moment her limo stopped at the back entrance, Harlow could see more than seven men in black suits rushing towards her.

All six men surrounded her car and one opened the door for her. "Milady." He stretched his hands and Harlow held it for support as she stepped out of the car. She looked nothing more than royalty, the decorations used were that of royalty.

She has heard of the Hamiltons going bankrupt, how can Alanis and his grandmother afford everything they have done? These things were worth hundreds of millions.

As Harlow walked with the men, her blue sparkling dress flowed through the stairs like water. She looked nothing less than a princess from a fantasy book or movie.

The men in black suit surrounded her, till they arrived in the hall. When they reached the entrance of the gala, "I almost thought you wouldn’t attend tonight." She heard his voice. The last person she wanted to see tonight, yet the first person she had hoped to see too. His usual mischievous grin hugged his lips.

He was in a well-ironed black suit, his hair neatly styled to the side while a few strands fell on his face. He wore black gloves.

"Why wouldn’t I, it’s my gala remember?" Harlow said.

"Where are your gloves?" Alanis asked.

"I didn’t want to wear them," Harlow said flatly.

"It seems you didn’t check the dress code for tonight." He smiled dipping his hands in his pocket as he brought out two silver gloves. He gestured her to lift her hands and she did as asked. Alanis didn’t hesitate to remove the ring she had on and her diamond bracelet.

He placed the gloves on her hands before putting her rings and bracelet back on. "You look so beautiful tonight. The most beautiful woman in the building." He smiled.

"My gem." He took out a tiny crown from his pocket and placed it on her head.

"What is this supposed to do? I’m not a high schooler Alanis." Harlow took it off. "This is not some fantasy romance, this is real life and I’m not yours." She said.

Rather than feeling irritated this time, Alanis was amused by her complaints and ungratefulness. He could sit all day and watch her vent her frustration on him while he listened. If only she knows how cute she gets while angry.

"... Know your place, Alanis." She forced the crown back in his hands, held the ham of her dress as she walked away. Harlow was almost at the door when she paused and turned around to look at him, "You know what?" Alanis turned to look at her.

"You’re the ugliest man I’ve ever seen. You’re so ugly I almost puked when I saw you." She stepped in. Alanis only smiled shaking his head slightly as he walked in too. He placed the crown back in his pocket. One way or another, he would wear her this crown tonight and she would be his gem for the rest of the night.

The guards who had seen everything turn from bad to worse shook their heads. No matter how many times their madam disrespects their boss, he still loves her very much. No one dared talk to Alanis Hamilton this way except, of course, Harlow Blackwood.

The man truly was in love...

While Alanis walked back into the building, a familiar figure stepped out from the shadows she was hiding. Claudia almost laughed. These people, they act like they’re so in love, yet here they are fighting like children.

Is this what Alanis rejected her for? He rejected her love for him over a woman who didn’t respect him as much as she did.

Claudia felt so ashamed. Alanis would rather beg her sister than have to accept her love for him.

Claudia’s stomach growled again, another round of vomit threatening to come out but she pushed it back in. She had no idea what she ate to cause this. Tonight is her big night, she couldn’t afford to fall sick tonight.

The hall shimmered with golden chandeliers, and the air carried the scent of luxury, fresh orchids, aged wine, and expensive colognes mingling together.

Harlow moved with effortless grace, her blue sparkling gown cascading like a waterfall behind her. Every step she took demanded attention, and every gaze in the room was drawn to her. The guests whispered amongst themselves, awed by the sheer elegance she radiated.

Alanis, hands in his pockets, trailed a few steps behind her, his dark gaze fixed solely on her figure. Harlow didn’t cower or lower her gaze from anyone, this was her party anyway, so it was normal she greeted everyone in attendance.

The women’s necks and wrists glowed with pears and diamond necklaces. Her new diamond collection.

"Harlow dear, come with me, let me introduce you to our relatives." Grandma Hamilton approached her granddaughter-in-law. Harlow gave one look to Alanis as if waiting for his approval, for a moment the man was stunned. But then he remembered his instructions to her earlier, for tonight she would have to pretend to be his obedient and loving wife before everyone.

Alanis seized the opportunity to do something crazy. He brought out the diamond crown she had rejected earlier and placed it on her hair. Harlow stared at him with wide eyes, but the man before her didn’t seem like he was done with her.

He held her chin and pulled her closer pressing his lips on her forehead. Endless gasps and awws flew from one corner of the room to another. As women in there envied the couple.

"Don’t take so long my villain." He said. Harlow forced a smile and nodded before walking with Charlotte.

Claudia who had just walked into the scene frowned. She didn’t expect the same people who had just fought now to be loving and caring again.

What was happening?

She watched as all of the women admired Harlow and how no one paid attention to her anymore. Everyone acted like she didn’t exist.

She had put in so much effort into making her dress, yet compared to Harlow’s, it looked like trash. She still couldn’t beat her sister who seemed like she hadn’t even put in so much effort into anything.
