THE BILLIONAIRE'S VENGEFUL WIFE RETURNS
Chapter 164: THE REAL BOSS

Chapter 164: THE REAL BOSS

The room fell silent at Lincoln’s words. The staff there stared at each other. Normally, the man does not respect anyone and looks down on everyone. To him, this company needed him and they couldn’t do without him.

He thinks he has a brain next to Miss H. He thinks only he can beat her. He thinks Hamilton Corp will fall without him here.

"And what makes you think that?" Harlow’s voice cut through the silence, cool and unwavering. She held onto Alanis’s arm, a quiet gesture to steady him as his expression darkened. She had no interest in arguing or wasting her time with someone so self-absorbed. After all, she didn’t need his approval, she could fire him with a single word.

Lincoln hesitated for a moment before responding, though his words carried their usual arrogance. "Boss, I mean no offense, but it’s obvious you’re out of your depth. We all know your expertise lies in diamonds, not tech. If your position here is temporary, we understand, but with respect, we’re not sure why you’re even here."

"You don’t speak to my wife like that," Alanis snapped, his glare cold and unyielding.

Lincoln held up his hands as if to feign innocence, though his smirk betrayed him. "I’m sorry, boss, but I’m just stating facts. Everyone here knows the truth, demoting the real brain for a..."

Before he could finish, one of his colleagues grabbed his arm, pulling him back sharply. The man whispered urgently in his ear, clearly aware that Lincoln’s defiance was crossing a dangerous line. The room remained tense, every eye flickering nervously between Harlow and Lincoln.

Harlow didn’t flinch. Her expression remained calm, detached, and completely in control. "You told me these are the highest-paid workers in the company," she said, turning her gaze to Alanis who looked irritated by the man’s words earlier. "Yet they can’t solve a problem as simple as this."

She stepped forward, her heels clicking on the tiled floor, and leaned over one of the computers. On the screen was the half-finished project. She scanned it for a moment, her sharp eyes taking in every detail.

These people were a complete joke, even her father’s worst staff could solve these problems. These were nothing compared to the tough problems she had solved for her father.

Her words hit Lincoln like a slap. His irritation bubbled to the surface, his jaw tightening as he struggled to maintain his composure. This girl, who had no business speaking about things she didn’t understand, was ridiculing the work his team had poured weeks into. The sheer audacity of it made his blood boil.

"Mr. Lincoln," Harlow said, straightening to face him. Her tone was light, almost disinterested, but her gaze pinned him in place like a hawk sizing up its prey.

Lincoln couldn’t hide his disdain any longer. His eyes narrowed, and his lips curled into a sneer. He didn’t even bother to mask his contempt as he stared back at her.

"Yes, Boss?" he asked, his voice dripping with sarcasm. His mouth ached to curse her out so badly. He wanted to put her in her rightful place. But he didn’t dare speak, the look on Alanis’s face was deadly.

They have never seen him in such mood before. The man looked like he could kill anyone who dared disrespect his wife before him again.

"Why don’t we play a game," Harlow said and the pride man frowned further. What is this dense woman talking g about this time?

"What is it?"

"I’ll give you an hour to solve this problem and prove your salary is worth it. If you don’t, you’ll be fired." She stated, but rather than fright, Lincoln laughed out so loud.

His cackle rang around the room, the sheer mock of his laughter echoing in everyone’s ears. This man truly saw himself as a God, his colleagues thought.

"You will not fire me even if I can’t solve it, because you won’t find anyone better than me." He said proudly.

"You can’t even solve the puzzle so why do you think I should solve it?" Harlow smirked. She knew people like this, deviating because he knew he couldn’t solve anything.

He has no idea what he’s doing, all he does is push these people to do the work for him and then take the glory in the end. She knew because in her past life, Lincoln was also in charge and he played the same tricks.

"That is your job, Mr Lincoln," Harlow said calmly.

"And what is your job as the CEO? Aren’t you supposed to know all of these things?" Lincoln challenged and Gus smiled. He knew only Lincoln would put this woman in her place. Only Lincoln can embarrass her back to the pig she came from.

She has no business in the tech world. If she wants a job, she can stick to making diamonds, which are worth millions.

"You’re right." Harlow suddenly said.

"Maybe I was being too harsh on you," Harlow said quickly and Gus bent his head to hide his chuckle. So did Lincoln, he knew this woman didn’t know what she was doing. The audacity to even challenge him in the first place.

"How about this, if I solve the unfinished projects in less than five minutes, you’ll be fired." Everyone’s eyes went wide but they were still yet to believe Harlow could do it.

Maybe she’s just trying to save face.

"That’s impossible." Lincoln barked. He was sure even Miss H couldn’t solve this in five minutes. The project was too hard and it took them weeks to solve half of it and would take them a month or two to crack the remaining half, which made her think a normal diamond maker would be able to solve it.

"It’s okay to just admit it Boss rather than embarrassing yourself any further," Lincoln said, but Harlow didn’t respond and picked up the computer.

She looked at the project again and smiled. "I’ll tell you this if I solve this in five minutes like I’ve said. Then you’ll be fired to never be rehired again. Agreed?" She asked.

"Fine," Lincoln said confidently. He couldn’t wait to see her crumble.

"But if you don’t solve it in five minutes, then you will double my salary and never question me ever again." He added and everyone stared at the man bold enough to challenge the CEO of the company.

A person with the highest authority to fire him at any moment.

"Done," Harlow said.
