THE BILLIONAIRE'S VENGEFUL WIFE RETURNS -
Chapter 163: FIRST DAY OF WORK
Chapter 163: FIRST DAY OF WORK
As the company’s doors swung open, a hush fell over the room. All eyes turned toward the pair who had just entered with their troops of bodyguards. About four huge men were guarding them. Their presence commanded attention, an aura of power, elegance, and undeniable authority. If not for the whispered rumors of Alanis’s recent demotion to an assistant, anyone would have believed they were witnessing the arrival of Halkhalls’ most formidable and perfectly matched power couple.
The dream of every young girl.
They moved with synchronized confidence, their strides purposeful and unyielding. Together, they embodied both allure and dominance, a sight that no one in the room could ignore. Conversations stilled, and even the clatter of keyboards ceased as every employee took a moment to admire the duo.
"Good morning, Boss. Madam," Gus greeted, dipping his head respectfully. Though Alanis was no longer in charge, Gus couldn’t quite bring himself to address him with anything less than deference. Titles aside, everyone in Hamilton Corp knew the truth, this was still his company. He’s the heir to the Hamilton Corp.
He may have lost the title of CEO, but in their eyes, Alanis was no mere assistant. He is a boss.
Harlow, now the official CEO of Hamilton Corp, didn’t need titles to command respect. Her mere presence was enough. She glanced at Gus with a look sharp enough to cut glass. "I want to see the technology experts," she said, her tone decisive.
In the past, a technology expert was her filled. Her little critical and analytical thinking to solve major issues was the reason Hamilton Corp was successful. There’s no way Alanis would have done that alone, no matter the brain he hired.
As a good hacker, she didn’t have to come all the way to the company to solve their issue. She always hacked into their system and solved issues that even the best critical thinkers couldn’t solve.
In all, it was either they took the glory for her work or, Claudia did.
Gus hesitated for a fraction of a second before nodding quickly. "Of course. This way, please."
He turned on his heel, leading the way down the polished hallway. Harlow and Alanis followed their steps in perfect harmony.
As Gus led the way, his mind churned with skepticism. Why did Harlow, the so-called "diamond queen," suddenly have an interest in the technology experts? What could she possibly know about the intricate, high-stakes work they did? Sure, she was now the CEO, but in Gus’s mind, that title was little more than borrowed glory.
The rumor the public had painted Harlow was that she was nothing more than a polished gem. A woman with the wealth of her father and a knack for making herself sparkle. But brains? Strategy? That was Alanis’s domain. Everyone in Hamilton Corp knew that. To Gus, it was clear: Harlow had kept Alanis close not out of loyalty, but because she needed him. He was the real mastermind, the one who solved problems and created solutions. She would take his brilliance and parade it as her own, basking in praise she hadn’t earned.
Gus’s frown deepened as he stole a glance over his shoulder. Alanis followed Harlow silently, his expression calm, unreadable. Gus couldn’t understand why a man as powerful as Alanis would tolerate playing second fiddle, even for a woman like her. To Gus, Harlow was nothing more than an opportunist.
They stopped in front of the double doors leading to the second-floor tech lab. Gus pushed them open, stepping aside for Harlow and Alanis to enter. Inside, the air shifted. The room, filled with the company’s brightest minds, fell into a stunned silence.
The staff rose immediately, their chairs scraping against the polished floor as they bowed their heads in unison. "Good morning, Boss. Mr. Hamilton."
Harlow’s eyes swept across the room, her gaze sharp and assessing. She took her time, studying each face, each posture, as if cataloging their value.
"Are they the critical thinkers?" she asked, her voice calm yet commanding.
"They are," Gus replied, barely masking his disdain. He waited, hoping, almost willing, for her to stumble. Some missteps that would expose her as out of her depth. It would be a good lesson to never be someone you’re not and will ever be.
From the center of the group, a man stepped forward, his confidence palpable. He was tall, broad-shouldered, and carried himself with the air of someone used to being in charge. "Hello, Boss. I’m Lincoln Frazer, the head of this team." His tone was respectful, but his raised chin and narrowed eyes spoke volumes. He didn’t see Harlow as his equal, let alone his superior.
Lincoln led the best critical-thinking team in the company, a group of problem-solvers who had earned their reputations, and their high salaries, through consistent results. But even they were currently struggling with a challenge that had brought the company to the brink.
Lincoln’s gaze flickered briefly to Alanis before settling back on Harlow. In his mind, the real boss was standing a step behind her. Yet here she was, daring to walk into his domain. If only he knew Harlow is the infamous Miss H.
The problem solver and best critical thinker in the world. No one came close to her and the funny thing was that she has refused to work for anyone.
"Hello, Lincoln, I heard you have an issue that’s taking you so long to finish."
Harlow took a step forward, her heels clicking against the floor. Her presence, though understated, filled the room. She tilted her head slightly, her expression unreadable. "Tell me about the problem," she said simply, her tone leaving no room for deflection.
Lincoln’s smirk faltered for just a moment. Who does this woman think she is? Coming here to act like she could solve a problem that even they couldn’t solve.
He had wanted to tell his boss to find Miss H for this problem because her name had been ringing bell in the tech world recently. Miss H, the only woman who singlehandedly rose the Blackwood’s cooperation to the top.
"Uhm, boss, I don’t think you can solve the problem, why don’t we hire Miss H instead," Lincoln said.
