THE BILLIONAIRE'S VENGEFUL WIFE RETURNS -
Chapter 148: THE NEW CEO
Chapter 148: THE NEW CEO
The next morning came and Harlow was greeted by a bright day. She had one of the best sleeps of her life, especially after gulping down the best noodle soup she’d ever tasted in her life. Even their chef back at the Blackwood mansion couldn’t beat Alanis’s noodle soup.
"You’re awake?" She heard his deep voice and her eyes moved to the man seated on the sofa. He was dressed in his black robe, legs crossed as he read through a magazine. His hair was still a little damped, evidence of him just getting out of the shower.
"Enjoying the view, my villain? Should I strike a pose, or is this already perfect for you?" He finally met her gaze and she rolled her eyes.
"Don’t flatter yourself." She said dragging her feet from the bed as she headed for the restroom. Her feet felt a little better this morning. At least she could walk freely.
"For a new CEO, you seem a bit lazy, how can you handle the affairs of the company?" Harlow stopped in her tracks as she stared at him with wide eyes. She had totally forgotten today was so important to her.
Harlow hurried into the bathroom to freshen up and prepare for the day.
Today, she was going to be named the new CEO of Hamilton Corp. It is going to be revealed to not only the company workers but also everyone in Halkhalls.
She could already begin to imagine the uproar from everyone. She couldn’t imagine the headlines that would be created.
"The useless Blackwood daughter now the president of Hamilton Corp."
"The downfall of Hamilton Corp."
The announcement today would be a shocker to the world. Everyone had been curious to know who Alanis’s new replacement would be. The person taking over from me must be a skilled person for a man like Alanis to step down for.
It was no news that Hamilton’s is the company now Challenging the Blackwood’s company when it comes to new day technology. But everyone doubts they would be a rival company, especially since Alanis Hamilton was smitten by one of the Blackwood daughters.
Who it was was yet to be known by the public after his divorce from Harlow and failed engagement to Claudia. Their personal lives have been the talk of the town for weeks now.
Harlow stared at her reflection through the oval-shaped mirror and sighed. Her eyes weren’t as swollen as she had imagined they would be. There is nothing a little makeup cannot fix. She smiled and untied her nightdress as she stepped inside the bathroom.
Once she was done bathing, she hurried back into the bedroom all covered up in a robe only to find the room empty. Harlow dashed into the closet only to see Alanis dressed in a sharp black tailored suit paired with polished leather shoes, he exuded an aura of power and authority. His hair was nearly combed making him look even more breathtaking than ever.
For a moment, How got lost in her stare, "How is your leg?" His words brought her back to her senses and she frowned. She had no right to get lost over the little thing he did.
"Better." She said walking towards her dressing table.
"Then sit let me dress the wound again." He said calmly. Alanis’s eyes were filled with warmth. Ever since he learnt this woman before him was his Harlow he has loved her even more.
"I’m fine." She cut him off.
"If I don’t dress the wound, you might have issues walking later in the day." He said but Harlow didn’t want to listen to him. To him, she was more stubborn than a Bull.
Alanis wondered if this woman was this way in the past. But he doubts. She’s only stubborn to him because she hates him. She irks him on purpose to get a reaction from him.
Alanis didn’t say anything else to her and stepped out of the closet. Harlow sighed when she saw him leave, she stared at her reflection and started drying her wet hair. In no time Alanis returned again and without a word and came to squat before her.
"I told you I could handle it myself."
"And I have decided to care for you until you’re fine, so just let me." He said calmly and started taking out the old bandage from her feet. Being that the cut wasn’t so deep, Harlow’s injury had already dried up. All he needed to do was add a little more ointment and she’ll be fine.
He did just that and applied a new bandage to her legs.
"All done." He smiled, admiring his good works. Harlow pulled her leg from his hold immediately, hiding it beneath her other leg as she turned to face her dressing mirror again.
"Can you now leave so that I can dress up?" She said not meeting his gaze and he nodded with a smile.
Alanis didn’t care how much his Villainess hated him, he could tell there was a little progress in their relationship. At least her hate isn’t as deep as it was before.
"Of course." Harlow watched him walk towards the door and only sighed in relief when he was out.
She continued brushing her hair before tying it into a ponytail. She applied light makeup on her face, covering the swollen eyes that had appeared as a result of her cry.
Harlow took out her robe and started dressing as quickly as she could for fear of Alanis barging in. He was fond of doing that a lot.
She moved within her rack of clothes looking for the perfect office wear. She wasn’t a fashionista, but that didn’t mean she lacked fashion sense. In fact, she was the CEO of her father’s diamond company before he fired her.
After a while of searching, Harlow emerged from the pile of clothes in a tailored navy blue power suit. The look was simple yet commanding, complemented by a pair of black stilettos.
She wore her accessories, a shadow diamond necklace, and earrings, complimenting her clothes. She picked her purse, staring once more at her reflection, before stepping out of the closet.
