"I want to be alone, please leave," Harlow ordered, but the man before her didn’t look like he was going to listen to her.

This rude bastard... She let out a frustrating sigh as she tried to control the rage bubbling in her.

Alanis is the last person she wants to talk to or see, but he has refused to let her be.

Alanis lazy eyes met hers, "Stop being stubborn and come here." He held her wrist pulling her close till her body clashed against his. Before Harlow could protest she lost her balance immediately. Her slender form swung in the air and the only thing that stopped her from falling was Alanis’s strong arm around her waist and thighs.

"Put me down! She commanded trying to wiggle out of his hold, but the man holding her rather started to walk casually towards the sofa, seeming unaffected by her incessant requests.

Harlow felt her bottom hit the soft sofa gently and then the large man squatted before her. "Raise your legs," Alanis said softly but she didn’t move. She frowned her face as she stared at him.

"I told you I can take care of myself. Besides I have a maid to do the job." She argued.

"Why would I let a maid take care of my wife when I’m very capable? I’ll be going against our agreement if I don’t perform my husband duties." Alanis said lifting her leg himself as he placed it on his knees.

Harlow placed her hands between her thighs to hide whatever was going to come to his view. She had no idea what this man was planning but she would never let him do anything to her.

"Don’t bother, I already know what it looks and tastes like." Alanis suddenly said and she blushed hard. Harlow tried to hide her embarrassment. In the past after whatever they did, she never got to see him again to even practice being embarrassed.

He suddenly met her gaze and smiled. "Already blushing so hard for me."

"I’m not blushing for you." She eyed him and he chuckled.

"I told you nothing will happen without your consent. But don’t think I would hesitate if you get drunk and force yourself on me." He stated and started taking out the bandage slowly.

"That will never happen again," Harlow assured. She would never let herself get drunk again for this man to take advantage of her.

"What happened to your legs?" He had been meaning to ask since he saw her limp earlier, but he couldn’t speak to her because she was mad at him.

Harlow bit her lower lips, she was contemplating whether to tell him Lia had hurt her while she walked away. She didn’t need him to fight for her. She could fight her own battles herself.

"Nothing." She voiced out and he nodded understanding she didn’t want to speak about it and avoiding pestering her more. The last thing Alanis wanted was to irk her after trying to calm her down a little bit.

He applied the ointment on the wound gently, blowing it up when she whimpered. Alanis covered the open injury with a bandage before letting her legs go gently. As he was about to stand, he heard her stomach growl. Both people stared at each other quietly.

Alanis still wanted to stand when another growl came out, sounding louder than the last.

Harlow bit her inner cheeks as she avoided his gaze. She hasn’t had anything to eat since this afternoon after the fight between them.

"Come with me, I’ll get you something to eat," Alanis said standing from where he sat.

"You don’t have to worry, I’ll get it myself." She declined immediately.

"I doubt you can stand not to think of getting food on your own. Besides, all of the maids have retired to their rooms early today." He said.

"I... I can still manage." He had no idea why this woman was so stubborn. Alanis didn’t listen to her anymore and picked her up from the couch and stepped out of the room.

Harlow didn’t try to fight him this time and just let him do whatever he wanted. She didn’t have the strength to fight him anymore, it’s not like he would listen to her.

When they arrived in the kitchen, Alanis placed his wife on the stool there before picking an apron.

"What are you doing?" Harlow asked as she watched him fold his sleeves before wearing the apron.

"When we made our first deal, you said you weren’t great at cooking and I promised to cook for you." He said. She couldn’t believe he remembered everything they said that day. She said those things so that he wouldn’t want her but he still did.

It’s not like she’s ever going to cook for him anyway. She smiled, still unable to believe this spoilt brat would be a good cook.

"You don’t have to stress yourself with anything because of a stupid promise. There may be some leftovers in the kitchen, I can manage that." She said quietly. As Harlow looked around, she couldn’t find any maid around. He was right, their maids have really retired early, but who asked them to retire?

"Who said I’m stressing? I’m hungry too." Alanis said calmly.

He brought out a big bowl from the locker and started chopping a few things. Harlow sat quietly as she watched him cook the meal. In the past, she would have fainted from Alanis cooking for her, but right now...

It didn’t take long and he was done. The aroma from the food already made her mouth water. Harlow didn’t have to taste it to know it was good.

Alanis dropped the bowl of chicken noodle soup and Harlow’s mouth watered even more. The food looked so appetizing and delicious.

"Bon appetit." He said as he sat across from her. Harlow picked up the spoon and took a sip of the soup. She closed her eyes to let its flavor settle on her lips. It was super delicious. Even she couldn’t cook a noodle chicken soup this good.

She dived into the meal without warning, devouring every inch of it, while the man seated far from her watched her with a smile on his lips.

It was the first time he had seen a peaceful expression on her face, an expression he wished could last forever.
