If she remembers correctly, he wished they would be together. He always wished his father would come home to them. Harlow shook her head. This is not the thought of her son or her other children she had lost because of this man.

This was her selfish thinking. She would never give Alanis another chance again. Not in this life or the next. He does not deserve it.

"You flatter me, Mr Hamilton." She laughed and a tear rolled down the corner of her eyes. Alanis wanted to wipe them away, but he knew he couldn’t. It’s clear she was hurting. He could only imagine the amount of pain he put her through. All through her life, all she’s known was pain and sorrow.

"Love?" She laughed. "You know nothing about love?"

"I don’t need your love. I’m not interested in that." She picked the the big book on the couch and walked away with the painting still in her other hand.

Alanis didn’t follow her, he couldn’t. He just watched her retreating figure climb the stairs. He didn’t know what to make of this whole situation. His wife hates him more than she hates the devil.

The pain he had caused her was unrepairable. There was nothing he could do that would make up for the pain he caused her.

But he knew one thing for sure. He was ready to love her again. To give her his all.

The lock clicked twice and she fell by the door of her bedroom. Harlow felt stupid, she felt like a fool. How did Alanis even believe everything she said? How did he not call her crazy or a mad woman?

She cried silently as she stared at the image of her son. He didn’t deserve the punishment he went through. The sleepless nights because of his illness. The days he would pass out and wake up looking for his father.

That was what killed her the most. After everything Alanis did to her son, he still loved him so much. He still cried for his father no matter how many times he dismissed him, no matter how many unanswered calls.

Harlow was still in her thoughts when her cell phone rang. It was Layla.

"Lay." She picked up the call wiping her tears gently.

"What’s wrong Harl, are you okay?" Lay asked worriedly from the other end.

"I’m fine," Harlow said calmly. She would not make the mistake of talking about the last anymore. She was in the present, it’s not like anyone would believe her.

"I’m sorry about that night, Andrew had begged to see you and there was no other way to reach you without your husband finding out," Layla explained. She hadn’t been able to call Harlow since that day because she felt terrible for setting her best friend up.

"Harlow, he loves you so much. Why end up with someone who doesn’t care about you, than someone who actually loves you?" Layla asked. She was tired of the Harlow and Alanis rollercoaster. She wanted her best friend to be happy, not sad all the time.

She would do anything to make Harlow happy even if it meant setting her up with countless other men.

"Did he also put you up to this?" Harlow asked. She couldn’t believe the man that covered his face that night was Andrew. No wonder he talked about running away together.

"No, not this. I called because of the news online. What happened to Claudia?" Lay asked.

"What happened to her?" Harlow asked. Has she done something stupid this time? She wondered.

The sister she knows would go to any length to gain attention from anyone. "According to the news, she was involved in a ghastly car accident and might not make it. How did you not hear about it?" Lay asked.

In truth, Harlow wasn’t one that followed the news unless it was important. She barely cared about celebrity news and whatever was on the trends.

Still talking with Layla, another call came through. It was from her stepmother.

"Lay, I’ll call you back, I need to take this call." She said calmly and picked up the call.

"You ingrate, your sister has just been involved in an accident and yet you’re in your house laughing and dancing about it." Elisa’s stern voice was heard from the other end. Harlow said nothing since she was already used to her talks by now.

"I know you hate me and your sister. But can’t you at least have a human conscience for once Harlow?" Elisa continued.

"Claudia says she wants to see you, I need you in the hospital right now." She said and hung up before Harlow could respond. She could have declined to go to the hospital but she wanted to see her manipulative sister herself.

Harlow changed wore her coat, picked her bag, and stepped out of her room. When she arrived in the lounge, Alanis was no longer there. She walked through the lounge and out of the estate.

"Are you heading somewhere madam?" The chauffeur asked and she nodded. He was the same man who took Claudia to the hospital too.

"Yes, the hospital you took my sister to," Harlow said and he bowed.

When they arrived at the hospital, she stepped out of the car and walked to the receptionist there. "I’m here for Claudia Blackwood." She said to the woman.

"And who are you?"

"Her step-sister, Harlow." She smiled.

"Please come this way, Miss Harlow. While you speak to the patient, please do not say anything that could trigger our patient as she’s in a critical condition at the moment." The nurse said.

"She can speak," Harlow asked not surprised at all. She knew this was all a show, but she was here to let her sister know she knew it was all a game and nothing more. Claudia cannot play her anymore, not in this life.

As they approached the ward where her sister was, Harlow saw Frank and Elisa stepping out of the room.
