The painting showed the image of his little self and he wondered who painted it. Whoever painted this must be a pro, because these looked exactly like him. Alanis smiled.

"Who would be foolish to hide such wonderful work?" He murmured and then a thought came to him. Maybe it’s that silly wife of his. Could she paint?

At this point, he wasn’t surprised anymore. His wife was multitalented and he was so proud of her. He was about to hang the painting on the wall when he saw a writing beneath it.

"I miss you my baby Alex. I’m sorry I couldn’t give you the best life. But I will never forget you,

Love mummy..."

His hands vibrated nervously as he read through the written words over and over again.

Was this some trick in this universe?

Who was playing these games with him?

Who wanted to see him go crazy?

He stepped out of the room only to be greeted by Ava who was with a first aid kit in her hands. She had only just finished treating her Miss Harlow’s injury when she saw her master step out of the drawing room.

"Good day master Alanis." Ava greeted with a bow, she stared at the painting in her master’s hands and smiled. He must have found the painting her Miss Harlow drew.

Oh, how romantic... She thought.

"Miss Harlow’s painting." Ava beamed.

"My wife painted this?" Alanis asked and she nodded. She remembered the story behind this painting. Harlow had talked about this being her son named Alex, but Ava thought she had only said that to hide her true feelings for Alanis.

One, she wasn’t even pregnant yet to know what her child would look like.

"Yes, Miss Harlow said it’s her son from before. But I don’t believe her Master. I think it’s you and she’s just..."

"Where is she?" Alanis asked cutting her mid-way.

"I... In the lounge reading." He said nothing else and started walking towards the lounge. He needed to confirm something he dreaded more than ever.

He had been thinking of he could still face his wife after everything he did to her and the answer had always been no. He couldn’t face his Harlow, he couldn’t even look at her after the hurt he put her through.

Every day up until now he has blamed himself for everything that happened. It was all his fault. If only he showed a little care.

When he arrived in the lounge, he was greeted by his wife seated peacefully as her green eyes scampered through the words, taking in the rules and plotting how to use them against the Hamiltons.

Alanis didn’t know what to say. Should he ask if she’s relived this life before? Alanis shook his head. That would be the most ridiculous question.

What if she hadn’t lived this life? What if all of these are just...

Alanis didn’t know what to think anymore.

"What do you want?" She suddenly asked shifting her eyes from the rule book. She had no idea why Alanis was staring at her like she was some ghost. Has he seen an actual ghost?

Harlow’s eyes fell from his face and landed on the painting in his hands. She dropped the book and snatched it away from him. This is the only memory she has of her son Alex and she will never let him ruin this like he ruined her life.

"Why do you have this?" She asked holding the painting next to her heart.

"Why does my painting have a different name?" Alanis asked indifferently.

"Who says it’s you?" Came her words and he chuckled.

"If that isn’t me, then who then is it? That’s a clear picture of me when I was a child. Just tell me, my villain, are you already in love with me?" Amidst his calm demeanor, there was a brewing storm inside of him.

Alanis just wanted to know one thing. Is she his Harlow? The one he had hurt in the past?

Was she the wife he owes his life to?

Harlow knew her explanation to him would make no sense but she went on about it. She has hoped to give him a piece of her mind since the day her son died, but she never got the chance to. She wanted to see him regret his actions, to see him pay for everything he did to them.

"This image is not you, it’s the image of my Alex, the one you brutally murdered because of your negligence." His indifferent demeanor didn’t change, but his heart raced so wildly that he was scared she would hear it.

This is his Harlow...

The one woman he has longed to see and apologize to. Just like him, she remembered everything from their past, and that is why she hated him so much. This explains everything.

Alanis wanted to apologize to her, but he held himself. He couldn’t tell her he was the one and that she wasn’t mad at all. He couldn’t tell her he was also reliving this life again and that is why he was different.

He couldn’t tell her he regretted everything he did and the only reason he stayed away from her was because he loved her and was still in denial of his feelings. Alanis moved his hands through his hair as he took in a deep breath.

"... You freaking asshole. And you wonder why I hate you?" Harlow panted trying to catch her breath. She felt relieved having downloaded everything she wanted to say to him.

"But we don’t have a child yet." He said calmly. "Even if your words are true and I did hurt you in the past, that is another Alanis, not me. I’ve never once hurt you now. I’ve loved and done everything for you, why do I have to pay for another man’s sins?" Harlow was silent for a while.

Maybe he’s right. This isn’t the Alanis from her past. He’s not the man that had hurt her. This man is different... But she frowned at her thoughts immediately. She refused to be convinced otherwise. Whether him or her past Alanis, they’re both the same.

"It doesn’t matter you’re all the same." She said. "Now you know why I would never love you no matter what." She said coldly.

"If you’re reliving this life again, don’t you think it’s the universe giving you a second chance at love? To correct everything that went wrong before?" Alanis asked calmly.

"The only wrong thing in my life that needs to be corrected is you." She barked.

He hates that he has to lie to her again, but he knows one thing for sure, if he tells her the truth, she won’t think twice about leaving. And this time, he might lose her forever.

He didn’t want that. He has fallen madly in love with this woman to lose her. He couldn’t go through that torture and punishment again.

Now he understands what she felt when he treated her like trash in the past.

"I want to love you Harlow, please let me." His voice was low as he took a few steps close to her. "I don’t know anything about this past Alanis who had hurt you badly. But if I knew him, I’m sure my fist would be dislocated as well as his face." He said now standing before her.

"Let me teach you what love is. I promise to love you with all of my heart in this life and the next to come." Harlow shook her head, this couldn’t be happening.
