THE BILLIONAIRE'S VENGEFUL WIFE RETURNS -
Chapter 110: SHOOT ME
Chapter 110: SHOOT ME
"Then welcome to my world," Harlow said, her voice steady. Her green eyes blazed with uncontained fury as she spat the words she’d longed to say. "Because not only have I fallen out of love with you, I hate you. I hate you so much that if I had a gun, I could shoot you."
Alanis’s smile widened, slow and deliberate, a devil’s grin that only deepened the rage simmering inside her. Without a word, he leaned back in his chair, his movements calm and measured, and then, to everyone’s shock, he reached into his coat. A metallic clink shattered the tense silence as he tossed a gun onto the golden table.
"Huh!" Ava who was standing near the table, gasped sharply, her hands flying to her mouth. Her heart pounded against her ribcage, and a cold sweat began to form on her brow. Panic gripped her as her wide eyes darted between her mistress and her master. This was spiraling into chaos, a danger far beyond anything she could handle.
Harlow couldn’t have meant an actual gun, she could be bluffing as always, but of course, her master was prepared for it. In all her life, this is the closest she has been to an actual gun.
Her stomach churned with fear as she stared at the gun, gleaming under the chandelier’s soft light. Surely Miss Harlow wouldn’t do it. Surely she wouldn’t pull the trigger. But the hatred in her eyes told another story, a story Ava couldn’t bring herself to believe.
She took a step back, trembling.
Maybe she should get help. Yes, that was what she would do. But who could she call? Who could stop this couple’s madness?
Grandma Hamilton. Ava thought and nodded in agreement. The old woman was the only one who could talk sense into them, the only one who could diffuse this firestorm before it consumed them all.
Her thoughts spun in frantic circles as she hesitated, unsure if leaving the room would only make things worse. What if when she leaves Harlow will actually pull the trigger? Who would be here to witness and stop her then?
What Ava couldn’t understand was why her Miss Harlow hated her master Alanis so much.
Why couldn’t she see what Ava saw? Alanis had done so much for them and helped them in ways no one else could or would.
But to Harlow, none of it mattered. No amount of Alanis’s help, no grand gesture, no act of kindness could ever erase the grief that consumed her. Her hatred ran deeper than any favor he could grant. His life, his death, was the only currency that could pay for the death of her children.
Harlow’s hand twitched at her side, her jaw clenched as she glared at him. Alanis, calm as ever, leaned forward, resting his elbows on the table. His dark eyes glimmered with challenge, daring her, pushing her closer to the edge.
"Shoot me," he said, his voice soft, almost tender, yet laced with deadly certainty.
"This gun has six bullets, there’s no escape for me once you pull the trigger." Alanis’s voice rang, darker than ever and filled with an unexplained malice. "This is your last chance to get rid of the man you hate the most, the man you despise. The man you want to hurt so badly." He was pushing her to the edge, pushing her to her limits.
"If you don’t kill me today, then you will never be free from me. You’ll remain mine for eternity." Even if she’d told him how much she hated him, Alanis still didn’t want to believe that. He may have hurt her in the past, but that is a different Harlow. The woman he knows is meant to love him, to be obsessed with him.
How the hell do things change?
What sort of game was this?
What trick was this?
Harlow stared at the gun her eyes glowed with mischief. This was a ticket to her freedom, to her revenge. She leaned in and picked the weapon from the table. Her face was devoid of any emotion. No one could tell what was running in her mind, not even the devil.
"And don’t be afraid, you will not get arrested for killing me. Everything I own is in your name as my legal wife." Alanis added and she stared at him with narrowed eyes. Was this man not afraid to die?
Did he not see he was on the losing end? What is his aim in promising her a good life even after killing him?
Did he think she wouldn’t pull the trigger? Harlow smirked. This man must see her as a fool then. She smiled and pointed the gun at him.
Ava who saw her miss Harlow point the gun at her master Alanis almost peed in her pants. She has never been this scared in her life. She was shaking like a person with a seizure.
"Miss Harlow, please don’t do it! Don’t pull the trigger!" Ava’s voice cracked as she cried out, her trembling hands clasped together in a desperate plea. Her heart felt as if it were being squeezed in a vice, pounding so fast she thought it might give out at any moment. She could barely breathe, her chest heaving with panic as her wide, tear-filled eyes darted between Harlow and Alanis.
But Harlow didn’t respond. She didn’t even flinch. Her hand was steady, her face carved from stone as she stared down the man sitting so arrogantly across from her.
Ava’s panic only grew, her breaths coming in short, sharp gasps. What could she do now? Who could she call? Her thoughts raced, a thousand half-formed plans swirling uselessly in her mind. She paced the length of the dining room like a caged bird as if that would do anything. But no one paid her any attention.
Harlow, however, tightened her grip on the gun. She didn’t see the table, the room, or even Ava’s panicky pacing. All she saw was the man before her, the man who had destroyed her, the man who had failed their children, the man she hated with every fiber of her being.
Her knuckles whitened as she pulled the lever. The deafening crack of a gunshot shattered the air, echoing off the gilded walls.
Ava’s scream died in her throat as the world tilted around her. The sound of the gun was too much, too sharp, too real. Her legs gave out beneath her, and she crumpled to the floor in a heap.
