Chapter 207: Wasting No Time

---

The group returned to the Reign Mansion just as the dawn was breaking. The sky was a beautiful gradient of deep blue and soft pink, with the first light of the day gently illuminating the landscape. It was almost 5 AM, and the air was crisp and cool. Jonathan had been waiting anxiously for their return, his worry etched deeply into his features. The ladies had insisted on staying up, but when he heard that Elias was already found, he had forced them to their rooms to rest.

Jonathan caught the sound of footsteps near the entrance and immediately stood up. His butler, who had stubbornly accompanied him, sighed in relief as the group entered the mansion. A small smile crept onto his lips, observing the young man walking with Evelyn.

"What took you guys so long?" Jonathan asked his son. Zevian shook his head, indicating he would speak about it later. Jonathan heaved a small sigh and glanced at the butler, who understood his mission.

"We have already prepared clothes and a room for Young Master," the butler said with a smile.

"Thank you." Evelyn nodded gratefully. Turning to Elias, she patted his shoulder and said, "You must be tired. Go wash up and sleep."

Elias nodded, hesitation visible on his face. Now that many people were aware of his real identity, he couldn’t help but feel uncomfortable around them. And Ronan’s glare, which had been fixed on him ever since they met, made him feel restless.

"This way," the butler gestured toward the corridor. With a sigh, Elias nodded and followed him.

Evelyn watched him, a sigh escaping her lips as he disappeared behind the corridors. She felt he’d be more comfortable in their house than here in the mansion. But they couldn’t move right away since Gracia was safer here.

"You guys should rest too," Jonathan addressed all of them. They were both physically and mentally drained, so he suggested for Ronan and Damien to rest here.

"No, thank you, Mr. Reign. I will return to my penthouse," Ronan politely rejected the offer. He was not used to sleeping anywhere other than his territory. It had been a habit since childhood, and though there was no danger here, it was still a stranger’s den.

"Don’t worry. I will stay over, father-in-law," Damien said with a cheeky smile.

Jonathan scowled at him, hating the way he had started addressing him ever since that fake marriage with his daughter, Natalie. If not for her safety in that mafia country, he would have never agreed to it, and now he was making him regret it.

"Show him the guest room," Jonathan told Zevian.

"Guest room? I will be sleeping in your daughter’s room!" Damien continued to tease, crossing a line that made Jonathan clench his fist, ready to punch him.

"Stop that nonsense!" Even Zevian was pissed at Damien’s words. Grabbing his arm, he dragged him upstairs. "You will surely lose your teeth before returning if you keep up this play."

The trio heard the best friends bickering all the way. Once they were out of sight, Evelyn looked at Jonathan and smiled, "You should be sleeping too." Turning to Ronan, she added, "I will see him out."

Jonathan nodded with a small smile. Patting her head in an attempt to convey that she did well, he walked toward his room.

Evelyn then turned to Ronan and tagged him, leading the way to the large wooden doors. "I will see you tomorrow," Ronan said with a small smile. They weren’t done with Sophia yet, and he had no plans of stopping until he felt his half-sister would receive her deserved justice.

Evelyn nodded with a smile. "Thank you. I know how much you hate Elias but still accompanied us to save him," she expressed.

Ronan couldn’t help but sigh. He was still conflicted about Elias, as he was still somehow responsible for Annabelle’s death. Maybe if he had stopped his mom, they could have saved her.

"Trust me, Elias must have his side of that incident too," Evelyn said, sensing what was running through his mind. "I am sure he would have saved her if he wasn’t tricked by his mother."

"I hope so," Ronan replied. Elias would need to confess exactly what happened that night, even if he was haunted by it, and he was sure Evelyn would help him find the whole truth about Annabelle’s death.

"How about you go sightseeing with Master Igor tomorrow? He mentioned he would only be staying for two days this morning," Evelyn suggested with a small smile. Spending time together with his grandfather might clear his head.

"I would rather rest at home than accompany him," Ronan murmured, shaking his head. "And I am sure he would not enjoy my company too. We only end up arguing."

"True." Evelyn chuckled softly, bringing a smile to Ronan’s tired face. Their personalities were quite contrasting, and they always ended up fighting, with his grandmother being the mediator to make them agree on one decision.

"Bring him for dinner tomorrow," Evelyn said, to which Ronan nodded. His grandfather was already grumbling about when he would let him visit the Reign mansion again, eager to see its architecture. And if he didn’t, Ronan was sure he would just come here himself.

As Ronan drove away, Evelyn sighed and went back to her room. Taking a good and long bath, she changed into her pajamas. Zevian hadn’t returned yet, and guessing they must still be discussing something, she decided to go see Elias.

She walked to his room and opened the door quietly. Slowly, she walked closer to the bed, sensing that he was fast asleep. Sitting beside him, she looked at his baby face, his light snores indicating he hadn’t been able to sleep well in the last couple of days.

Evelyn recalled how he was when he was small. That little chubby boy who would hide behind her whenever William or Sophia scolded him had now grown up to the point of sacrificing his future for her safety. The thought made her heart ache with both pride and sorrow.

Caressing his cheek, she murmured, "You grew up too fast, idiot."

Elias moved closer to her touch, the warmth making him feel relaxed. Evelyn then gently patted his head, coaxing him into a deep slumber. Once he was gently snoring, she got him properly under the blanket. Walking to the thick curtains and closing them so he could sleep as long as he wanted without being disturbed by the sun’s rays, she took one final glance before walking out of the room.

She returned to her room to find Zevian already lying on the bed. He seemed to have taken a shower and changed into his lounge set, his hair still wet and messy. He was leaning against the headrest, scrolling through his tablet to check his morning schedule.

Evelyn left her slippers and crawled up on the bed. Seeing her, Zevian placed aside his tablet, allowing her to hug him tightly. He wrapped his hand around her while she rested her head on his chest, snuggling and closing her eyes.

Kissing the top of her head, he murmured, "You did great earlier." When she looked up at him, her chin resting on his chest, he caressed her cheek and murmured, "But don’t ever put yourself in danger again."

Evelyn smiled at his serious warning. Moving closer, she pressed a chaste kiss on his lips and replied, "I was confident you wouldn’t let anything happen to me."

The reason she was so bold earlier was because she had him right beside her. Just his presence gave her the courage to negotiate with Maverick, quite sure that man wouldn’t hesitate to just get rid of her. But luckily, everything went smoothly, and she sighed in relief.

They hugged each other, the warmth comforting and relaxing their drained bodies. Evelyn hugged him tightly and murmured, "You might have to take care of two children now."

Elias had always been her responsibility, and it wouldn’t be difficult to take care of him. But it was not the same case for Zevian. Since Elias was no longer William’s son, she was sure he wouldn’t be accepted in the Wright family, and she had no intentions of pushing him there too. Along with Kiana, they needed to also take care of him, though he might pretend like he was all grown up and could make his own decisions now that he was 18.

"I won’t mind if one more joins that list," Zevian teased her, his hand slipping below her top and caressing her waist.

Evelyn’s breath hitched, her heart racing slightly. She looked up at him and asked, "Would one be enough?"

Zevian leaned closer and nuzzled her nose. With a smirk, he replied, "I would be happy to cooperate if you want to build a soccer team."

Evelyn chuckled out loud. Shaking her head, she replied, "Would you be able to take time from your always busy schedule? We might have to do loads of work for that impossible wish to come true."

Zevian smirked, his eyes twinkling with mischief. He shifted and pinned her down on the bed, his hands locking hers. Evelyn’s breath hitched, her heart thudding louder as he gazed at her.

"Let’s not waste time and work harder then," Zevian replied, before capturing her lips.
