Chapter 208: She Is Missing
[Next Morning]
Evelyn woke up to the sharp rays of the sun filtering through the curtains. The warm light gently illuminated the room, casting a soft glow over everything. She tried to reach out for Zevian but found the space beside her empty. With a scowl, she opened her eyes and realized he must have left for work early.
Turning around, she took her phone and looked at the time, which was already ticking past noon. She then scrolled through her messages and saw one from Zevian, sent around 9 AM.
"I am leaving for the office. Will be late because of a board meeting."
She sighed out loud. She had no clue how he had so much strength while she was still aching from their last night’s workout. Her entire body was screaming in protest, and she could still feel his warm touches all over her, making her blush slightly.
Getting up from the bed, she quickly rushed to the bathroom to get ready. Elias must also be up, and she was sure he must be feeling awkward in this new place.
Making sure to wear something that covered the bites on her neck, Evelyn combed her hair with her hands and walked downstairs.
The butler greeted her and informed her that everyone was in the garden. Evelyn blinked and walked out, curious about what was happening.
In the garden, under the patio, she saw her mother and mother-in-law having tea, watching Elias and Kiana play around on the wet grass. Kiana’s laughter filled the air when Elias caught her and, lifting her, swirled her in the air.
Evelyn’s heart warmed at the scene, relieved that her little girl had made sure to take care of Elias in her absence. She walked closer, and seeing her, Elias gently put Kiana down.
"Mommy!" Kiana screamed excitedly, having missed her since yesterday. She ran toward her, stumbling a bit from playing in the air earlier.
Evelyn quickly picked her up. "Careful, Kiana," she scolded gently. Kiana giggled in response and hugged her tightly. Everyone smiled as the mother-daughter duo melted in each other’s embrace.
Evelyn broke the hug and, smiling at Elias, said, "I see you have already made up with your uncle."
Kiana nodded with a smile. Turning to Elias, she creased her brows and replied, "I was pretty angry that he didn’t visit me all these months." Then, with a smile, she continued, "But he promised to take me out, and I forgave him."
"Good." Evelyn patted her head. Picking Kiana in her arms, she walked to her brother.
"Make sure you keep your promise," she murmured and ruffled Elias’s hair. Kiana also tried to imitate her mother. Raising, she reached for Elias’s hair and added, "Yes. You forget again, and I will never talk to you again."
"Yes, boss!" Elias saluted the women, their laughter bringing a smile to his face.
Evelyn held his hand and walked him to the patio. "Mom!" Smiling at her mother, she continued, "Meet my brother, Elias."
"They have already met and even had breakfast together, sweetie," Rosalind said with a smile. Elias felt quite ashamed to even stand in front of Gracia, but she pulled him into a hug, thanking him for helping Evelyn to find her. She resolved all their tension, and though Elias wasn’t as joyful as in the past, he was still less uncomfortable.
Evelyn smiled, glad to hear about it. Looking around, she asked, "Where is Avy? Bren told me she had taken a leave today."
"Oh, right!" Kiana was the one to respond. Quickly turning in her mother’s arms, she asked for her phone, "Mommy, can you call her? I sent her on a secret mission."
"And I am back from it," they heard Avery’s voice and everyone turned around. They were surprised to see her carrying a few bags, followed by the butler holding a cake box.
"Yay!" Kiana quickly got down from her mother’s arms and walked up to her aunt. She peeked through the bags and clapped her hands excitedly. "Party time!"
Avery helped her wear the cap and cool shades that the girl had specifically asked her to get. She wore one of those hats herself before walking to the group.
"What’s happening here?" Rosalind asked curiously, the others carrying the same question in their expressions.
The butler placed the cake on the table and unboxed it. The maids rushed to remove the tea tray while helping him count the candles.
"Since we missed Eli’s birthday, we will be celebrating it now," Avery declared, walking up to Elias and making him wear the cap. She headlocked him and said, "Didn’t I tell you I would make sure to celebrate your birthday every year?! So, here I am, fulfilling my promise."
Evelyn laughed, recalling those fond memories. Avery would drag her to Elias’s school every year and make him wear these caps and celebrate his birthday in front of his classmates, just like he loved when he was small.
"This is seriously embarrassing!" Elias grumbled, trying to take away the cap. But Evelyn and Avery both forced him to wear it again.
They locked him on either side and took him forward. The butler finished setting up the cake and candles.
"Blow them," Avery ordered, and Elias, sighing in defeat, followed her command. He cut the cake, and everyone sang the birthday song. Gracia and Rosalind chuckled as the kids played around, Elias looking too cute wearing that party hat.
Evelyn took out a piece and looked at Elias, "Happy belated birthday, my dear brother." Elias ate, and then he fed her too. Both hugged tightly, grateful to have found each other again.
"Now, it’s my turn," Avery murmured, taking a piece of cake. She fed him and wished, "Happy birthday, my grown-up kid," and then applied the cream to his nose.
Elias scowled and took some cream to try to put it on her, but Avery ran away. They chased each other in the garden, making everyone laugh out loud.
"Let’s catch her!" Kiana joined them, helping Elias lock Avery.
The entire atmosphere livened up again. Evelyn held onto her mother’s hand. Both shared smiles and were happy, the joy evident in their eyes.
Evelyn’s phone buzzed in her pocket. She picked it up and saw it was Damien. With a smile, she answered, "Hello?"
But her expression changed instantly, a crease forming between her brows.
Gracia observed it and asked, "What’s wrong?"
Evelyn turned to her and murmured, "Sophia has been missing since last night."
