Chapter 195: Delightful Dinner

As the call ended, Evelyn quickly dialed Rita to ask if she knew something about Elias. Though she hated to admit it, she was slightly worried that he might end up in a bigger mess because of his mother. He didn’t deserve to be punished for her crimes.

Rita answered the call with delight. She was leading a team around the Wright mansion, keeping a close eye on Sophia’s movements as per Damien’s orders. They couldn’t let her escape; even if she tried, they would drag her back to their dungeon for special treatment.

"Did Elias leave the house?" Evelyn inquired.

"He did," Rita hummed. "He took the terminal and managed to sneak away from Maverick’s men who were waiting for him."

Evelyn frowned. Why would Maverick be so eager to save Elias? The man seemed obsessed with Sophia, and he might have accepted Elias as his own, having no idea about Elias’ birth secret.

"Is someone tracking him? I need his whereabouts," Evelyn asked.

"Don’t worry, ma’am. Our men are tracking him discreetly," Rita assured her.

Evelyn sighed inwardly, feeling a small sense of relief. "Make sure to be careful and safe," she nagged before ending the call.

"Worried about him?" Avery asked as Evelyn heaved a small sigh, her expression betraying her concern.

Evelyn nodded, and Avery moved forward, hugging her best friend. "Ronan doesn’t seem like the one to use such cheap tricks. Don’t worry, Elias won’t be a part of their revenge plans," Avery tried to assure her. She was very confident about Damien but not quite sure about Ronan. After all, he had lost his stepsister, whom his mother had begged him to find and protect at all costs. Sophia wasn’t going to have an easy death, and they just hoped Elias wouldn’t get dragged into it.

Before they could continue, the butler walked over and informed them that Gracia was looking for them. Avery nodded and clinging to Evelyn’s arm, she led her back to the hall. "Let’s go."

"Oh, they are here!" Rosalind’s excited voice greeted them. The best friends quickly masked their earlier frustration with smiles and went to sit beside their mothers. Penelope worriedly looked at Avery, wondering what new problem was on their minds, but her daughter shook her head with a reassuring smile.

"Who was it?" Gracia asked Evelyn, who also shook her head.

"One of our clients wanted to change designs at the last minute. We just handled it," Evelyn lied smoothly, and Avery immediately nodded, continuing the lie.

Gracia forced a smile and nodded in response. Though she tried her best, her mood hadn’t improved since her conversation with William. She couldn’t stop feeling guilty for her daughter, for everything she had to go through because of him.

A few minutes later, the butler walked out with a proud smile and addressed the ladies, "Master and his teammates have prepared the dinner, ma’am. Shall I arrange the seating in the garden?"

Rosalind nodded with a grin. "Yes, Yusaf." Turning to the ladies, she announced, "Let’s go!"

Penelope walked out with Gracia while Avery clung to Evelyn’s arm. "Ah, it’s so hard to lie to our moms," she grumbled, almost slipping the truth a few minutes ago. Evelyn smiled and patted her head before they walked out to the garden.

The garden was beautifully arranged for a delightful dinner. The night sky was clear, with the moon casting a soft glow over the scene. Warm lamps illuminated the area, creating a cozy ambiance. A large table was set up with enough seating for everyone, and the soft music filled the air.

One by one, the men walked out, carrying their special dishes for their special people. Rosalind had strictly ordered all of them to prepare a dish each, and she couldn’t help but warm her hands as her husband walked to her side.

"I tried my best," Jonathan confessed even before showing the dish. Placing the plate in front of Rosalind, he took a seat beside her. She excitedly opened the lid only to find burnt beef.

Everyone laughed out loud, causing the older man to scratch his nose. Rosalind stared blankly at the dish before glaring at her husband.

"Are you planning to kill me and marry someone young?" Rosalind retorted, her words making everyone break into chuckles again. When Jonathan shook his head, trying to defend himself, she grumbled, "Then how the heck did you so boldly bring this to me?"

"But there are some well-cooked parts too," Jonathan murmured, taking out a knife to point at the beef.

Rosalind huffed out loud. "Eat it yourself. I ain’t gonna ruin my taste buds."

Gracia enjoyed the banter too, her smile making Evelyn sigh inwardly. And since Lucius was sitting next to Rosalind, all the ladies turned to him.

"I prepared pasta for Gracia," Lucius murmured, slightly shy. It had been a really long time since he had cooked for anyone and only hoped Gracia would like it.

"Oh, what a coincidence! Mom loves pasta!" Evelyn replied, to which Gracia nodded with a bright smile.

Lucius smiled at Gracia sitting beside him. Rosalind passed her plate too, requesting to be served as well, and Lucius gladly served both ladies.

Glaring at her husband, Rosalind took a bite of the pasta, the flavors melting in her mouth. "Hmm, it’s delicious," she commented with a grin.

Lucius then turned to Gracia, who nodded in approval. "It’s really good," she replied, bringing a smile to his face.

Next, it was Theodore’s turn. He had cooked for both his wife and daughter, preparing their favorite dishes: a creamy lobster bisque and a perfectly grilled salmon with a side of roasted vegetables. The dishes were top-notch, standing out even among the other dishes the chefs had prepared for the party. Penelope and Avery tasted the dishes, their faces lighting up with delight.

"Dad, you are the best!" Avery exclaimed, giving her dad a side hug.

Rosalind scowled at Jonathan, who was sulking as his brother-in-law, Theodore, was praised to the skies. He needed to quickly join cooking classes and do better to avoid being nagged about it every day by his wife.

Next, it was Zevian’s turn, and everyone waited eagerly. Even Evelyn couldn’t help but smile at her husband. Zevian walked out proudly, carrying a very special dish, a red velvet cheescake.

It was a beautifully decorated, with delicate swirls of cream cheese frosting and a sprinkling of edible gold dust, making it look almost too pretty to eat. The entire cake was a masterpiece, with layers of rich, velvety red cake and creamy cheesecake perfectly balanced. And everyone realized, he had prepared it before itself.

Avery’s eyes widened in delight as she looked at the cake. "He beat you all," she joked, and the men couldn’t deny it.

Rosalind clutched her chest and praised her son, "I am so glad you didn’t pick up your father’s genes in cooking." Everyone laughed out loud as Jonathan playfully argued with his wife again.

Evelyn couldn’t help but slightly tear up as she looked at the cake. It had a very intimate backstory. When they were dating, she used to bake on every possible occasion, celebrating even the smallest of his wins. Even when Zevian was feeling low, she made sure to surprise him with her cakes, brightening up his mood.

"Thank you," Evelyn murmured, turning around and hugging him tightly. She was grateful that he hadn’t forgotten any moment of their shared history, grateful to have eventually found his way back, winning all her heart all over again.

"Ah, I miss Kia," Rosalind murmured, looking toward the mansion.

"Young Master had also prepared her favorite chocolate cake for Princess, ma’am," the butler added with a smile, admiring Zevian’s thoughtfulness. Rosalind smiled warmly, reassured once again that he loved Kiana more than anyone else in the world. And with Evelyn joining him, she no longer needed to worry about that little brat’s future.

"Let’s cut the cake!" Avery excitedly clapped her hands.

Evelyn took the knife and gestured for Zevian to join her. They both sliced the cake, exactly like in the past, reviving their special moment. Everyone clapped and cheered for them. The dinner continued with laughter and banter, washing away everyone’s worries.

Once the dinner was over, everyone left for their respective rooms. Evelyn didn’t need to worry about Gracia as she was with Kiana, knowing Avery would be joining her and making sure she slept early. Finishing her nighttime skincare routine, she settled on the bed, waiting for Zevian, who was bidding off Lucius.

Evelyn’s thoughts drifted to the entire day. How Sophia had crumbled in front of them today, and she couldn’t wait for Ronan to arrive along with Damien. They were against the idea of submitting Sophia to the court, wanting to take things slowly, torturing her to the point that she would confess on her own record. Revenge was best served cold, like a slow poison.

Her thoughts were interrupted as the door clicked open. Zevian entered, and she immediately opened her arms. With a smile, Zevian walked over and lay beside her, pulling her into a tight embrace. Evelyn nestled close, feeling his hug was the best gift after such a great fight. Zevian kissed the top of her head, widening her smile.

The moment was romantic and sensual, the warmth and silence between them blissful. Evelyn murmured, "Sophia called me earlier."

"Why?" Zevian frowned.

"Elias is missing. She thought we have kidnapped him," Evelyn replied, a sigh escaping her lips.

Zevian simply hummed in response, pulling her even closer. Evelyn snuggled closer, needing to forget all those thoughts but couldn’t, especially about Elias.

"Don’t worry. He will be fine," Zevian reassured her, understanding her deepest worries. When she looked up at him, he added, "And our men are tracking him anyway. We will know about his whereabouts by sunrise."

Evelyn nodded, her heart feeling much lighter. She looked up at him before leaning forward to peck his lips. Zevian’s eyes slightly widened, but before he could respond, Evelyn pulled back with a grin. Oh, she had learned the art of torturous teasing too.

Wiping his lip with her thumb, she murmured, "The cake wasn’t this sweet earlier."

Zevian broke into an amused smile. "Really?" he murmured, and in one swift motion, he flipped over, coming on top of her. With a smirk, he replied, "Then let me make up for it," and captured her lips in a passionate kiss.
