Chapter 194: Road To Hell

Sophia felt a wave of dread wash over her, her heart pounding in her chest. Her hands trembled as she searched for Evelyn’s contact on her phone. Yes, she hated Elias now, but not to the point of harming him. Evelyn could never use him to get to her! Desperately, she dialed Evelyn’s number, but after several attempts, there was no answer. Each unanswered call only heightened her anxiety.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, Evelyn picked up.

"Where is Eli?" Sophia demanded, not bothering with pleasantries.

Evelyn frowned at the question. "How would I know?" she replied, walking away from the group of ladies. Avery smiled at the elder woman, excusing herself by saying it was a company call. Gracia’s mood didn’t look good, and they didn’t want to worsen it. She needed to celebrate this night, not drown in bitterness.

"Don’t act in front of me, Evelyn! Where is my son?!" Sophia screamed, getting up from the bed. "You guys kidnapped him! Your mafia friends were behind this, right?!" she continued her accusations.

Evelyn’s frown deepened, and even Avery was confused. Ronan and Damien were supposed to be here tomorrow. As far as she knew, they had no intentions of using Elias. Did Ronan suddenly change his mind? Or was it Damien?

"Don’t you dare touch him, Evelyn! I’m warning you!" Sophia threatened, her voice faltering with fake confidence.

Evelyn crossed her arms and smiled in response. She decided to play with this woman a little, to make sure she would cry out of worry.

"Did you think when you touched my mother, Sophia?" Her question made Sophia halt her pacing. Her heart raced at Evelyn’s next words, "You started this game, and it’s time to play fair."

"N-no, Evelyn! He... he is your brother! You... you can’t use him to get back at me!" Sophia cried out, her breath coming in ragged gasps.

Evelyn’s smirk widened. "Don’t worry, no one is going to kill him. I will keep him alive, barely breathing, just like you kept my mother all these years." Evelyn continued her play, every word a punch in Sophia’s gut. She wanted to make her feel the hell they had gone through, and Sophia was living every speckle of it.

Sophia’s face paled, her hands trembling. Yes, she regretted keeping Gracia alive. She planned to use her if things didn’t go as planned, to use her to blackmail Evelyn if she ended up becoming the heiress in the end. And now, everything was getting back at her.

"He is still a kid, Evelyn. Don’t ruin his life!" Sophia continued, biting the inside of her cheek. "I will do anything you want, just send him back to me. Please..."

Evelyn didn’t reply, her heart swelling with satisfaction. Even Avery couldn’t help but grin at the twist of events. Sophia was begging Evelyn, trying to amend things. But it was too late.

Every passing second felt suffocating for Sophia. She impatiently waited for a response, but Evelyn’s frustrating silence frightened her to the core.

"Isn’t the company what you want? I will not fight for it! Please, leave my son!" Sophia pleaded.

"You seem to be forgetting that I can win it easily, Sophia. No matter how hard you try, no one can stop me from claiming what belonged to me, to my mother." Evelyn’s reply was cold, her every word piercing through Sophia’s hope.

Sophia gritted her teeth, her grip on the phone tightening in anger. Taking a deep breath, she asked, "Then what do you want me to do?"

Evelyn exchanged a smirk with Avery. Pausing for a moment, she replied, "Confess everything to your husband. From how you brought Annabelle to the way you brutally killed her." Holding back her emotions, Evelyn added in a cold but determined voice, "Tell him how all these years you held my mom as your captive to use against him one day. Tell him how your men tortured her, how you enjoyed seeing her go mad."

Sophia’s eyes widened at her demands. She was practically asking her to kill herself, as William wouldn’t let her live the next second she told him everything.

"What? You can’t do it?" Evelyn asked, her mocking voice making Sophia bite her nails. With a sigh, Evelyn added in a low tone, "Then forget about your son."

"Seems like your life is more precious than your son’s," Evelyn added the final blow, leaving Sophia on the edge.

Nothing was more important than her son, and even after confessing, she would use Elias to beg for forgiveness. Or better, put everything on Maverick, playing out an act that he had been threatening her all these years.

"Al... alright!" Sophia finally agreed, losing in front of her for the second time tonight already. "I will confess everything right away. Make sure to bring Elias with you."

Sophia burned with shame and fury at her loss in front of Evelyn. She swore to herself that she would not let this slide easily, not after dragging Elias into this and using him.

There was a brief second of silence before Evelyn burst into loud laughter. Her voice made Sophia frown, her face red with frustration. Her son’s life was in danger, and this wicked woman was enjoying it. She couldn’t help but think of all the times Evelyn was in her face, and she had secretly enjoyed it. Karma was indeed betraying her side.

"I never thought it would be this easy to fool you, Sophia."

"Wh... what do you mean, Evelyn?" Sophia burst out, barely hiding her emotions.

"I have no idea where your son is," Evelyn replied with a snicker. With a steady voice, she added, "And I definitely won’t care to help you find him."

Sophia’s eyes widened in shock, her ears fuming with fury. So she had been acting all this time? Pretending to be holding Elias captive to mentally torture her? This bitch! Sophia gritted her teeth, the urge to choke Evelyn to death growing within her.

"You! How could you joke at a time like this, Evelyn? He was your brother!"

"Yes, exactly! He was, but not anymore, Sophia." Evelyn snapped back, her words making Sophia grit her teeth. "Better find him before it’s too late."

"And also worry about what might happen to you in the coming days. Trust me, Ronan has so many surprises planned for you before sending you to hell."

Sophia felt a chill down her spine, her anxiety worsening to new heights. Death seemed inevitable, but what came before it made her worry more. She was scared, her body trembling at the thought of what awaited her.
