Chapter 151: Cheater!

Later that night, Kiana seemed the happiest, squealing and running to the kitchen to check if dinner was ready. It had been so long since she’d eaten with her mommy, and the thought of hearing fairytales again and hugging her before falling asleep together excited her very much.

Evelyn smiled as she observed Kiana from the dining room. Lucius and Damien had left early, with Yael, Lucius’ son, waiting for them for dinner at home. Meanwhile, Avery still had things to handle at her company. With Grace’s new scandal, her company was losing stocks and clients, which meant she needed to work overnight for a few days.

Evelyn had requested Ronan and Carson to stay for dinner, but they refused, and Zevian didn’t have the heart to insist. He happily escorted them, leaving just the trio to have their happy family moment.

"Mommy! Mommy!" Kiana ran back to the dining hall. Evelyn picked her up and made her sit on her lap, bringing a huge smile to her daughter’s face. "Agatha said dinner will be ready soon. Let’s wait for a while."

Evelyn nodded in response. Adjusting her pigtails, she asked, "Are you not eating well, Kia?" Kiana seemed to have lost a little weight, and though Evelyn didn’t doubt Rosalind’s care, she knew the trickster must have been eating as per her wishes.

"It didn’t taste good without you," Kiana replied with a pout. Moving close, she hugged her mommy tightly, putting on an act, though she doubted it would fool her.

"Ah, how convenient." Evelyn smiled, shaking her head. "Now that I’m back, even the veggies might taste good, right? We’ll have lots of salad from tomorrow," she added, causing Kiana’s eyes to widen in horror.

"No veggies, please!" Kiana grumbled, pouting up at her mommy. When Evelyn shook her head, the little girl tried to negotiate. "Okay. But no carrots, please! I’ll eat everything else. Pinky promise!"

"But carrots are good for your health."

"But they taste yucky," Kiana argued, huffing and shaking her head. She recalled the taste and shivered lightly. "I will have only one? Okiee?" Kiana asked, making Evelyn smile.

Evelyn realized how much she had missed this little, cute bear. Because of the time difference, they barely managed to talk daily, and she was afraid to stir emotions in her. If Kiana missed her more, she was sure the little bear would have pulled stunts to fly over to her.

"Daddy and I got you some snacks from Motendoro. You can share them with your friends at school," Evelyn said with a smile, her words making Kiana’s eyes brighten in excitement.

"Snacks?" When Evelyn nodded in confirmation, Kiana hugged her tightly. "Yay! Thank you, Mommy! You’re the best!" Evelyn smiled warmly and hugged Kiana back, but the little devil realized something. She frowned in confusion and broke the hug, trying to recall what her mommy had just mentioned.

"You and Daddy?" Kiana asked, her brows creased in confusion. Looking up, she continued, "Did he sneakily come to see you?!"

Evelyn bit her tongue, realizing her mistake, and her silence caused Kiana to squint her eyes, glaring in suspicion.

"He had some work and flew..."

"So he went to see you?! Without telling me?!" Kiana grumbled, cutting off Evelyn. Her little face puffed with annoyance, and she crossed her arms against her chest. "Hmph! Cheater, cheater I’ll put his pants on fire!" the angry bird added, huffing loudly.

"Who cheated you?" Zevian, who had just entered, asked in confusion. He smiled at his wife and daughter, but it vanished when Evelyn apologized quietly.

"You! You’re the cheater!" Kiana replied, pointing her finger at Zevian. When he frowned, she continued, "I knew why Aunt Avy put me to sleep early that night! She’s a cheater too!"

Zevian realized what must have happened and smiled, much to Kiana’s displeasure. Well, she had always irked him, so it served her right to get jealous and angry for once. He thought, ignoring her demand for an apology, and sat beside Evelyn.

"Say sorry before she puts your pants on fire," Evelyn murmured to her husband. Kiana was capable of doing it if someone got on her nerves. She was his daughter, after all.

"I dare her to try it," Zevian replied, joking with her. But his words caused Kiana’s face to redden in anger, and she gritted her teeth. Sure! He’d see what she could do soon!

"You will be sleeping in the guest room for the next 10 days," Kiana declared, her words surprising her parents. While Evelyn pressed her lips, holding back a snicker, Zevian’s smile vanished, replaced by a frown.

"What?!" he frowned, turning at his daughter.

"You are not allowed to enter our room until I allow," Kiana replied in a cold tone. She glared at her father before turning away, looking straight ahead. "If you don’t like it, you’re free to go and sleep on the streets. We don’t care!" she added, causing Evelyn to burst into laughter.

"No, I won’t!" Zevian replied, pulling another fight with his daughter over Evelyn.

"All right! Let’s fight later," Evelyn cut them off, seeing Agatha walk toward the table with the other maids. With a smile, she coaxed the little girl in her arms, "Shall I feed you, baby?"

Kiana liked the idea very much, her anger washing away. With a bright smile, she nodded, "Yes, Mommy!"

Zevian and Kiana kept glaring at each other throughout dinner. Luckily, when they were done, Zevian received a call, forcing him to go to his study. Seeing her mommy taking a shower, Kiana quickly pushed a table and stepped on it to lock the room door. She looked around, and pushing another chair to block the door, the little girl dusted her hands and grinned in victory.

"Useless Daddy won’t be able to get in!" she giggled, placing her hands proudly on her waist.

Evelyn, who had just walked out of the room, looked at the entrance, her eyes widening in surprise. She burst into laughter seeing the chairs guarding the door, before smiling at Kiana, who had turned around at her voice.

"Mommy!!" Kiana ran to Evelyn. Hugging her legs, she grinned, "It’s story time!"

"Yes, let’s go." Evelyn nodded with a smile. Picking her up, she walked over to the bed and laid her on the soft mattress. Glancing at the door one last time and pitying her poor husband, she picked up a book from the drawer.

"I missed you so much!" Kiana confessed with a pout. Nuzzling closer, she clung to Evelyn tightly, wrapping her little leg around her stomach.

Evelyn hugged Kiana tightly and replied, "I missed you too, baby." She kissed the top of her head, and Kiana moved closer to peck her cheek.

"Hehe, let’s start." Kiana happily exclaimed, eager to hear new stories. Her grandmother told her stories every night too, but her mommy made them sound even more exciting, taking her to dreamy worlds.

"Yes. Let’s finish it quickly." Evelyn replied with a smile. Flipping through pages, she added, "You need to go to school tomorrow."

The mention of school faltered Kiana’s smile, replaced by a kind of fear. "Hmm." She nodded, clutching onto Evelyn’s top. There was a problem at school, and she wasn’t sure if she needed to tell her mommy. She was already getting bullied by bad guys, and the little girl didn’t wish to burden her more.
