Chapter 35: Her pastime

When Aryana went back to her workstation she was surprised to see Julia waiting for her.

"Where have you been. It’s only your first day and you are already slacking off." Julia’s gaze was filled with hostility.

"The CEO called me Miss Lopez. I came from his office." Aryana replied calmly.

Julia’s right eyebrow arched upwards. She clenched her fists.

"What did you talk about?" Julia tried to mask the anger in her voice but Aryana was still able to sense it.

"It is just a few reminders. Er... Mr. Lee told me about the party for new hires this Friday." She was about to call Erik by his name but corrected herself in time.

’I should be wary of her. Looks like she is a difficult person to deal with.’ Aryana thought.

"I see. Continue with your work then." She threw Aryana a cold glance before turning away.

’So she was the reason why my lunch date with Erik ended abruptly.’ She gritted her teeth.

"Uhmmm. Why do I sense that Julia doesn’t like you?" Elaine who was standing beside her said softly as she was afraid that someone will hear her.

Aryana looked around. "Maybe she feels threatened by me." She lowered her voice.

"Yeah... right." Elaine chuckled.

"By the way, have you attended the new hires’ welcome party? There should be one last month right?" Aryana changed the subject.

"There was none last month. I’ll join this Friday’s party. You already know that new hires should wear a cocktail dress right? " Elaine said excitedly.

"Really? Can’t we wear casual?" Aryana asked frowning.

"They said that the party is for us so we should dress to kill." The petite girl laughed lightly.

"Hmmm" Aryana just hummed before shifting her focus back to her laptop.

Aryana spent the rest of the day studying the training curriculum of the mass and affluent market segment. She and Elaine have barely four days to work on the proposal.

When it was time to clock off, she and Elaine headed towards the elevator together. Someone was holding the elevator door open for them from the inside. The two ladies hurried their steps.

"Boss Jax, thank you," Elaine uttered.

The elevator was jam-packed as usual. Elaine moved a little bit to the right leaving the spot beside Jax empty. Aryana hesitated for a while before stepping inside. She murmured a polite "thanks" to Jax.

"You’re welcome!" He smiled gently at her.

When the elevator reached the ground, Aryana bade Elaine goodbye. They will be walking in opposite directions.

"I can send you off. My car is parked in the basement." Jax was walking beside her.

Aryana stopped walking and regarded Jax.

"It is okay. My apartment is just a ten minutes walk from here."

"I can walk you to your apartment then." Jax persisted.

Aryana frowned.

"Mr. Cuenca, I have a date so I am afraid that’s not possible," Aryana said impatiently.

"Okay then. I will just walk you home next time." Jax with a defeated look on his face finally said.

Aryana heaved a sigh of relief when Jax turned around and headed for the elevator to the basement.

She just exited the building when a woman in her mid-twenties in blue ripped jeans and a black t-shirt started to walk beside her.

"Hi, my name is Amy Perez and I am a talent manager."

Aryana continued to walk, her strides faster and bigger.

"I am following your vlogs and have also seen a few photos of the endorsements you made for Paradise Island. You have great potential and I can help you unleash your full potential." Amy panted. Her height was just 155 centimeters and her legs were shorter so she has to jog to keep up with Aryana’s phase.

Aryana slowed down her steps.

"I have a contract with Gaeya Corporation." She said.

"I know, but it is a nonexclusive contract."

Aryana looked sideways in surprise.

"How did you know?" She asked curiously.

"I have my ways," Amy said in a relaxed manner. "Look! There is a cafe over there why don’t we continue our conversation over a cup of coffee."

Aryana hesitated then walked towards the cafe with the petite girl.

Amy ordered a cappuccino for both of them.

"Amy Perez right?" Aryana extended her hand for a handshake.

"Modeling and vlogging are just my pastime. I don’t like to be constrained or bound by them." Aryana’s brutal frankness shocked Amy.

"You don’t like to become famous?"

Aryana shook her head. "I just want a happy and carefree life. No scandals." Aryana savored the aroma of the coffee that the waiter placed in front of her before lifting it to her mouth.

Amy was silent for a while.

"Alright. If that is the case, I’ll carefully select resources for you." Amy was careful with her words. She did not like to say the wrong words and chase Aryana away.

"How will you be compensated?" She asked while sipping her cappuccino.

"I’ll take a percentage of your talent fee. I’ll prepare a contact and send it to your email." Amy said as she started drinking her coffee

They had a pleasant conversation. After finishing their coffee, they exchanged contact numbers before parting.

She has just returned home when her cell phone chimed. She received a copy of the contract from Amy. The contract was long and tiring to read. She remembered Erik told her once that she can come to him for help regarding any matter. Of course, Aryana cannot bother Erik directly so she forwarded the email to Marlon.

She was contemplating what to cook for dinner when her doorbell buzzed.

She went to the door, looked through the peephole, and was surprised to see that it was Erik. She opened the door hurriedly.

"Erik, what are you doing here?" She asked looking at Erik who was still wearing the same suit he had during the day.

Erik went inside and inspected her apartment. It was small but tidy and clean. It was a fully furnished one-bedroom unit with a small kitchen. The style was minimalist. This is one of Gaeya’s low-end residential buildings targeting young office workers.

He went to the kitchen and saw that Aryana was preparing to cook dinner. Aryana followed him silently.

He looked at Aryana.

"There is a famous restaurant that recently opened nearby. Let’s have dinner there."

Aryana happily obliged. Who does not want a free meal?
