Chapter 36: Welcome Party

Soon it was Friday. Aryana and Elaine presented their proposal for a training module focusing on building self-confidence. The duo’s idea was for the trainees to do a video blog of the property that they intended to sell and do a role play where fellow trainees get to act as a different types of customers.

"And how would the vlogging help them build confidence?" Julia smirked. "Everyone can do a vlog now and there are so many shameless people who post trash on the internet. Shamelessness is different from confidence."

"Well aren’t the most successful sales agents, are shameless and the most thick-skinned? They are also the most persistent." Aryana retorted.

Everyone in the room was speechless including Erik.

Elaine elbowed Aryana.

"He he he. I am just kidding."

Julia glared at her.

"When people do a vlog then they get to see how they looked like and sound like. They get a chance to see their mistakes and to improve them. We can also easily weed out those who are not really qualified and save us time and effort on further training them." Aryana continued confidently.

"This does not require a lot of investment so we can do a pilot for this. Good job Aryana and Elaine. The meeting is over." Erik glanced at Aryana before leaving the conference room.

"I didn’t know how you sold your trash idea to Erik. You must have used a special way right?" Julia intentionally spoke loudly for others to hear.

"Miss Lopez, you have to speak clearly and not insinuate, otherwise people will misunderstand. You are talking about the CEO’s reputation here. Are you saying that the CEO’s decision is influenced by currying favors?" Aryana said politely but her words have hidden meaning.

Elaine gasped. She didn’t know Aryana has a sharp tongue.

Jax who was also in the room looked at Aryana interestingly. ’What a brave girl.’

"You insolent bitch! It is just your first week and you are showing disrespect to your superior" Julia shouted. "Get out!"

Elaine quickly pulled Aryana out of the room.

"Did I go overboard? Was I too disrespectful?" Aryana thought she didn’t do anything bad.

"You are a bit tactless. Miss Lopez after all is the director. I am afraid she will make things difficult for us." Elaine said truthfully.

"Sigh. I’ll try to control my tongue next time. I guess I have to apologize to Miss Lopez."

"It’s almost five o clock. Let’s go change." Elaine tried to change the topic so Aryana will not feel bad anymore.

Aryana did not want to bring too much attention to herself so she wore a simple chiffon halter-neck burgundy dress. The hem of the front of the dress was above her knee while the back part was a little bit longer. A wide belt of the same color and material as the dress accentuated her small waistline. She matched it with silver dangling earrings, a silver bangle, and a silver stiletto with a thin strap hugging her ankle.

She curled her hair lightly and just let it down then she applied a little makeup and red lipstick.

Elaine was awe-struck. ’Aryana is so pretty. A simple looking dress makes her beauty stand out even more. My fancy looking cocktail dress becomes plain alongside her.’

"You’re so beautiful, Aryana. You look very elegant. I bet you will gain a lot of admirers later. I’m envious of you." She said without malice.

"You are beautiful too, The black cocktail dress suits you well." She paused and studied Elaine’s dress. It was an off-shoulder long gown with a high slit accentuated with silver sequins.

"We complement each other. You are showing your collarbone while I am showing my legs." Aryana joked.

Aryana took her phone from her silver purse. She intended to book a car.

"No need for that. Jax said we can go in his car." Elaine said while putting her makeup kit inside her purse and followed Aryana out of the lady’s room.

Elaine was average looking but she was charming and has a beautiful smile. Her bubbly personality made her stand up in a crowd.

"Elaine, to be honest, I don’t like to be indebted to Jax so let’s just take a cab," Aryana said.

"But..."

"Hey ladies, you are ready. Come, I’ll lead you to the car park." Jax smiling widely approached them. He wanted to walk beside Aryana but Aryana walked on Elaine’s left side. She looked unhappy. She wanted to decline but did not want to be impolite so she went along with Jax and Elaine.

They arrived at the hotel in A silver Lexus luxury car. Aryana insisted on sitting at the back seat and pushed Elaine to sit in the passenger seat. Jax was not happy about it but there was nothing he can do.

Jax who was wearing a black suit got out from the driver’s side, walked around, and opened the door for Aryana. He tossed the car key to the hotel attendant who caught it while holding the car open for Elaine.

The venue was on the second floor. The trio decided to take the grand staircase to go to the ballroom.

"Don’t you think it is too lavish for just a welcome party for the new hires?" Aryana asked both Elaine and Jax. "I thought it will just be in a karaoke bar."

"There is also the awarding of employees who did an extraordinary performance during the last quarter," Jax explained

Aryana looked around. She did not find Erik or Marlon despite the fact that the ballroom was becoming crowded as more and more people poured in.

Aryana and Elaine started interacting with some of their colleagues when there was a commotion at the main entrance of the ballroom.

When Aryana looked back she saw a sexy woman dressed in an alluring off-shoulder red mermaid gown that perfectly hugged her body. A ruby pendant was nestled between her partially exposed cleavage. Her hair was done in a net updo with a few strands that were slightly curled and left dangling at both sides of her face. Even she as a woman took a second look to admire the beautiful Julia Lopez whose hand was hooked around Erik’s elbow.

’What a beautiful couple.’ She sighed before looking away.

"They looked like a match made in heaven. Don’t they?" Elaine whispered to her.

Aryana agreed silently and looked at Elaine.

"Julia is one of the outstanding employee awardees this quarter. She is also the daughter of one of the major shareholders of the company." A lady standing beside them whom she remembered as Anji said.

Aryana was soon hearing murmurs from the crowd.

"I heard that they would be engaged soon."

"How can they be, we did not hear that our CEO has a girlfriend."

"Don’t be naive. Of course, it is a political marriage."

Aryana did not know why but she felt a sudden pang in her heart. It seemed that someone used a pin to prick it.
