Chapter 34: He is jealous

Inside the VIP room, a storm was brewing. Erik was seated directly across the table where Aryana was seated. He witnessed how Jax held Aryana’s hand and kissed it. He also saw how Jax flirted with Aryana and from his line of sight, Aryana seemed to be entertaining him.

"What’s wrong Erik? Are you angry because the food is not yet been served?" Julia was surprised to see the scowl on Erik’s face.

"It’s nothing. I am just a bit hungry." He said trying to focus his attention on Julia. "Did you make the revision to the report?" He was back to his bossy self once again.

"Erik, can we not discuss work for now? Let’s enjoy our lunch first." Julia tried to sound coquettish.

"This is a business lunch Julia so we should be discussing work." Erik snapped back at her.

"Okay, Boss. As you wish." She sounded disappointed.

’I’ll take this opportunity to get close to you then.’ She stood up and moved her chair a little closer to Erik and showed him her tablet. She intentionally leaned forward and she was pretty sure that if Erik looked down, he will see her exposed cleavage.

She has been explaining for some time now but Erik was unresponsive. When she looked up, she saw Erik looking straight ahead and when she followed his line of sight, she saw Aryana eating with Jax and Elaine. She narrowed her eyes and clenched her fists.

"What do you think Erik? Is this revision fine?" She tried to catch Erik’s attention by putting her hand on his arm.

Erik’s gaze turned cold as he stared at the hand holding him. Julia retracted her hand. She was about to say something when the waiter came in with their order.

"Thank you Boss Jax for the meal. It was very delicious." Elaine said while rubbing her stomach with her hands.

Aryana also politely thanked Jax. "Thank you, Boss Jax. We are full."

"Just call me Jax. I am not a boss. But if you want me to be your boss, I am happy to oblige."

After paying the bill, the three of them left the table and headed for the elevator. Aryana cannot help herself but glance at the closed door of the VIP room. If the room was not tinted, she could have locked her gaze with Erik because Erik was also staring at her at that very instant.

At first, Julia thought that Erik was looking at her but after just a second, she realized his gaze was passed behind her. She pursed her lips. She was jealous of Aryana.

"Erik, how did you know Aryana Jones?"

Erik was about to shove a piece of steak into his mouth when his hand froze mid-air but it was only for a moment.

"It’s none of your business Julia. But make sure she is taken care of and she is not bullied."

"Of course." She said with a gentle smile, but she was seething inside.

’Who is that woman? But no matter who you are, I will not allow you to steal Erik from me. Over my dead body.’ She was fuming inside but smiled sweetly at the man sitting opposite her.

Erik sent a message to Marlon before tapping his fingers on the table. Julia knew that he was getting impatient.

"Would you like to have coffee?"

"No need. I have a meeting at one pm. He glanced at his watch.

Julia had no choice but to finish her meal in a hurry as Erik did not attempt to hide his impatience.

As soon as she was done, Erik stood and went out of the VIP room. Julia scrambled and follow him to the elevator. When the elevator stopped at his floor, he hurried out without throwing a glance at her.

Julia gritted her teeth and clenched her fist.

"Aryana Jones. You went up against the wrong person. Just wait and see!"

Arayana was already waiting at Erik’s office when he arrived. The moment Marlon texted her, she freshened up quickly and went up to his office.

"You had your lunch already?" Erik pretended not to know about the lunch at the penthouse.

"Yes. A colleague invited me to lunch at the Penthouse" Aryana said truthfully.

"And who is that colleague?"

Aryana’s eyebrows furrowed. ’Why is he asking me this kind of thing? Did he call me just to ask about my lunch date?’

"It was Elaine and Jax Cuenca."

Erik looked gloomy when he recalled Jax kissing Aryana’s hand and she seemed to enjoy her lunch with him.

"Jax Cuenca!" He repeated. "Be careful around him. He is a known playboy and has dated a lot of women."

"Thank you for your reminder. Don’t worry I don’t like him."

Erik breathed a sigh of relief but his face remained stoic as ever. He stood and walked towards the floor-to-ceiling glass window.

"Don’t hesitate to let me know if someone bullies you."

"Got it." She said slightly nodding. She started to fidget and was increasingly getting uncomfortable.

Erik looked at her with a frown. Normally she was very chatty but today, her answers were very brief.

"By the way, there is a celebration for new joiners this Friday. It’s a welcoming party for new hires this month." He was now standing in front of her and he tucked a stray strand of her hair behind her ear.

Aryana felt a sudden gush of blood rushing to her face. She looked down to hide it from him.

Erik smiled very briefly. He went behind his desk and sat back on his chair

"That’s all. You may leave now."

Aryana hummed and hurried out of the room.

’That was it?’ She was confused why she was called for such a trivial matter.

"Hey Yana, what did Boss tell you?" Marlon blocked her way to the elevator.

Aryana scratched her head.

"Actually he just told me to be wary of Jax Cuenca and reminded me of the Welcome Party for new hires this Friday."

Marlon’s mouth formed a letter O. "That’s it?" He looked like a dummy.

"Yeah... that’s just it." Even Aryan was at a loss of what to make out of her brief meeting with Erik.
