Chapter 244: Keep The Child

Jax held Cassie’s chin with his hand and forced her to look at him. His face was very close to hers.

Cassie could smell his subtle powdery scent of sweet, woody, and earthy aroma.

She hated herself for liking Jax’s scent. No, she did not just like it but she was addicted to it.

"Remember this. I will not allow you to abort the baby. No matter what, you have to keep the child and give birth to him or her." His eyes were fierce and his voice was menacing.

Cassie shivered. It was the first time he saw Jax so angry.

"Let go. You are hurting me." She forced herself to look into the man’s deep brown eyes.

"So you feel the pain? I assure you, this is nothing compared to the pain if you are going to hurt the child in your belly.

Cassie sneered. She moved her face to the left to free herself from his clutches.

Jax loosened his grip on Cassie’s chin. He caressed the skin that reddened because of his grip.

Cassie trembled slightly from the gentle touch. It was completely different from the previous painful grasp.

"I don’t want to give birth to a bastard. Didn’t you suffer enough humiliation and injustice for being one?"

Jax looked at Cassie deeply. She and him are the same. Their mothers were both mistresses. He closed his eyes briefly as scenes of the bullying he suffered from his half-sisters and his cousins flashed before his mind. He was lucky because his father’s legal wife failed to give birth to a son, so his father had no choice but to hand over to him the Lee banks.

Of course, he didn’t want his child to experience the same thing.

"Look at us. Aren’t we both successful and accepted by our family?" Jax asked.

"It is only because I worked hard and I sucked up to my grandparents," Cassie muttered. "Even if they accepted me, I still could not forget the humiliation I suffered because of being an illegitimate child."

"Then, let us not let our child become illegitimate. It is simple." Jax said casually.

Cassie’s eyes widened. What did he mean by his word?

"What do you mean?"

Jax laughed.

"It is simple, Sweetie. To make our child legitimate, then let us get married." The words flowed out of Jax’s mouth very naturally.

"Are you crazy? You know that I only love Erik. Besides, you look like you are not the marrying type."

Jax placed his hand over his chest. He acted like her words hurt him.

"I didn’t know you looked down on me so much. Ever since I became the CEO of the Lee Banks, I had stopped my wayward ways. I am very professional."

"I’m sorry. But I don’t love you. How can we get married?"

"If you don’t marry me, then who do you want to marry? Erik? You know that he is already married and will never take a second glance at you. Besides, we already did it several times. You are even pregnant with my child and still dreaming about marrying Erik?" Jax laughed sarcastically.

"You just saw that he already has a child. Even if it is not Aryana, it can never be you." He said without regard to Cassie’s feelings.

Cassie’s emotions were in turmoil. She did not want to believe that the baby in Erik’s post was his. Maybe it was a child of his friend.

But she knew everyone in Erik’s circle. His three close friends were all not married yet. Could it be a child of his relatives? It must be a relative. Cassie convinced herself.

Jax was studying Cassie. Looking at her changing expression, he guessed what was on her mind. He took his cell phone and shoved it to Cassie’s face.

"This is the Lee Family’s group chat. Erik has posted another photo of the baby and her mother."

Cassie took Jax’s cell phone. The photo was a selfie taken by Erik. Her eyes lingered on the caption that said. "Proud daddy to a bouncing 3.6 kilograms Baby Erika." Her eyes shifted to the face of a woman with short hair. She did not look like a woman who had just given birth with the way she smiled.

Cassie’s heart skipped a beat.

"Is it Aryana? How can she .. be ... alive?" Cassie stammered.

Jax frowned. "Did you have something to do with her kidnapping?"

"Of course not. I might have framed Erik that night but I don’t know about the kidnapping. Besides, didn’t Erik already destroy the syndicate?"

Jax’s lips twitched. He remembered how Erik, like a madman destroyed his maternal grandfather’s work in Central District. He was almost implicated. He was thankful that his Grandpa was disappointed with him and sent his other grandson to take the leadership of the Black Mamba in Central District from him. His grandpa’s decision saved his life and he had a clean break from the syndicate.

It was his cousin who ordered Aryana to be kidnapped. She was the scapegoat that his cousin found because he still failed to turn around the syndicate’s worsening situation in Central District.

Jax was also not aware of his cousin’s plan. He only knew when Grandpa Lee announced it during the Lee family gathering.

Thud!

Jax was brought back from his reverie when he heard an object fall to the tiled floor. It was his cellphone. He looked at Cassie who was in a daze.

"She was still alive and had given birth to Erik’s child. How can she be lucky? Why did she not die? Why did she not die?" Cassie muttered under her breath. Tears started to trickle from her mournful eyes.

Somehow, Jax pitied Cassie. He, himself, was attracted to Aryana but he has long accepted the fact that Aryana belonged to Erik and there is nothing he can do about it.

Cassie was still into Erik. She hasn’t let go of the past yet.

For some reason, Jax’s heart ached for Cassie. He used his thumb to gingerly wipe the tears that smeared her face. Then he bent down to capture her lips. It was an intense kiss that left Cassie breathless.

Jax released her lips only to take it back again. This time, he supported her head with his hand as he deepened the kiss.

Cassie fought at first, but Jax’s demanding kiss defeated her and she started to respond passionately.

When she wanted more, Jax’s lips left hers. He chuckled as his finger traced the outline of her swollen lips.

"Your body is more honest than you Sweetie."
