Chapter 217: You Failed To Protect Her

Marlon who just arrived from buying takeout, hurried to where Erik was and helped him up.

"Bro, what are you doing? Let’s go and sit over there." Marlon helped Erik to sit down. He sized up Erik and he sighed. This man of iron whom he thought cannot be shaken by anything has one fatal weakness, Aryana!

Erik was in a daze so Marlon just let him be.

"What happened to him?" Marlon asked Mu Chen who was snorting at the side.

"I showed him this." He opened his gallery and passed his cell phone to Marlon.

Marlon took it casually but as he swiped down with his thumb, his facial expression turned uglier and uglier.

Without him noticing it, his eyes reddened. Aryana was critically injured. It was a miracle that she survived!

Marlon took out the food boxes from the shopping bag. He handed a food box to the nanny, and to Mu Chen.

"Erik, you have to eat. We did not have our lunch after all."

Erik just looked at the food box shoved in front of him. "I am not hungry."

Marlon sighed. "Now that you found Aryana, you have to take care of your body. If your stomach problem acted up and Aryana needs you, how can you help her?"

Marlon thought Erik will continue to be stubborn. To his surprise, he took the food box and eat it. Marlon smirked. He now knew how to blackmail Erik.

It has been an hour and the doctor has not come out of the operating room. Erik could not sit still. He was pacing back and forth while Marlon and Mu Chen watched him.

An old man came out of the elevator and his cane created a tap tap sound as it hit the tiled floor of the corridor.

Erik did not pay attention to anything else. His focus was on the door of the emergency room. He was anxious. He did not notice that the tapping sound of the cane hitting the floor stopped and the old man was standing right in front of him.

"So, you are the bastard who was unable to protect my granddaughter?" Mu Heng asked with a smirk.

Erik was startled. He looked at the old man in front of him and realization hit him.

"Mr. Mu, it is you! Are you talking about my wife?" Erik was confused.

"I am talking about my granddaughter Mu Lan. What did you do to her? Why was she in the emergency room?"

Erik’s mind was a mess. His brain seemed to have been frozen. "You are Mu Lingyun?" Erik asked in a whisper. Everything started to fall into pieces. He now understands why Mu Chen referred to Aryana as his ’sister’.

Erik thought of the photos of Aryana from earlier. He was thankful to this old man. If not for him then Aryana could have really died.

Mu Heng was silent for a long time before he find his voice. "So, she told you about Mu Lingyun?"

"Yes. She mentioned about wanting to look for her grandfather whom she knew as Mu Lingyun when she visited last time. And you met her at the banquet."

Mu Heng’s eyes flickered. So his granddaughter tried to look for him.

"By the way, thank you for saving her. I am indebted to you." Erik bowed slightly to show his sincerity.

"I owe her a lot. I wronged her grandmother and mother. Maybe she was sent to that island so I can repay the debts I owed them."

Erik thought how strange fate was. Was it really a coincidence that Aryana was washed ashore in Mu Heng’s island?

The door of the emergency room opened and the doctor came out.

Erik rushed to him followed by Mu Heng and Mu Chen.

"Doctor, how is my wife?" He asked anxiously.

The doctor looked at him briefly before shifting his gaze to Mu Heng.

"The patient was agitated. With her current state, it is not good for her to be agitated as it might trigger a miscarriage."

Mu Heng pursed his lips as he glared at Erik. He was definitely the reason why Mu Lan was agitated.

"Why was she agitated? She was okay in the last few months." Mu Heng still asked the doctor.

"Looks like she encountered something that triggered her memory." the doctor looked at Erik. "She cannot be agitated anymore."

Erik was angry. "What are you trying to say? I should not show my face to my wife?"

The doctor stepped back. He did not expect Erik to have such a big reaction.

"You are forcing her to remember the memory she lost. It is causing a lot of pain. It is fine if she is not pregnant but unfortunately, she is."

"I am not forcing her." Erik retorted.

"Her subconscious mind is trying to remember the memories she lost but it is taking a toll on her body which hasn’t fully recovered. Please consider this carefully."

Erik slumped on the chair beside Marlon. He was lost on what to do. He wanted to be with Aryana but he was also afraid that the child in her stomach might be harmed the moment she is triggered.

Aryana was wheeled out of the emergency room and transferred to a VIP ward. Erik wore a white doctor’s coat and a mask then he followed Aryana’s attending doctor, Mu Heng and Mu Chen to the ward.

"Grandpa, what happened to me?" Aryana asked weakly.

Erik has to restrain himself not to hold her in his arms.

"You had a headache and fainted. Don’t try to force yourself to remember things, okay?"

Aryana nodded. "How is the baby?"

"The baby is fine. We will take you later to have an ultrasound."

Aryana placed both of her hands on her baby bump and she giggled.

"What’s wrong Sis?" Mu Chen asked anxiously.

"The baby kicked. She seemed excited and making a fuss inside."

"Can I feel it?" Mu Chen asked excitedly.

Aryana took his hand and placed it on the part of her stomach where the baby kicked. Mu Chen laughed. "I felt it. She is a strong kicker."

Erik’s eyes fluttered. He clenched his fists and curbed the urge to pull Mu Chen from the side of the bed. That was his baby and yet another man was having the pleasure of feeling her kicks in front of him and he can do nothing about it. How painful could that be?
